Share Your Favorite Memories of George

T.R. Knight's impending departure from Grey's Anatomy may not have come as a huge surprise to some fans, but it has caused many of us sadness and confusion. Whether you love him or hate him, T.R. left an indelible mark on Grey's Anatomy as Dr. George O'Malley.

When a cast member leaves the series, it is forever altered - even more so in the case of an original, fundamental part of the fabric we've come to call Seattle Grace.

So many bungled decisions, so many funny comments, so many bad haircuts. It's gonna be hard to say goodbye to George (even if the writers basically already have).

Will Grey's Anatomy be worse off when T.R. Knight bows out (presumably this winter)? How should his character be written off the series? What will you miss most about George? What were some of your favorite episodes and scenes involving him?

We invite you to share your opinions, impressions and memories below. Here's a little photo gallery of George we put together. Click to enlarge ...

Grey's Anatomy Spoilers, News & Rumors

Yesterday, Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly broke the news of T.R. Knight's impending departure from Grey's Anatomy. Today, he's got more information on that huge piece of news, additional Grey's Anatomy spoilers, rumors and bad baseball metaphors ...

Q: Okay, what's the real story behind T.R. Knight's probable exit?

A: Another Grey's Anatomy mole just checked in, so let's ask him... "He's an actor. He wants to act. It's that simple." In other words, the 16 minutes of screen time George O'Malley has had this season? Not cutting it.

Q: I'm devastated about T.R. Knight's Grey's Anatomy departure. Is there any chance that he'll change his mind?

A: Not unless ABC forces him to, but that's unlikely. My guess is an exit agreement will be brokered before the holidays and Knight will make his final appearance around mid-season.

T.R. Knight: What

Q: I know you can't tell us who the "fired actor" blind item is about, but can you tell us who it's not about? Please tell me it's not McDreamy himself, Patrick Dempsey.

A: It's not Patrick Dempsey. And that was your Last. Clue. Ever. At least until said actor-actress officially gets the hook, at which point all will be revealed.

Source: T.R. Knight Wants Out of Grey's Anatomy Contract

Despite the initial denials issued by the show amid the latest rumors of on-set upheaval, the revolving door that is the Grey's Anatomy cast has taken another sudden and surprising spin, reports the reliable Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly.

In a shocking development, sources are now confirming that T.R. Knight (George O'Malley) has asked to be released from his contract, a request that both ABC and Grey's Anatomy creator / executive producer Shonda Rhimes appear poised to grant.

"They're working out the details now," whispers an ABC insider.

There's no word on when T.R. Knight would make his final appearance, but, contrary to a report on the gossip blog crazydaysandnights.com, he has not walked off the set of the show: "He's still working," maintains EW's Grey's Anatomy mole.

Rumors of Knight's unhappiness with Grey's Anatomy date back to Isaiah-gate. The actor was reportedly upset that despite Patrick Dempsey and Katherine Heigl rallying to his defense, it took Rhimes so long to publicly condemn Washington's now-infamous use of the F-word.

The incident led T.R. Knight to come out as a gay man.

Rhimes eventually released a statement denouncing Washington's behavior, but word is, it was too little, too late. Nonetheless, a Grey's Anatomy source insists Knight does not want out of his contract for that reason, adding, "He just feels it's time to move on."

A spokesperson for T.R. Knight declined to comment.

T.R. Knight's probable exit comes at a time when his character, George, has been given little to do of late, save for express concern over Izzie's mental state.

Rep Denies Report of T.R. Knight Quitting Grey's Anatomy

Despite a report picked up on several celebrity news sites, T.R. Knight is not leaving Grey's Anatomy, a show rep told Us Weekly exclusively Monday.

T.R. Knight has never walked off set in the middle of filming. He attended the table read today and will be shooting this week, just like any other week of production," the Grey's Anatomy rep said, responding to recent reports.

Rumors first erupted after an entertainment lawyer posted on his personal website, CrazyDaysAndNights.net, that Knight walked off and quit the show.

"So, I got a little more information from my source and they say, 'He hasn’t attended table reads since Episode 2. He's pissed and miserable and thinks his story line is stupid,'" he blogged.

"He said goodbye to his hair and makeup people last week. He says he is done and has quit. ABC has not released him. Shonda Rhimes, the producer called him and he told her he had nothing to say. He has packed his dressing room.”

He Passed!

Although it has now been emphatically denied, it's interesting that this rumor popped up after T.R.'s character, George O'Malley, has been conspicuously MIA for weeks. One wonders if there may be a little truth to it, even if the incident were exaggerated. Thoughts?

Brooke Smith Takes Firing in Stride

Brooke Smith says she isn't holding a grudge after abruptly and controversially getting fired from the cast of ABC's Grey's Anatomy last month.

"It's an end of a chapter," the actress, 41, said over the weekend at the Trevor Project's 11th Annual Cracked Christmas event in Los Angeles.

"Grey's Anatomy was good experience," she added. "I'd played gay characters before, and I don't think that's going to end. There's no hard feelings. I have other projects now, so it is what it is."

Smith is now writing a new show with NYPD Blue producer David Milch.

Rumors swirled that Brooke Smith got the ax because her character was gay, but show creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes denied that in a statement, saying:

"Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it's not an issue as we have a lesbian character - Dr. Calliope Torres (Sara Ramirez)... we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke's character would sustain in the long run."

Backing up Rhimes' remarks is the fact that intern Sadie (Melissa George) was flirting with Callie in the most recent episode, "All By Myself," while a new love interest, Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) is rumored to be joining the cast come Spring.

Mary McDonnell Discusses Grey's Anatomy Character

Grey's Anatomy guest star Mary McDonnell (Dr. Dixon) recently sat down to discuss her thoughts on the show and playing a character with Asperger's Syndrome. It's always interesting to hear it from the actors' and actresses' perspectives. Here's what she had to say...

Eric Dane Seeks New Role: Fatherhood

He portrays a playboy doctor who has all the ladies swooning on Grey’s Anatomy, but in real life, Eric Dane, a.k.a. “McSteamy,” is happily married.

Now, he reveals that he and Mrs. McSteamy are trying for children!

“We’re currently working on having kids,” Dane told Access Hollywood of his and wife Rebecca Gayheart’s future plans. “I want to have kids. I’m ready. I have no experience with having kids, however, I’m ready to feel out those experiences.”

Eric Dane, SAG Style

Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane have been married since 2004, and while Eric might not have much experience with kids, the actor knows what he wants for his future children - especially if they happen to be daughters.

“I don’t want her to be steamy if she’s a girl,” he says.

Grey's Anatomy Round Table: "All By Myself"

While fans gather in our Grey's Anatomy forum to discuss each character, couple and plot twist, the Insider staff comes together to talk about some of the best moments and share opinions regarding the latest episode of our favorite medical drama.

Topics for our "All By Myself" Round Table include weekly impressions of Denny, Cristina's decision, Callie and Sadie, memorable quotes and much more ...

1. What was your favorite Grey's Anatomy quote from the episode?

McCritic: The exchange between Lexie and Mark, as the former undressed in front of the latter. Lexie's constant pleading of "teach me" was a) in character, because Lexie isn't exactly the confident, seductive type; and b) HOT!

missingBurke: So many choices, but this Mer-Der quote / exchange was my favorite.

iheartizzie: Even if you're not a fan of Alex and Izzie together, you had to love the "I frickin' love you" speech. I also enjoyed Owen's telling Cristina to go with her gut, then expalining why.

Bad Little Grey

Lexie's "Teach me, teach me" quote won over at least one Insider staff writer.

2. Did Cristina make the right choice?

iheartizzie: Anybody but Izzie would have been the right choice. Can you imagine Denny in the O.R., with his running commentary throughout the amputation? Distracting!

McCritic: Yes. The solo surgery was about safety, not friendship. Meredith semi-apologizing for the fight between her and Cristina was nothing compared to Alex simply listing his qualifications for the procedure.

missingBurke: Much as I love the Meredith-Cristina frienship I would have to say yes. It's about saving lives and Cristina did what she thought was right, end of story.

Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Callie and Arizona?

What is the deal with the love life of Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez)?

Hahn is out ... Sadie is possibly in ... Mark is always hanging around.

Well, according to the Los Angeles Times, Jessica Capshaw is joining Grey's Anatomy for a three-episode story arc as pediatrician Dr. Arizona Robbins, who comes to Seattle Grace to help Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) on a difficult surgical case.

That much isn't new - but now the word is that she's also going to share at least one kiss with Callie! Arizona will be a love interest for Callie for those episodes.

But what about Sadie (Melissa George) and the insinuation in last night's episode, "All By Myself," that Callie and Sadie might be heading toward a romance?

Sources say despite their initial flirtation, this will not really go anywhere. But that does not mean Sadie will be totally out of the love loop at Seattle Grace.

"She'll be having lots [of love interests]," Melissa George said. "Of course, it's Grey's Anatomy. Everybody loves everybody. The girls, the guys, everybody."
