Jeffrey Dean Morgan to Appear on at Least Five Episodes

When we first reported the news that Jeffrey Dean Morgan would be back on Grey's Anatomy this November, we assumed it was just for another fleeting cameo.

Now it's looking like the handsome actor who plays the late Denny Duquette, Jr., could be sticking around for the foreseeable future - and may well turn out to be the "surprising" love interest for Izzie that Shonda Rhimes promised in the offseason.

How long will Denny haunt Izzie and where the heck is this even going?

Morgan, JD

As for the first part, Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly says Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be in at least five episodes of Grey's Anatomy. Whether that's five from the start of his recent stint or five more as of now is unclear - but he's not going anywhere.

As far as where the story is headed, the most logical theory is that Shonda Rhimes is indeed giving Izzie a brain tumor, as was rumored months ago, and which would or could grant Katherine Heigl's (never publicly stated) wish to make movies full time.

But who says this story has to be logical, right? As Grey's Anatomy writer Stacy McKee opined on the show's writers blog after "These Ties That Bind":

"Maybe this is one connection that gets to defy all... common sense. Maybe it just gets to be. Even if it does seem too good to be true."

This is disappointing news. It's lame and tired and not at all expected from writers of a (once) award-winning show!
As great as Denny was, this whole reprise of his character and Izzie flying over the cuckoo's nest is irritating to say the least.
Not only is this possibly the worst Grey's storyline in my opinion, but it's monopolising screen time! Forcing all things George, MerDer, etc to be passed over in a few seconds worth of scenes per episode since the beginning of this season.
Looks like KH created an impression with her Emmy-denial and now the writers want her to leave the show with a statuette in her hand. Welcome to Stevens' Anatomy.

    Blerg!

    How is this possible?!?!
    DENNY IS DEAD!!
How can Izzie be kissing a dead guy???

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who is extremely dissapointed in this news.

He died, three years ago (in real-life time, probably only 1 year GA time), but still it's enough. I was sick of the Izzy/Denny story line when it originally aired. I didn't mind when Denny/Bomb-squad guy talked with Meredith when she was "dead" (it was a little far-fetched for me, but I accepted it) but this is just ridiculous... the burning of the sweater should have been the end, it was a PERFECT opporunity to close all doors and move on, but no.

Anyway, maybe I'll just tape it and then fast-forward through the Izzy/Denny parts. That's what I do when I watch S2 on DVD.

I'll be contrary here, I guess.

I know it's completely far-fetched, but I like it. I have close family members who have passed away... even though it's seems so out there, I am enjoying Izzie being able to see and touch Denny again. And their chemistry is so amazing!!! In GA time it's been about a year-- at the anniversary of someone's death is usually a big time of grieving.

The only thing I won't accept is if this is leading to Izzie has a mental illness.

I will accept the sickness/brain tumor story. Although, I'd really hate it if Izzie left-- they'll have to make Der do surgery and cure her!!

Oh, and Shonda & writers-- George needs to be by Izzie's side through her illness. They ARE BEST FRIENDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. I LUV Alex Says:

    Hate it!
I loved Denny while he was alive, but he's dead - let him be dead and let the living, like ALEX have a real storyline. Alex & Izzy are HOT. How will Alex's character ever grow if he keeps getting women who get psycho on him?

  6. Rhi Says:

I have $100 that in the next episode after the ghost sex, Alex is gonna come in and find Izzy on the floor with a nose bleed or something. And then we'll move on to the brain tumor...something like that better happen or I want whatever Shonda is smoking that makes this storyline make sense.

  7. LanieCroft Says:

Seriously, Denny was great when he was alive but now as a dead he has more screentime than the living ... not so good.
I'm all for stop bringing Denny back for good.

  8. rentaholic07 Says:

yeah.....love Denny and all but 5 episodes.....seriously.....let the man be dead

  9. McIrish Says:

I think it was 3 years ago Denny died Grey's time you know, I seem to remember Izzie saying in one of the recent s5 eps that it was 3 years ago...
I don't know how I feel about this. I should hate it, but I can't help but love the chemistry between Izzie and Denny (KH and JDM were amazing in that last ep). Despite the comeplete weirdness and riduclousness (is that even a word? haha) of the situation, I was still so touched by their scenes, particularly the last one...
A brain tumour would be a great storyline for Izzie, and YES, PLEASE let George be by her side if she's going to be ill! I really hope they don't kill her off though.

  10. MS Says:

I love Denny and I am glad this is making problems for Alex and Izzie, but not to the expense of George screentime. I love George miore than I hate AI.

I want George to be there for Izzie in this. He is her person.
