Grey's Anatomy to Return October 9

A quick Grey's Anatomy spoiler / news items from Kristin at E! Online ...

Q: I have a weird question: Why is the next new episode of Grey's Anatomy, "Here Comes the Flood," airing in two weeks? Is it because of the two-hour premiere? How about some scoop on that episode? Maybe the reason why the flood started and what will it do?

A: Grey's Anatomy is off this week because of the good ol' American election campaign: the vice-presidential debate is this Thursday night. Most major networks will preempt their regular programming for Biden vs. Palin. As for the flood, it's caused by a good ol' plumbing leak.

Callie: I guess this makes us virgins, doesn't it.
Erica: I guess in a way it does!
Callie: Vir-gins. Hey, we can be scared together!
Erica: Kinda virgins. And we can be scared together.

Alex: Did she tell you that I cried? Because THAT is a lie.

Meredith: [narrating] Once upon a time, happier ever after. The stories we tell are the stuff of dreams. Fairy tales don't come true. Reality is much stormier. Much murkier. Much scarier.

Working Overtime
Richard: Am I to understand you stole these traumas from Mercy West.
Miranda: I don't know what'cha talkin' about.
Richard: Good job. 'Cause now it's personal.

Richard: With a pen!? You trach'd this guy with an ink pen?
Owen: So?
Cristina: Pen? Trach? Hot!

Izzie: See? I told you I would show you my dress.
Denny: You look better than a bride.

Cristina: I think you and Derek will make it. You will make it work.
Meredith: Are you just telling me what I wanna hear?
Cristina: I'm your person. I am on your side.

Chandra Wilson Talks Grey's Anatomy

The doctors on Grey’s Anatomy take their jobs seriously.

Just ask Dr. Miranda Bailey ... also known as Chandra Wilson.

“The entire cast have all been working hard cranking out 14-hour days,” says Wilson. “It’s a very driven forward motion that the whole show is going into and everyone is on the same page with that. The end result is, this season has some wonderful medical cases in it, a lot like what you were used to in our first and second seasons.”

But they’ll be plenty of new changes at Seattle Grace as well – such as the many exciting guest appearances this season, namely Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt) and Bernadette Peters, both of whom made quite an impression in the Season 5 premiere.

Chandra Wilson: Emmy Favorite?

“Our guest cast this time around packs a really great punch,” said Wilson, who was just nominated for an Emmy Award for her role for the fourth straight season.

As for Miranda Bailey, her marriage is still in shambles.

“She’ll get around to working on her marriage,” Wilson said. “You just have to let everything run its course.” On the work front, she says “we’ll see Dr. Bailey really trying to show her competence as a surgeon, proving why she’s chief resident.”

Melissa George to Play Spoiler For Callie-Erica?

The relationship between Callie and Erica took a back seat for much of this week's premiere, but the exchange at the end hinted at good things to come.

That is, unless a certain ex-Alias vixen has something to say about it.

Melissa George is in final negotiations to join the Grey's Anatomy cast as an intern with, an, um open mind. Or so Entertainment Weekly reports.

Melissa George

Michael Ausiello indicates that she's being groomed as a love interest for either Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) or Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith).

Rumor has it that Shonda Rhimes was so enamored with Melissa George that she tweaked her initial plans for the role - which reportedly involved her being a patient in just one episode.

It will be interesting to see if this has long-term potential.

The probable hiring caps a busy couple of weeks for Grey's Anatomy casting department - The L Word's Janina Gavankar and newcomer Brandon Scott will both be new interns and Battlestar Galactica's inimitable Mary McDonnell is on board, too.

Ellen Pompeo Breaks For Lunch

With the Season Five premiere behind her, Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo was spotted headed to lunch with a friend in Los Feliz, Calif., on Thursday. See below ...

We love her. Thought's on Ellen Pompeo's attire?

Grey's Anatomy Ratings Dominate Thursday

Not that it matters to you, since you watch it anyway, but it's interesting to see that the Grey's Anatomy Season 5 premiere was a powerhouse in terms of national viewing.

It helped that CSI hasn't debuted yet (it will square off against its old nemesis Grey's Anatomy October 9), but Grey's dominated last Thursday night's ratings.

According to Nielsen data, "Dream a Little Dream of Me" had 18.3 million viewers in its two-hour premiere, easily topping last season's average of 14.4 million.

Can You Even Do That?

That's down 12 percent from last fall's 20.9 million premiere, but with DVR usage increasing, Grey's Anatomy should get a huge bump in viewership once those numbers are out, pushing it close or over the 20 million threshold. Good to see the show deliver on the hype!

Shonda Rhimes: Watch What Happens

Shonda Rhimes speaks! The Grey's Anatomy creator and executive producer posted some thoughts on last night's premiere on her official blog. But basically, she's content letting this terrific episode speak for itself - and telling us we ain't seen nothin' yet ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So Derek got dead, Mer and Cristina got old together, and Izzie showed Denny her prom dress.
Such is the stuff of dreams.  Which was kind of my theme. For this episode.  And this season. Dreams. And whether or not they come true.
This is Season Five, people.
We, the writers, we call it our all in, go for broke season. We’re like the Chief – the bar has been raised and we’re the ones raising it. For us, Grey's Anatomy is new again. Full of chances and possibilities. Our characters are new again, starting fresh. We’re hopeful again.
Rhimes, S
And we’re enjoying being hopeful. All the rules are changing.
I know you are wondering, “Okay, what does this mean?” And I could tell you. But I’d rather you watch and see for yourselves.
