Grey's Anatomy Spoilers, News, Etc.

Here's a little Grey's Anatomy spoiler / news item from E! Online's Q&A today, pertaining to Owen and Cristina, as well as another piece of information regarding Private Practice that may offer a hint at the shows' spring crossover episode(s) ...

Q: I love Major Hottie on Grey's Anatomy! Tell me he's staying forever!

A: Major Hottie's staying on Grey's Anatomy for the duration of the season at the very least. For most of the year, when Owen's not focused on Cristina, he just keeps his head down and works, but we'll see him in at least one other social relationship: a McBromance! Kevin McKidd said: "I think Owen and Derek are going to connect at some point in the season. I think he goes to Derek for help, to try to figure out what it is that's wrong with him and why isn't he sleeping... I don't think there's any danger, the problem is more in his head."

Shepherd and Hunt

Q: Can you share any info on Private Practice? It's gotten superaddictive!

A: Grant Show begins his six-episode guest arc on this Wednesday's episode of the Grey spin-off, and E! just chatted him up, so check back that morning for exclusive scoop from Mr. Archer Montgomery Forbes himself. The informed speculation is that Grant Show's character, Archer, is part of the big spring crossover between Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, and more significantly, he may even be the reason for the big spring crossover... We'll see!

Dr. McDreamy in White, on Wheels

Being so handsome is hard work. Even Dr. McDreamy needs some exercise from time to time. Here's Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey pedaling through Beverly Hills ...

Jennifer Westfeldt to Guest Star on Grey's Anatomy

One of Seattle Grace's finest may soon be kissing Jessica Stein.

Or something. According to Entertainment Weekly, actress Jennifer Westfeldt (of Kissing Jessica Stein and Notes from the Underbelly fame) is coming on board Grey's Anatomy.

She'll be featured in a multi-episode story arc later in Season Five.

Fortunately, having just added the amazing Melissa George as intern Sadie, the show isn't adding yet another doctor to its already crowded rotation of surgeons and their subordinates. Jennifer Westfeldt is only coming to Seattle Grace as a patient, according to reports.

Jennifer Westfeldt

If history is any indication, she might fall in love with one of her docs. Then she may die, but why let that slow her down? She can always come back as a ghost later on.

Okay, just kidding. We have no idea if that's true at all, it was just a bad attempt at humor on our part. Either way, we're looking forward to seeing Jennifer on the show.

Happy Birthday, Katherine Heigl!

Talented and often-controversial Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl turns 30 today. She got married last winter to musician Josh Kelley. Happy birthday, Katie!

The Emmy-winning actress is once again raising eyebrows on and off the Grey's Anatomy set this season with Izzie's romances with Alex and her dead fiance, Denny.

There has been speculation that this is leading toward Heigl's departure from the series, but that's pure conjecture right now. We just sit back and enjoy it for what it is.

Grey's Anatomy Round Table: "In the Midnight Hour"

While fans gather in our Grey's Anatomy forum to discuss each character, couple and plot twist, the Insider staff comes together to talk about some of the best moments and share opinions regarding the latest episode of our favorite medical drama.

Topics for our "In the Midnight Hour" Round Table include Bailey's new challenge, the interns' punishment (or lack thereof), Meredith and Cristina's fight and more ...

1. What was your favorite Grey's Anatomy quote from the episode?

McCritic: When Denny told Izzie it was okay for her to go sleep with Alex: It's okay. I'll be right here. (You've broken me down, Shonda. Hooray for ghost Denny!!!)

missingBurke: Tie between Mark telling Callie she's beautiful after she had her nose broken, and Derek's perplexed "Who's making a porno movie in Izzie's room?"

iheartizzie: I loved Alex's refusal to leave Izzie's side, no matter what a mess she is. If there's a saving grace to the Denny story line, which I find a bit tired (albeit intriguing, certainly), it will be seeing how Alex reacts as things unfold.

Meredith and Cristina Picture

Was Cristina justified in being upset with Meredith?

2. Should Meredith have stood up for more for Cristina?

iheartizzie: I see Cristina's point, that Mer should have shown solidarity, but Mer was put in a really tough spot there. It's hard to see how she could have seen that coming, or what she would have said to share the blame or take the heat.

McCritic: This fight felt forced. Meredith reacted with legitimate shock when the Chief asked Cristina about knowledge of any extracurricular behavior by the interns. How quickly did Cristina expert Meredith to think on her feet?

missingBurke: I think so. The situation unraveled rather quickly, but Meredith had an opportunity to jump in at least once and (intentionally or not) stood there idly.

Some of Last Night's Memorable Grey's Anatomy Moments

Last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy, "In the Midnight Hour," the ninth episode of Season Five, contained plenty of memorable moments, a couple of which we've posted below.

In the flrst clip, Meredith and Cristina are confronted by the Chief after coming to the rescue in Lexie's debacle, but end up turning on each other in an emotional argument ...

In the second clip, Izzie confesses to Alex what a mess she is, but assures her he isn't going anywhere. Denny watches as Izzie leaves with Alex, but promises he'll be right here ...

"In the Midnight Hour" From the Writers' Viewpoint

Grey's Anatomy writer Joan Rater, who authored last night's episode, has posted some thoughts on "In the Midnight Hour" on the show's official writers' blog for the fans.

Below is an excerpt, with a link to the full column at the bottom ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, it’s a little crazy to try to take out an appendix. I get that. I think Lexie and Sadie and all the interns get that. IT’S CRAZY TO TAKE OUT AN APPENDIX!
But here’s the thing – it’s the middle of the night. And an appendectomy is the easiest surgery. And they’ve seen them done. And they’ve done them on the practice dummy, iStan.
And they’re competitive and feel like their residents aren’t letting them do anything and, I think it bears repeating … it’s the middle of the night. When all things are possible.
It’s not the middle of the night as I write this, but it’s late, 11 pm, and I’m feeling like maybe I’ll wake up early and exercise before work.
I probably won’t, cause like … um … I never have … but it’s late and under cover of darkness … all things feel possible. Which brings me to Izzie.
No Margin For Error
I’ll get back to the interns because more needs to be said – THEY TOOK OUT SADIE’S APPENDIX! - but Izzie … Izzie just touched Denny - talking, breathing, right here in her bedroom Denny – and she’s just sitting there at the beginning of the episode wondering what’s going on, it’s not possible that he’s here, because he died, but he’s here and he’s talking and now he’s walking toward her and now he’s unbuckling his belt and ….
Crazy. Unreal. Impossible.
But I think Izzie is thinking that tonight she’s going to let this be possible. In the confines of her room she’s going to let this be real. But it’s complicated and scary.
She and Alex are finally good, really good and so what is this, why is Denny here, why can’t she just move on? And I think she thinks she will - tomorrow, in the morning, as I’m exercising, she’ll be all moving on and stuff, but tonight ….
Tonight why can’t she just let miracles happen, turn off her scientist brain and just be in that moment, the two of them, finally alone together?  And by the way, I don’t think she thinks it’s cheating on Alex.  I really don’t. Because Denny’s dead.
Whatever this is, whatever he is, Izzie knows this isn’t real, she KNOWS that, but it feels real and she just … closes her eyes and, you heard the sounds coming from the room, as Meredith said, it sounded kinda porny, so whatever’s going on with the dead guy, the sex is good at least …
But by morning, in the light of day, when appendixes have been removed and you realize you can’t stay in your room with your dead ex-boyfriend forever, she chooses Alex and it’s sad as she looks at Denny who seems sad, but he gets it, after all he’s “here for her …”
Grey's Anatomy Forum: "In the Midnight Hour"
New faces like Sadie (Melissa George) and old ones like Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) are shaking things up at Seattle Grace, and tonight's episode looks like no exception.
In this week's episode, "In the Midnight Hour," Lexie and her intern cohorts get in way over their heads with their surgical experimenting. Can Mer and Cristina save the day?
Also, Izzie is very excited about somebody, as one of the videos we've posted previewing the episode makes quite clear. Check out our photo gallery for more sneak peeks.
As always, you can discuss it before, during and after the show in our Grey's Anatomy forum, and/or by leaving comments on any of our posts. Tell us what's on your mind!
Tomorrow, we'll add our recap, quotes, more videos, a music guide, our Round Table discussion and more! Thanks for being a part of the web's #1 Grey's Anatomy community!
