During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Patrick Dempsey commented on Brooke Smith and her departure From Grey's Anatomy - meaning he read a statement from ABC.
Clearly the Grey's Anatomy leading man can't say a lot about it - he may not even know a lot about it - but Patrick did manage to crack a joke at one point. Here's the clip below (if anyone can find the full interview please post the link and we'll add it)!

I feel rather sorry for Patrick, he should not have to be explaining/reading a statement from ABC. They or Shonda should be out there doing the talking.

what an asshole! seriously! it seemed like he didnt care. trying to make a joke during abcs "statement" and why the hell would abc give him a note of what to say? what is abc hiding???????

He obviously care. He wasn't making fun of the situation, he was mocking ABC for trying to tell its actors what to say.
The fact he shwoed the note shows he doesn't like what ABC is doing and shows he wants to let people know ABC is trying to hide the real story.

Kudos to Patrick Dempsey - he obviously doesn't want to threaten his own employment, but he did just enough with this interview to properly convey the fact that Brooke's firing was kinda bulls*** and that it was fueled by the network's discomfort with the storyline.

Go Patrick. No way was he making fun of the situation, but showing his displeasure at ABC and for being used as their mouthpiece.
