While fans gather in our Grey's Anatomy forum to discuss each character, couple and plot twist, the Insider staff comes together to talk about some of the best moments and share opinions regarding the latest episode of our favorite medical drama.
Topics for our Round Table for "These Ties That Bind" include the show's new direction, Cristina and Owen, Little Sloan and Little Grey, and the lack of MerDer drama ...
1. So, Grey's Anatomy appears to be the new Ghost Whisperer. Are you happy with this direction?
McCritic: No. I'm all for fairy tale love... in fairy tales! Shonda and the writers can't take pride in how realistic their show depicts relationships, only to create a story line based around interaction with a ghost.
missingBurke: I'm all for more Denny Duquette, but this development strains credulity.
iheartizzie: Hallucinations occur when an individual has a tumor in the temporal lobe of one's brain. Therefore, I can only imagine this angle is a way for the show to slowly reveal Izzie's long-rumored brain tumor. If that's the case, you gotta hand it to the writers for crafting an interesting (and handsome!) way to bring on the disease.
Has Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) officially lost it?
2. Will Mark heed Derek's advice and keep "Little Sloan" away from "Little Grey?"
iheartizzie: Unlikely. That's like someone on The Bachelor actually finding love on the show.
McCritic: I'm actually gonna say yes. Via his relationship with Callie, a softer side has developed to Mark. He'll respect his best friend's wishes.
missingBurke: Of course not. Mark isn't a bad guy, but the part of the body he thinks with isn't exactly in his head.
3. The addition of Sadie: YAY-die? Or NAY-die?
missingBurke: Her first few scenes felt a bit forced. She leaps into bed with Meredith, she takes off her shirt and cuts herself. Must the writers bludgeon viewers over the head right away with just how free-spirited Sadie appears to be?
McCritic: You're asking this question solely due to the witty way in which it's phrased, aren't you? Well played, Round Table writers! It's early, but so far Sadie seems like an enjoyable injection of enthusiasm.
iheartizzie: She has potential, even if it's just as an obstacle in the friendship between Cristina and Meredith. For a pair of dark and twisty people, they get along way too well.
4. How long until Cristina and Hunt take their relationship to the on-call room level (if you know what we mean!)?
McCritic: Dr. Hunt means business. He and Cristina may go steady at one point, but I can't see the goateed doctor engaging in any on-call room activity that doesn't involve sleep.
iheartizzie: However long it takes viewers to come up with a nickname for the potential couple. The most obvious possibility is likely too X-rated.
missingBurke: Soon, and when we least expect. The sparks between these two are so red hot, they may explode at any time.
5. Do you yearn for more Mer-Der drama this season?
iheartizzie: Yes. And I have a suspicion Sadie will provide it.
missingBurke: I just yearn for Derek to stop wearing a shirt in bed. Come on, McDreamy, it's gotta be hot in Seattle!
McCritic: No way. Meredith and Derek are finally at peace in their relationship. Isn't that what viewers have been clamoring for? Let's enjoy their normalcy.
Will Sadie (Melissa George, right) cause friction between Meredith and Derek?

I was really surprised how quickly it felt that the writers got bored with Sadie. I'm guessing that when she had the Bisexual story line she probably had more face time, but the 4 scenes she was in were pathetic. I was really hoping she would shake things up around the hospital, not that mutilating oneself in front of your coworkers isn't hardcore and all, but It felt like she was just another one of the interns that are "just there".

I'll call Sadie Eh-die. Not exactly sure how I feel about her. I mean, I don't dislike her but I don't love her either. I'll just wait and see.
No more MerDer drama. They had their fare share of four seasons of drama. Give them some peace of mind. Mess up with someone else for a change. I don't think Sadie is going to bring that drama more like she's going to make Derek more curious of Mer's past (and in the path, me too) but that's about it. It would be too streched out if she tried to hit on Derek or something. Get her to Mark so that Little Sloan (or Big Sloan) has something to do...or a storyline at least. But it seems that Lexie has already caught his eye.
And, word. McDreamy gotta pull that shirt off sometime right? That goes to McSteamy too. *sigh*

If Mark sleeps with Lexie, I'm gonna be so pissed. I hope in the next episode George will be in it more than once (maybe we'll get lucky and he'll be on the screen for more than thirty seconds!)
I love Sadie. I'm happy they've brought her on the show. She's funny, out there and quite...different. Love it.
Izzie's apparently going to sleep with a ghost, which if you wannt get technical that's necrophilia. It's a bit freaky. I like Denny and all that, but if they planned to keep showing him, why didn't they just keep him alive?
Another thing that Izzie could have is Lyme disease. Have any of you ever seen the show Joan of Arcadia? God appeared to Joan and at the end of season one they said she had Lyme disease and it causes hallucinations and stuff. That's technically what Izzie's having... And another thing: Joan could feel God, because he'd appear as different people and stuff.
Wow, this was longer than I had anticipated.

if sadie sticks around for much longer im going to be pissed. i really love what there doing with Izzies storyline though its very creative and well put and jeffrey dean morgan is H-O-T!!! but i will have to say i really hate the interns this season they are soo annoying and very irritating i mean i really like lexie but the way there cutting themselves and giving ivs to each other i mean thats just way to over the top and no hospital would ever allow that so i think that over the top storyline should definatley end soon.

I was really hoping you would mention the lack of George here as this is something many people have complained about, but no such luck.
Really. Do none of the critics care about George that they don't care at all about his lack of screen time? Because a lot of fans do.
I am really upset about this and looked forward for days to this round table hoping you would mention this but no.

Didn't one of the mods here say she would address the dropping of the Gizzie friendship? I am still waiting on that.

First of all--
WHERE IS GEORGE ?????????????????????
November 16th, 2008 9:39 PM
Sorry about the shouting, but really?
November 16th, 2008 9:47 PM
As for the rest--
I hate to say it, because I don't know where there going with it, maybe craziness (I seriously hope not on that one) or brain tumor or whatever, and I know it's setting up for KH to possibly leave the show, which I would HATE, BUT I have to admit that I am soaking up the Denny and Izzie moments!! JDM is amazing! And they have so much chemistry. Now, why can't he just be alive? Why'd you have to go and make him all dead... can't the writers unwrite?
As for Sadie-- I'm on the fence. She didn't impress me, if that's the question. But I didn't hate her either. I think she'll be good for Cristina to realize where she's sometimes in MerDer's bed maybe a bit too much (don't get me wrong, I love Mer & Cristina together, but she has been stamping all over Der lately and Mer's been letting her!!). Sadie could be eye-opening for Cristina.
Honestly, I really don't want a lot more MerDer drama this season, but I do want to see some evidence that they are a couple!!! Hot scenes, please!!!
As for littleSloan and littleGrey, I don't think Sloan will go there, but I think we'll see another great relationship of sorts grown between those two. I really like Callie and Sloan's relationship lately-- and I hadn't before.
Oh, and to sum up here...
Where is George?????????????????
George could be helping Izzie!

WHERE IS GEORGE? I WANT HIM BACK!
