  1. Nikki Says:

This is HORRIBLE!!! I read it last night on afterellen.com and I had to read the headline three times to make sure I read it correctly. I'm still in shock. Brooke was the main reason I got into Grey's last season. I hadn't watched any of it until I caught one episode last season when Kate came back and I saw Brooke was on and from there started watching. Then the Callica relationship started and I was hooked I had to continue watching. This is just more homophobic shit from ABC, I mean it is 2008 get with the times, grow up, get a pair and bring Brooke back. I mean ok if the couple isn't working then you end the relationship, you don't fire the actress, I mean really. They said they didn;t like the character, that's total crap, if they didn't like the character then they wouldn't have invited her and hired her as a regular on the show from her previous guest spots. Its just total total crap and I am sooooo pissed. Last week when I saw the previews for this week I got really excited cause Erica would find out what Izzie did 3 years ago with the heart she was supposed to take and it was going to be good, but now I don't want to watch Thursday I am not excited to watch Thursday, I don't want to see Brooke go. I don't know if I will continue to watch now.

  2. Stephanie Says:

I am sorry, but the Callica story line was BAD. The whole thing was unbelieveable. Callie going to Mark for oral "pointers" was pathetic. A woman should know a woman's body. The ick factor was huge, and not from a homophobic stand point, but from the whole awkwardness of Callie. I was very happy to hear they are ending the story line.

That being said, Brooke Smith is awesome, and I loved her mysterious bitchiness. She should not have been let go. Why not break up the two? Why let Brook go?

I have a love hate feeling for T.R. I commend T.R. for coming out and being strong, but I still mourn for IW. It seems wrong that people can lose a career in saying something in the heat of the moment. All actors have fights with co-workers. People work through it.

I just think that the situation was over the top and the fact that T.R. is still there really irks me. I want them BOTH there.

  3. greysaddiction Says:

Modiner-- I agree 100% with you on the matter--
"Yikes! I did not like Erica and Callie together for sure, I agree there was no chemestry. But I did enjoy the bitchy drama that Erica brought to the show. I feel sorry for Brooke Smith to be blind sided like that.

What's this about TR no being believable as a hetro chatacter??? I think he is great. I never knew he was gay until the press blew up that story with IW running his mouth. Even still, he does a great job. Where can we vote on this? :)"

Shonda and network need to answer all the why's about firing Brooke Smith, I think. Doesn't make sense. Why not just dissolve the lesbian relationship if that's the issue? Or what really is the issue?

If there's any danger to T.R. please tell us where to cast our vote! George is one of my most favorite characters!!!

  4. Baylor Says:

    Umm, Shonda's statement is bull!

First of all, Callie is not a lesbian - she's bisexual.

Secondly, ABC's "cold feet" are starting to seem more like homophobia - especially now that Melissa George's character will no longer be lesbian/bisexual.

  5. Baylor Says:

Where did ABC's cajones disappear to?

Whats amatter? Did the scary Christian Coalition get all pissy?

  6. Allison Says:

To preface, I'm a huge gay-rights supporter, and am dismayed at some of the homophobic comments popping up on message boards.

That said, I hated their storyline - for purely plot and character reasons. I never got attached to Erica. One minute she's super harsh and unfeeling, the next she's all silly. She was a poor replacement for Burke, who (though I agree with the actor's axing) had interesting backstory and emotions.

Grey's insisted on making their relationship more explicit than other couples'... Yes, all the characters on the show have sex. But I don't hear details about what exactly it is Meredith does to McDreamy in the sack, or what it feels like for Izzie beyond "it was great." You know? Also, the whole Sloan thing just showed that Callie didn't respect this relationship as a "real" thing - I bet you she wouldn't have been as ok practicing with Sloan if she was with another guy.

I love Kevin and Scotty on Brothers and Sisters - on that show, writers treat their relationship like any other sibling's... they have issues, but they're both everyday couple issues and gay-specific topics. They fall into the background much of the time, because, well, they're normal.

  7. Veli Ogla Sungutay Says:

Yes I agree with those cancelling the character. Great acting but the character was really pushing me away and it's not about her being a lesbian.

Now who will be our new head of cardiac surgery?

  8. Kelly Says:

IW did more than talk in the heat of the moment, he lied after at the Golden Globes and said he ahd never sued thwe word when he did. Tat is why he was fired. TR hadn't even spoken up about the incident until IW denied the whole thing and Katie got mad. TR had to set the record straight and it was the one and only time he talked about it. IW on the other hand wouldn't shut up about it and kept calling TR names and bashing PD. Rumors surfaced that everyone, including Sandra, hated IW and he was a total diva on the set treating people like crap. He got the police called on a set 10 years before because he threw a chair at a female exec. This was not his first offense and then he made fun of PD for being dyslexic.

TR was a class act and never demanded he be fired. I am beyond annoyed that some people blame him for this.

If TR is in any danger please let us know. He is my very favorite and I would fight tooth and nail for him.

  9. Grafl Locker Says:

First thing I want to say Erica wasn't my favourite character, but they can't just kick her from the show.

Second: If they would kick TR now, it would be the biggest mistake they would do, because then people would just gave up the show and switch the channel. No, they do it like this, they first just reduce his screentime, later he won't be seen in every episode anymore and then when nobody recognise he just will disappear.

And all this because they forgot that we live in the 21st century.

  10. jeenny Says:

this is bull! I loved Hahn and I think her character was suppose to be more professional and hardcore than the rest of the bunch. who the hell wants to see a show about rainbows and bunnies? just because some doesn't think there is chemistry between two characters, doesn't mean you fire one of them! OH MY GOD, you find them somebody else. besides, I thought Callica had amazing chemistry, but Shonda's gay panic- storyline screwed it up. I don't know if I'm going to bother watching this show anymore, which is sad, because it used to be so good. I watched from day one and loved it, but without Isaiah Washington, Kate Walsh and now Brooke Smith, I am not sure if I'm going to anymore.

  11. Zooz Says:

this is so unfair...she was so good on greys...i mean without even a good reason, they shouldnt have done this

  12. Mern-dub Says:

Wow well this is very shocking and sad! Here I was super excited about having voted today and now this just ruined my joyful mood. I am so bummed! It is such a shame that they are not going to do justice to the storyline of Callie and Erica and atleast end it in a respectful manner. I really enjoyed watching this storyline evolve and now it has been killed suddenly. This is very heart breaking. I'm so disappointed in the homophobia that seems to be running ABC execs. I don't know if I can bring myself to watch this weeks episode.
    Somebody pinch me....please!!!

  13. Ana Says:

    Sooo disappointed!
I actually think the problem is not the gay matter. There are other wonderful shows with gay couples... This sounds more like someone on ABC doesn't like Brooke... Otherwise, why a sudden brake and kick??

  14. Diana Says:

Why ABC fired Brooke Smith? She's the best.Change the story line between Erica and Callie if they don't like together as a couple. But don't fired her from the show.
I like a lot Brooke Smith and her character too.

  15. anuflas Says:

I read this yesterday and may I say, I was beyond angry. Truth is that I never really liked Erica but I liked that tough bitchiness she brought to the show.

The Callica thing was a very complicated subject to board and clearly, this didn't fit well with a lot of people. I think Grey's did the best they could but apparently it wasn't enough.

It's hard not to look at ABC's decision as homophobic given Erica's revelation last week. If they didn't like the character, they could've changed her storyline or whatever, not fired her. It's unfair.

And please, STOP getting Gizzie in the middle of it. That it's another story.

Also, I read that now the next one leaving is Callie after episode 15/16...again, wtf?

  16. bghonciuc@yahoo.com Says:

Oh my god, that is upsetting indeed. And stupid. Instead of going forward, America keeps making one forward and then two backwards.

Brooke Smith and her charater were a valuable addition, welcomed by so many fans. Eliminating Erica Hahn from the show is a huge mistake.

  17. bghonciuc@yahoo.com Says:

(one step, even. I am so angry that I can't even write properly)

  18. Lexie Says:

Even if you don't like Erica or hated Callica you all have to admit being called into the office and told 'You did really well today but the next episode will be your last. Sorry.' Is wrong. I thought Callie and Erica where great togther, but whatever ABC thought was wrong with the storyline has nothing to do with Brooke Smith she can only act what is infront on her.

    This sucks!! :(

  20. david Says:

wow. im shocked and sad. i did not see this comming. i was LOVING the relationship between Callie and Erica. this was the first time (recently) a lesbian couple on network tv. the last lesbian couple that i remember was long ago on Buffy between Willow and Tara. all i see is gay male couples, Andrews short relationship from Desperate Housewives, Marcs umm so called relationship with Cliff on Ugly Betty, and Kevin from Bros and Sis. Why is so wrong for a lesbian couple on tv?
I feel bad for Brooke Smith. what away to say goodbye. and her last time playing Erica is this thursday?! I was looking forward to Erica and Callie together. so much for that.

  21. kim Says:

I can't believe they are doing this. Complete homophobia and it's absolutely rediculous. I am heterosexual, straight, and CHRISTIAN and I think we, as a country, REALLY need to get over this rediculous-ness and realize that gay folks are real people, too! That's a huge crock if they are saying it's not because she portrays a lesbian on the show. Shame on ABC!!

  22. LaraDutta Says:

I was never a fan of Erica Hahn, but I don't agree with how ABC treated Brooke Smith. If they weren't a fan of the Callica storyline, couldn't they just dropped the whole story? Why didn't they write Brooke Smith out, instead of just dropping her? Í don't think this is how she deserves to be treated. I'm telling you, there is more to this story then we know. I think we will never know the truth.

  23. greydaze Says:

Seriously people, it's a show - a fictional show. There are going to be changes, characters we don't like or do like, story lines we love, some we hate. We have the choice - don't watch it if you don't like what's going on, but be mature enough to not "hate" on writers or actors or networks, and mature enough to allow viewers to give an opinion of what they like or don't like.

  24. Meredith Gray Says:

    Well this was a shocker...

I'm actually glad about this... to me, Erica Hahn didn't add anything to the show. Personally, I found the Callica relationship to be repulsive. Call me whatever you want, that's just my opinion.

But all I really care about is MerDer and the intern that's coming in. I've heard Mer and this intern might kiss on screen. Anything to ruin the happy-ever-after, right?

    I can't wait for Thursday!

  25. Marie-Eve Says:

Gizzie was dropped due from pressure to ABC and I do know many people sauid they had problem with Gizize once they learned TR was gay. I read that a whole lot, so yeah it does relate very closely.

I just read on another site TR got sick after learning about Brooke firing hence the lack of screentime for him last episode:
More Cast Shakeups At ABC's Cash Cow?

Rumors abound that Sara Ramirez (Callie Torres) will not be completing a full season of Grey's Anatomy this year.

Rumors began to swirl when Ramirez was spotted in NYC looking at apartments this past weekend and the sudden termination of Brooke Smith, one half of the Callica couple (Callie/Erica), only adds to the mystique surrounding what is really going on over at ABC.

A source who is close to the actress would only say, "Sara really supports the gay and lesbian communities so she's not really happy by what has gone on. She was extremely close to Brooke Smith, so close in fact, that she has spent a lot of time with Brooke's children. (Smith has a five year old daughter and a newly adopted baby girl from Ethiopia)."

Sources close to the set claim that T.R. Knight, a homosexual man who has felt the sting of workplace adversity, was so angered by Brooke's firing that he became too ill to complete the filming of the then current episode. Sly watchers will notice that Knight's 'George O'Malley' character was rarely seen in the episode called 'Life During Wartime'. Evidence suggests that it was during the filming of this episode that the cast and crew found out that Brooke was being terminated.

While it has not been implicitly confirmed that the decision to terminate Brooke Smith came down from the ABC execs, in an interview with Michael Ausiello, Smith seemed to imply that Shonda was not happy with the decision. Shrouded by a thin veil, the goings on behind the scenes at Grey's Anatomy seem to play out in the public eye more often than not. (Most recently was Isaiah Washington's derogatory slur and Heigl's anger at the writing for her character: Izzie Stevens).

With no official word from Shonda beyond stating that Smith's termination was not due to the fact that she was playing a lesbian, fans are understandably jarred. Perhaps the person who needs to be the most worried, however, is Sara Ramirez. In the same press release, Rhimes said that Ramirez's character - Calliope Torres - is the show's lesbian.

We see what happened to the last lesbian, Ms. Rhimes.

It's no wonder Sara Ramirez is apartment shopping on the other side of the country. Run from the madness, Lady of the Lake, and submerge yourself once again in the welcome waters of Broadway. Perhaps they will appreciate you more there.
