I have to agree that I like Callie and Mark together. They just work better. Lexie looks like a little girl compared to Mark and I just don't buy it. Sure, now that it's forbidden, he's thinking about it, but ew anyway.
More Mer/Der since that's REALLY what make the show popular in the first place.
The ghost thing is really really dumb. I like JDM as an actor, but the story is SO over. Let it go already. Tons of people who lost actual spouses of many years cope better than Izzie. She fancied herself in love with a guy she never even went out with, kills him with stupidity and then not only keeps her medical license but whines on and on and on about how she lost him? Now she is having sex with a ghost? Oh come on! She needs to get it together. No way could she practice medicine being that much of a basket case.
Enough with the strange and forced plots... How many no chemistry couples do we have to have? Oh let's force everything that moves together whether it works or not. Heck, let's even create lesbians because we're bored (since there were no lesbian inklings at ALL for Callie before Addison mentioned it and hell, apparently that's all it takes). Enough already!
Let's get back to what made Grey's great and stop with the stuff that's going to get you canceled.

The premiere of season 4 scored 21 mill viewers
then the ratings had been dropping ever since
then episode 5 Haunt You Everyday only scored Nielsen Live 16.44 mill viewers. It was one of the lowest ratings for Grey's Anatomy (btw Gizzie was still alive and sizzling)
Crash in to me part 1 aired on thanksgiving, so it only scored 14.6 mill viewers and i think Gizzie was completely over in this episode (and it was thanksgiving for gods sake! nobody tuned in on that special day)
then we had to wait for like 2 more weeks for part 2, which scored 17.78 on 12/06/2007
Due to the strike, they couldnt make any new episodes so they had to keep new episodes for feb and may sweeps.
The new episode aired one month later on 1/10/2008 and scored around 17.5 mill viewers (so basically Gizzie was already over 2-3 eps ago and the ratings came up)
But because of the strike, we had to wait 3 months and 14 days for the next episode. That episode aired on 4/24/2008 and scored 16.4 mill viewers and it started dipping a bit down to 15.6 but then it bounced back up in the season finale which scored 18.1.
that means Grey's had only lost 3 millions viewers last season (premiere 21 - finale 18) because of the strike (let me stress this ALL PRIME TIME SHOWS WERE AFFECTED BY THIS SAME STRIKE). Plus if you look at the demographics, you can tell that Grey's was able to maintain most its 18 - 34 demo viewers (the most important demo for prime time shows by the way) However, there was a significant drop in the 25-54 demo viewers. So are you saying that Gizzie fans are like in their 30s or 40s or something? SO TO SUM IT UP, IT WAS THE STRIKE GET OVER IT!!!!!

I remembered yesterday that Meredith was five when Thatcher left, so she should be at least 5 years older than Lexie, but considering that some time must have passed between him leaving and he marrying Susan, besides the fact that Lexie has an older sister, Lexie should be at least seven years younger than Meredith, so if Lexie is 24 on season 5 that means that Meredith is 31 or somewhere around that number...
What I would like is for Izzie to go to George for help, I mean, if you started having sex with a dead man, wouldn´t you try to get some help before it´s too late? And Izzie trusts george, cause george is reliable. he wouldn´t tell on her, maybe if he believed he was endangering someone else, but he would try to talk some sense into her, not go behind her back... Georege needs to come back, but first he needs to yell to those interns, he has to be his own person first.

I really love Addison. More than I though was possible, considering how she was introduced in the show. She was such a bitch then, and now she is so sweet... I love seeing her at Seattle Grace. I would like to say I want her back, but I also love Private Practice, and right now, that show is way better than GA... well, at least until Shonda starts haunting Oceanside Wellness Center or something... Can´t wait to have her back.
As to Mark and Lexie... I don´t see the allure there for Mark... I mean, yeah, he is a manwhore, but can´t he have sex with a grownup? Is he so desperate or has this ban Derek put on him what´s behind this "new interest" from his part? I think Lexie is fair game, she desperately wants companionship and is mad at George, so having sex with Mark would be some kind of revenge... twisted Grey logic: she may want to make George regret his treatment of her (now he knows she has feelings for him), she is acting out.

You say they went up there, no they went down, 17.5 is lower than 17.78, in case you didn't know
Episode 6 which was promoted as hot Gizzie sex had one of the highest ratings of the season too, and the ratings went down before the strike as you point out. They started going down on episode 8, where it was clear Gizzie would need. They weren't officially broken up, but many Gizzie fans quit after the tragic sex episode because we knew Shonda was going to stab us in the back.
Of course the season 4 finale ratings were higher. Premiere and finale always get higher numbers, duh!
Season 5 premiere was good too, even though they were down 20% from the season 4 premiere but after that, they went down.
You can't blame the strike for that. All the episodes except for the premiere got 14 millions viewers, the lowest number ever, and who was together? Alex and Izzie.
Then they brought Denny back and that is when the ratings went up. So maybe AI are the ones that get bad ratings?
And actually the 18-49 viewers are down 28% so I am not seeing it as maintaining them.
Yeah most Gizzie fans I know are in that bracket and most f their haters and AI fans I know are 14 to 18. There was actually a poll on that and most of the AI fans were very very young.
George and Izzie tend to have older fans who know hotness has nothing to do with love.
Also when Gizzie were together, all the Gizzie haters kept saying they make the ratings go down, which isn't the case so really it is a bit hypocritical of you guys to know lecture us for doing the same. At least with us, the ratings really did dip. With Gizzie together, they never did.
Also every show was affected by the strike but the newspaper and mags mentioned that Grey dropped more than almost any show and that it couldn't be blamed solely on the strike.
I know a whole lot of people who quit when Gizzie ended.

I don't think Gizzie ending are the sole reason for the ratings being down. A lot of people are just tired of the show for a lot of other reasons. That said, I think it does prove that Gizzie didn't bring the ratings down by being together like their haters claimed before they broke up though.
I still see some of them say they were disastrous for the ratings, which makes me laugh given the fact the episodes were they were together got 20 millions and now the show gets 15 million.
Shonda dropped them to brought the ratings up, everyone knows that, and thing is, it didn't work.
Bringing Denny back seem to do it though, although they are still not as good as they were in season 3.
You know, I just want the GI haters to admit that Gizzie together had no bad effect on ratings, and that in fact no single couple can have any strong effect on ratings.
They also need to admit Gizzie does have a big fanbase and not just haters.
I am just thrilled we are getting more scenes again, even if just as friends.
I agree with the majority on Mark and Lexie. She looks like his kid, for goodness sake. She and George would be perfect together, and h and Callie would too. I don't know why Shonda insists on making her a lesbian when she clearly has more chem with Mark than anyone and why she insists on Mark and Lexie, a couple most people seem grossed out by?

OOooooooh, so many good news! Addie will be back! George and Izzie will be seen as friends again! And Denny will stay until FEBRUARY! Yaay, I think this is awesome! I love the Denny-Izzie-Alex story. In my opinion Izzie and Alex make a cute couple (and will be one eventually) but Denny is just perfect, the love of her life. I think it's great he's here and I am really curious where this is going and especially about the others' reactions when they find out Izzie had to deal with seeing her dead fiance's ghost all the time. Again: Thanks for the great news, what a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I didnt say the ratings were down because of Gizzie. I said Gizzie was not solely responsible for the ratings being down. I told you it was thanksgiving (that was the episode after Gizzie was over). The ratings went down because nobody was bother to tune in to see anything on Thanksgiving. 2 weeks later the ratings came up again and remained the same even 1 month later. Im just trying to prove that Gizzie was not the main reason.
Grey's anatomy is not about George and Izzie. Its about the fab 5 and Meredith. Obviously the ratings had to go down because the strike put the production on hold for like 3-4 months. They put too many reruns to fill the gap.. thats why people kind of gave up and chose to watch the episodes on ABC.com or wait for the DVDs. Lost used to be like this so they solved it by scheduling the premiere in January. All the ratings are down this year too including shows like CSI PvP DH UglyBetty Heroes. If you look at the statistics, you'll know that every show has gone down 20-30%. so are you saying that Gizzie brought down the ratings for other shows too? Everybody knows its because of the strike, even the critics like (Kristin,Ausiello,Mitch,Matt) said it. Im not saying Gizzie was Bad. I just dont agree with you about the ratings thats all.

plus why do Gizzie fans always have the make a comparison between A/I and Gizzie? You know i don't even think that A/I had anything to do with the ratings either. like I said, Grey's is not just about Alex Izzie and George. There are like 7-8 other characters on the show as well. If you are going to take credit for the ratings being high then A/I fans can also say because of their sex scenes in season 2 during that bomb episode and their post-Olivia relationship after the bomb, Grey's Anatomy has become the no.1 show in America...

so using Gizzie's ratings logic -> AI brought in more viewers than Gizzie did
But deep down you know, its all bullpoo because Grey's isn't just about these 3 characters..
I will say, as much as I love(d) Denny. He needs to be gone.
He is dead. And as for Izzie, I have no idea what to think. I just hope that she will be able to move on, to Alex who is actually being a genuinely (shock!) nice guy to her.

Alex and Izzie were a very small part of season 2. You had MerDer, George and Izzie as best friends, Burketina. Izzie slept with Al;ex a couple of times the n dumped him from Denny. Of course the ratings were higher in season 2, the show was still fresh and new, and I will say it: beack in season 2, I know AI had a lot more fans. Now in season 5, I read a lot of people who think they should have stayed dead and that they lost their magic (to me, they naver had it anyway).
Beginning of season 5 was all Alex and Izzie all the time, and the ratings went down, which means they just aren't working anymore. Denny came back and the ratings went up.
You also have to understand that back in season 2, even the Gizize fans who hate AI could tolerate them back then because they hadn't seen how totally amazing Gizie would be as a couple. I know many people who stopped shipping AI when theys aw how great Gizzie was, and after that, those Gizzie fans couldn't go back to just accepting them as friends, especially since that friendship was killed too so they left and the ratings have been bad ever since.
I also read that Grey is one of the show that lost the most ratings after the strike.
That said, I could accept Gizzie as just best friends as long as she is not with Alex (they don't work) and they have ,ots of scenes like they did in season 2 and George can hook up with Lexie. Mark and Izzie would be super hot, see I can be reasonable.

Why the season sucks:
1) The attending surgeons have been dumbed down and not acting like teachers.
2) The residents haven't matured much, aren't teaching anyone and are getting dumber.
3) The new interns aren't doing a whole lot. They are idiots.
Dr. Bailey was at least interested in her interns -- educating them, keeping track of them, assigning them tasks.
The Dizzie situation is serving no purpose. It's irritating. Denny is dead. The acting is thoroughly unappealing, as is the writing.
For the main characters, the transition from interns to residents appears to be a lost opportunity to see the characters grow. The residents should all be demoted and Dr. Bailey back in control of them. And include some of the newer interns. In fact, some of this season's residents should be fired. Some of the interns should be fired.
It really feels like the writers strike killed the feel of the show.

I hate Alex and Izzie, and love Denny, but even I am starting to find this ridiculous. Do they have to destroy Dizzie just to prop up Alex and Izzie? can't they stand on their own? I am starting to think Shonda has as much faith in Alex and Izzie as a couple as I do, which means none, but then they should just put Izzie with someone else, preferrably George but any other guy would do.
George and Lexie could be a great couple I think if given a chance but like Gizzie, they don't seem to be, so my guess is Shonda really doesn't want George to ever find love, because he keeps losing love to other guys that deserve it less than him.

No I think this whole Dizzie thing is here to prove that there might be a possibility for Izzie to truly fall in love with someone else other Denny. Denny was her soulmate/ultimate love. Apparently Izzie hasn't moved on yet. She thought she has when she slept with George in season 3&4 or with Alex in season 5 but she hasnt. The patient from episode 7 just reminded her of her repressed memories of Denny and her guilt.
Mckidd said this storyline is based on Truly Madly something. I googled it and the movie is about this girl who lost her fiance from some kind of accident. When she is about to go out with her new boyfriend, her dead fiance comes back to haunt her. In the end, the ghost becomes so annoying that she has to let him go. then she falls in love with her new boyfriend. and then we know that her fiance came back to annoy her because he wanted her to move on. Shonda also said Alex and Izzie will grow together this year. Maybe this is Izzie's big love story because she has to find a way to get over her dead fiance and be happy. i love George and Izzie as friends! I hope he will help bringing Alex and Izzie closer.
Here are some similarities i found in the next episode:
Denny and Izzie making out in the on call room and Alex barged in just like when Alex was having sex with Olivia and Izzie caught them in season 2.
The D/I/A triangle is pretty much similar to the old one in season 2 except this time it seems like Alex is the good guy and Denny is the annoying one.
I guess George maybe the one who will confront Izzie about her recent behavior. They need to repair their friendship asap!

And Izzie trusts george, cause george is reliable. he wouldn´t tell on her, maybe if he believed he was endangering someone else, but he would try to talk some sense into her, not go behind her back... Georege needs to come back, but first he needs to yell to those interns, he has to be his own person first.

I am sorry, I have an obsessive personality, but I just can´t get past the sex with a ghost thing.
I really love Addison. More than I though was possible, considering how she was introduced in the show. She was such a bitch then, and now she is so sweet... I love seeing her at Seattle Grace. I would like to say I want her back, but I also love Private Practice, and right now, that show is way better than GA... well, at least until Shonda starts haunting Oceanside Wellness Center or something... Can´t wait to have her back.
As to Mark and Lexie... I don´t see the allure there for Mark... I mean, yeah, he is a manwhore, but can´t he have sex with a grownup? Is he so desperate or has this ban Derek put on him what´s behind this "new interest" from his part? I think Lexie is fair game, she desperately wants companionship and is mad at George, so having sex with Mark would be some kind of revenge... twisted Grey logic: she may want to make George regret his treatment of her (now he knows she has feelings for him), she is acting out.
But Mark? I mean, if Meredith is a 12 year old, then Lexie can´t be over five!!! she is a freaking child!!!

Due to the strike, they couldnt make any new episodes so they had to keep new episodes for feb and may sweeps.
The new episode aired one month later on 1/10/2008 and scored around 17.5 mill viewers (so basically Gizzie was already over 2-3 eps ago and the ratings came up)
You say they went up there, no they went down, 17.5 is lower than 17.78, in case you didn't know
Episode 6 which was promoted as hot Gizzie sex had one of the highest ratings of the season too, and the ratings went down before the strike as you point out. They started going down on episode 8, where it was clear Gizzie would need. They weren't officially broken up, but many Gizzie fans quit after the tragic sex episode because we knew Shonda was going to stab us in the back.
Of course the season 4 finale ratings were higher. Premiere and finale always get higher numbers, duh!
Season 5 premiere was good too, even though they were down 20% from the season 4 premiere but after that, they went down.
You can't blame the strike for that. All the episodes except for the premiere got 14 millions viewers, the lowest number ever, and who was together? Alex and Izzie.
Then they brought Denny back and that is when the ratings went up. So maybe AI are the ones that get bad ratings?
And actually the 18-49 viewers are down 28% so I am not seeing it as maintaining them.
Yeah most Gizzie fans I know are in that bracket and most f their haters and AI fans I know are 14 to 18. There was actually a poll on that and most of the AI fans were very very young.
George and Izzie tend to have older fans who know hotness has nothing to do with love.
Also when Gizzie were together, all the Gizzie haters kept saying they make the ratings go down, which isn't the case so really it is a bit hypocritical of you guys to know lecture us for doing the same. At least with us, the ratings really did dip. With Gizzie together, they never did.
Also every show was affected by the strike but the newspaper and mags mentioned that Grey dropped more than almost any show and that it couldn't be blamed solely on the strike.
I know a whole lot of people who quit when Gizzie ended.

I don't think Gizzie ending are the sole reason for the ratings being down. A lot of people are just tired of the show for a lot of other reasons. That said, I think it does prove that Gizzie didn't bring the ratings down by being together like their haters claimed before they broke up though.
I still see some of them say they were disastrous for the ratings, which makes me laugh given the fact the episodes were they were together got 20 millions and now the show gets 15 million.
Shonda dropped them to brought the ratings up, everyone knows that, and thing is, it didn't work.
Bringing Denny back seem to do it though, although they are still not as good as they were in season 3.
You know, I just want the GI haters to admit that Gizzie together had no bad effect on ratings, and that in fact no single couple can have any strong effect on ratings.
They also need to admit Gizzie does have a big fanbase and not just haters.
I am just thrilled we are getting more scenes again, even if just as friends.
I agree with the majority on Mark and Lexie. She looks like his kid, for goodness sake. She and George would be perfect together, and h and Callie would too. I don't know why Shonda insists on making her a lesbian when she clearly has more chem with Mark than anyone and why she insists on Mark and Lexie, a couple most people seem grossed out by?

OOooooooh, so many good news! Addie will be back! George and Izzie will be seen as friends again! And Denny will stay until FEBRUARY! Yaay, I think this is awesome! I love the Denny-Izzie-Alex story. In my opinion Izzie and Alex make a cute couple (and will be one eventually) but Denny is just perfect, the love of her life. I think it's great he's here and I am really curious where this is going and especially about the others' reactions when they find out Izzie had to deal with seeing her dead fiance's ghost all the time. Again: Thanks for the great news, what a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I didnt say the ratings were down because of Gizzie. I said Gizzie was not solely responsible for the ratings being down. I told you it was thanksgiving (that was the episode after Gizzie was over). The ratings went down because nobody was bother to tune in to see anything on Thanksgiving. 2 weeks later the ratings came up again and remained the same even 1 month later. Im just trying to prove that Gizzie was not the main reason.
Grey's anatomy is not about George and Izzie. Its about the fab 5 and Meredith. Obviously the ratings had to go down because the strike put the production on hold for like 3-4 months. They put too many reruns to fill the gap.. thats why people kind of gave up and chose to watch the episodes on ABC.com or wait for the DVDs. Lost used to be like this so they solved it by scheduling the premiere in January. All the ratings are down this year too including shows like CSI PvP DH UglyBetty Heroes. If you look at the statistics, you'll know that every show has gone down 20-30%. so are you saying that Gizzie brought down the ratings for other shows too? Everybody knows its because of the strike, even the critics like (Kristin,Ausiello,Mitch,Matt) said it. Im not saying Gizzie was Bad. I just dont agree with you about the ratings thats all.

See you can tell that Denny actually did not make any big difference at all. the viewers were around 15.5 even b4 he came. plus even the ratings are down. Grey's anatomy is still no.1 among 18-34 viewers. The ratio index (the ratio the advertisers are looking for) for Grey's Anatomy is 2.0-2.1 and CSI and DH came right after. so even though Gizzie fans said they have quitted the show, it still did not matter at all.
plus why do Gizzie fans always have the make a comparison between A/I and Gizzie? You know i don't even think that A/I had anything to do with the ratings either. like I said, Grey's is not just about Alex Izzie and George. There are like 7-8 other characters on the show as well. If you are going to take credit for the ratings being high then A/I fans can also say because of their sex scenes in season 2 during that bomb episode and their post-Olivia relationship after the bomb, Grey's Anatomy has become the no.1 show in America...

He is dead. And as for Izzie, I have no idea what to think. I just hope that she will be able to move on, to Alex who is actually being a genuinely (shock!) nice guy to her.
Or is it to much to ask that things could be slightly normal?

First, ABC removed Hahn because they didn't 'like' her... as if it matters!
Then Izzie's got this foolish storyline.
Shonda's pretending George doesn't exist.
And the pedophilia thing with Mark and Lexie... Gexie was going pretty well, and now they're ruining it - the only couple that is actually good, and George and Lexie are both alive.
And where the hell do you get off telling that Gizzie was the worst thing that's ever happened to the show? You pissed a lot of Gizzie fans with that.

Alex and Izzie were a very small part of season 2. You had MerDer, George and Izzie as best friends, Burketina. Izzie slept with Al;ex a couple of times the n dumped him from Denny. Of course the ratings were higher in season 2, the show was still fresh and new, and I will say it: beack in season 2, I know AI had a lot more fans. Now in season 5, I read a lot of people who think they should have stayed dead and that they lost their magic (to me, they naver had it anyway).
Beginning of season 5 was all Alex and Izzie all the time, and the ratings went down, which means they just aren't working anymore. Denny came back and the ratings went up.
You also have to understand that back in season 2, even the Gizize fans who hate AI could tolerate them back then because they hadn't seen how totally amazing Gizie would be as a couple. I know many people who stopped shipping AI when theys aw how great Gizzie was, and after that, those Gizzie fans couldn't go back to just accepting them as friends, especially since that friendship was killed too so they left and the ratings have been bad ever since.
I also read that Grey is one of the show that lost the most ratings after the strike.
That said, I could accept Gizzie as just best friends as long as she is not with Alex (they don't work) and they have ,ots of scenes like they did in season 2 and George can hook up with Lexie. Mark and Izzie would be super hot, see I can be reasonable.

I am in agrement with most people here. Mark and Lexie are seriously gross and have zero romantic chemistry.

Hrii, in defense of the mods here, they are not the ones who called Gizzie the worst thing ever, the poster who sent the question to Aussiello is.
The mods here have always been very respetful of us Gizzie fans and wouldn't make comments like that.
I agree with everyone on Mark and Lexie, completely gross. He has grey hair and she looks 15 for goodness sake.
Could for once in his life Mark be the mentor who helps someone, does he have to sleep with everyone? It is getting gross.

Why the season sucks:
1) The attending surgeons have been dumbed down and not acting like teachers.
2) The residents haven't matured much, aren't teaching anyone and are getting dumber.
3) The new interns aren't doing a whole lot. They are idiots.
Dr. Bailey was at least interested in her interns -- educating them, keeping track of them, assigning them tasks.
The Dizzie situation is serving no purpose. It's irritating. Denny is dead. The acting is thoroughly unappealing, as is the writing.
For the main characters, the transition from interns to residents appears to be a lost opportunity to see the characters grow. The residents should all be demoted and Dr. Bailey back in control of them. And include some of the newer interns. In fact, some of this season's residents should be fired. Some of the interns should be fired.
It really feels like the writers strike killed the feel of the show.

I hate Alex and Izzie, and love Denny, but even I am starting to find this ridiculous. Do they have to destroy Dizzie just to prop up Alex and Izzie? can't they stand on their own? I am starting to think Shonda has as much faith in Alex and Izzie as a couple as I do, which means none, but then they should just put Izzie with someone else, preferrably George but any other guy would do.
George and Lexie could be a great couple I think if given a chance but like Gizzie, they don't seem to be, so my guess is Shonda really doesn't want George to ever find love, because he keeps losing love to other guys that deserve it less than him.

No I think this whole Dizzie thing is here to prove that there might be a possibility for Izzie to truly fall in love with someone else other Denny. Denny was her soulmate/ultimate love. Apparently Izzie hasn't moved on yet. She thought she has when she slept with George in season 3&4 or with Alex in season 5 but she hasnt. The patient from episode 7 just reminded her of her repressed memories of Denny and her guilt.
Mckidd said this storyline is based on Truly Madly something. I googled it and the movie is about this girl who lost her fiance from some kind of accident. When she is about to go out with her new boyfriend, her dead fiance comes back to haunt her. In the end, the ghost becomes so annoying that she has to let him go. then she falls in love with her new boyfriend. and then we know that her fiance came back to annoy her because he wanted her to move on. Shonda also said Alex and Izzie will grow together this year. Maybe this is Izzie's big love story because she has to find a way to get over her dead fiance and be happy. i love George and Izzie as friends! I hope he will help bringing Alex and Izzie closer.
Here are some similarities i found in the next episode:
Denny and Izzie making out in the on call room and Alex barged in just like when Alex was having sex with Olivia and Izzie caught them in season 2.
The D/I/A triangle is pretty much similar to the old one in season 2 except this time it seems like Alex is the good guy and Denny is the annoying one.
I guess George maybe the one who will confront Izzie about her recent behavior. They need to repair their friendship asap!
