I hear ABC fired Brooke after they were a ton of angry calls after they showed Callica in bed. They got scared of the homophobes.
This isn't Shonda's show. It is the ABC and TWOP fans show. They got Gizzie to end because they couldn't stand the gay actor getting to kiss the hot girl, especially since they didn't think he was hot enough, and they hated Callica because they were a gay couple and didn't find Hahn hot enough. TWOP and ABC, the two favorite sites of ABC, filled with shallow homophobic people. They run the show. Next target on their list that nasty TR and all his gayness. They already got Shonda to backburner him and leave him without a romantic interest. He will have less and less scenes till everyone forgets him and he vanishes off the show. I can bet on it.
So you guys will have your safe (although a bit abusive) merDer and AI, prediactable (boring) but safe coupel where the hot guy is tough with the hot lady, a real tough hot man who looks good in a wife ebater with his little lady that brings out the good in him, and nothing will ever change. All the couples will be on the same model, all the guys and girls will be hot and size 2 and all the shallow homophobic people down there will rejoice.
This show and its fans disgust me.

I don't think they portrayed the Hahn/Torres relationship as anything anywhere *near* real - no matter what Shonda's said about doing "research" - so it's no wonder the relationship ended before it began.
It came across as strained and hard to watch because it HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW IT REALLY IS BETWEEN TWO WOMEN, whether they start out gay or not. Even the dead could see that! It could have been written so much better, and the only reason I can think of for why it wasn't is homophobia. Oh, hell, not even something as broad as that. Let's call it FEAR OF DYKES.
I guess the thing I find so amusing (and by "amusing," I mean not funny at all) is what Shonda said about not firing Brooke because she was a lesbian, claiming, lookie right here, Grey's *does* have a lesbian character: Callie Torres. Oh, fercryinoutloud, if Callie's a lesbian, I'll eat my rainbow flag.
C'mon, Shonda. If you're going to make excuses for canning Smith because her character's gay, at least stick to "no chemistry between characters," "different story lines", or other excuses that are remotely believeable. Hey, I know. How about "sponsors threatened to pull ads?"
In the end, I feel the worst for Brooke Smith. She's a fabulous actress, hot to boot, and I hope she finds work soon someplace other than ABC; someplace where she can turn and flip 'em the bird.
Even though it's probably much too late to be effective (since Smith was let go in mid-September, before the season premiere even aired) I think we should all send envelopes full of LEAVES to ABC. Mailing address is in Burbank. Google and you'll find it.

What a waste of talent!!! Smith is a fantastic actress and I love that Erica is so different from all of the other characters on the show. ABC is making a big mistake here. It is obvious that they are afraid of the lesbian theme- niether Erica or Callie present as lesbians but rather 2 women who are "exploring" the idea of being lesbiens- this just feeds the right wing radicals who think being gay is a choice! I am very dissapointed in ABC- I wish Smith the best and hope she realizes that this has everything to do with ABC's homophobia and nothing to do with her acting. Shame on Shonda too for not fighting for such a great character!
At the moment i am a season behined as i live in the UK, and i was really enjoying season four unitil i heard about Brookes departure. Brooke Smith will be a great loss to the show, i didn't realize ABC was such a Mickey mouse channel, i am going back to watch ER when season four ends at least they have the sense to finish what they start. i hope Grey's Anatomy loses even more ratings now so that they can learn a lesson, and then Brooke can have the last laugh :0) because from what i ve watched so far Brooke and sara have great chemistry togaether and its sadens me how they have treated Brooke as the actress and the charters on the show its 2008, times has changed, so ABC needs to show this?

This is a very sad day. The Callica storyline was THE most honest depiction of an emerging same-sex interest. And the network did not give Brooke's character much opportunity to create the chemistry that they say they wanted. Everything was taken from Callie's point of view, and the second Erica showed an ounce of real feeling, they fired Brooke. Very disappointing. Brooke is one of my favorite actresses, and I do hope that she lands another opportunity soon. I will watch whatever she appears on. Sadly, this will be my last night watching Grey's.

The first time I watched Grey's was purely out of bordem. I loved the hard, steely character of Erica Hahn in Season 4, and decided that I would LOVE to be a super bitch like her. Now that my super bitch is gone, my reason to watch is also gone.
Sadly, that's not even the main reason I am boycotting Grey's - I will not support an organization that is so blatantly homophobic.
I really do hope that TR Knight takes a stand against this. I also hope that the rumors about Sara immediately quitting and thus departing in 5.15/16 are true...if I were in her shoes, I could not see myself sticking around with a show that royally screwed over a castmate, friend, my own plotline, and a community that I support.

This is soooo messed up. I thought we were moving beyond the whole homophobic BS. My hat was off to Greys for putting so much work into this storyline, it was so refreshing, it made me smile.Somebody definately lost their balls in the process though. I am so angry about this, Erica was one of my favorite characters, and her and Callies new relationshop gave me reason to watch every week. They were so cute together. My daughter and I couldn't wait, week to week to see what would happen next. I thought Greys was dealing with it well, starting it off with those nervous, awkward moments, so realistic. I loved them, and will miss seeing what would have happened with these two. Very sad, and I don't think I want to watch it anymore. You dont have to be gay to appreciate the innocense, the beauty of this relationship, they made me smile every week.
