Ellen Pompeo Speaks at Fundraiser

Grey's Anatomy stars Ellen Pompeo and Justin Chambers attended a fundraiser sponsored by the Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council of the Democratic Committee (GLLC) in Seattle this weekend for Presidential hopeful and U.S. Sen. Barack Obama.

Ellen Pompeo talked about her heritage and wanting to bring the U.S. back to the ideals embraced by her Italian-American ancestors. She acknowledged that being a celebrity campaigning for candidates and causes makes some people - herself included - a bit uncomfortable, but feels strongly about this one.

She also told the gay audience about her two gay uncles and how happy she is that they can marry in her native Massachusetts after all this time. California has since legalized gay marriage as well, prompting rumors that Ellen's Grey's Anatomy co-star T.R. Knight may wed soon (he says don't hold your breath).

Justin Chambers then gave brief remarks about being the father of five children and his increasing concern for the world now and in his children’s future.

Regardless of how you feel about Barack Obama, it's always nice to get some Ellen Pompeo news, as she generally stays pretty clear of the limelight.

T.R. Knight Shoots Down Wedding Rumors

T.R. Knight is thrilled his pal Ellen DeGeneres married Portia de Rossi this weekend, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be the next celebrity to say "I do" at a same-sex wedding - now legal in his home state of California.

"I'm happy for them," T.R. Knight told E! Online at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation's Hot in Hollywood Awards Saturday at the L.A. nightclub Avalon, adding, "I'm very happy that we can talk about this subject ... very, very happy."

While the Grey's Anatomy star was quick to say he and his boyfriend, Mark Cornelsen, aren't planning a wedding "right now," he did beam about a recent benchmark he and Mark - who have dated since January - attained:

"We celebrated a little over eight months though!"

No word on whether they're serious about adoption, which has been reported recently. Either way, we're just happy as long as T.R. is.

What's to become of his character, George O'Malley, this fall?

Unfortunately for spoiler-seekers like ourselves, when it came time to talk about the fifth season of Grey's Anatomy, T.R. Knight was tight-lipped.

"They'll kill me," he said. "You don't understand. There's a room they take us into."

Shonda Rhimes Campaigns For Change

In her own way, each and every day.

According to one site's list of 20 Celebrities Who Are Serious About Changing the World, the Grey’s Anatomy creator and executive producer came in at #4.

While many celebs are more talk than action, Shonda Rhimes' work remains both influential and committed to a better world. The write-up says:

"While many high-profile celebrities advocate for causes abroad, Shonda Rhimes has been steadily working here in the US. Rhimes, the creator, producer and writer for the hit TV series Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, has racked up a shelf-load of GLAAD Media Awards and NAACP Image Awards (not to mention Emmys and Golden Globes) for her progressive portrayals of race and sexuality in the fictional Seattle Grace hospital."

Rhimes

Shonda Rhimes was bested only by U2 singer Bono, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and Brangelina (apparently that's one person, not two).

Patrick Dempsey Continues Support of Cancer Research

Janet Rigdon and the South Carolina Ovarian Cancer Foundation are sponsoring the 2nd Annual Handbags of Hope campaign, featuring an evening of fun, food and over a hundred handbags donated by celebrities to be auctioned off.

Available at the August 21 event will be handbags signed by 20 different celebrities, including Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey.

All proceeds go to benefit the South Carolina Ovarian Cancer Foundation and its mission to educate and support women and cancer research.

This is not Patrick's first foray into charitable giving for cancer-related causes. His mother successfully overcame ovarian cancer, and earlier this year, the Grey's Anatomy hunk helped found the Central Maine Cancer Center in his home state.

Katherine Heigl is Hot in Hollywood

The beautiful and controversial Katherine Heigl stepped out on Saturday to support her Grey's Anatomy co-star T.R. Knight, who was set to perform at the 3rd annual Hot in Hollywood fund-raiser at Hollywood hot spot Avalon.

T.R.'s boyfriend Mark Cornelsen was also on hand, of course.

Hot in Hollywood

When asked how she the suntan she was sporting at the event, Katherine Heigl laughed, saying, "I have a lot of free time."

This is true. Grey's Anatomy is still more than a month off!

When asked if he and Mark Cornelsen were planning a wedding anytime soon, TR Knight simply smiled and replied, "I'm very happy that you can ask that question. Very, very happy. And I hope it gets asked a lot."

Knight also laughed away the idea that Katherine Heigl might be killed off following her criticism of her character's story line last season. "Yeah, George is going to kill her," he cracked. "No, no. That's gossip."

Minor Grey's Anatomy Gossip From EW

TV sleuth Michael Ausiello has a little tidbit about Grey's Anatomy in his weekly news and spoiler report from across the TV landscape. Nothing great, but any news - no matter how small - is appreciated during the summer!

Q: Please, any new scoop from Grey's Anatomy?

A: The green-eyed monster has once again reared its ugly head on the show's set, but this time it's not salary drama or spin-off envy fueling the rancor: It's those lucky bastards in dermatology! An upcoming episode will find some of our favorite residents wandering over to Seattle Grace's never-before-seen dermatology department - and they will not be happy with what they find. Namely, the kind of posh work environment more consistent with a five-star spa than a hospital.

Sandra Oh to Guest Star on ...

... Sesame Street! See that one coming?

Even if you feel like you’re too old for the long-running kids show, you aren't - especially if Grey's Anatomy's Sandra Oh makes an appearance (date TBD).

A Sandra Oh Photo

Other notable guest stars for the 39th season of Sesame Street include Neil Patrick Harris, Will Arnett, Feist, LL Cool J, Johah Hill, Molly Shannon and Jessica Alba. Fellow Grey's Anatomy star T.R. Knight has appeared in the past!

Grey's Anatomy Season Five Cast Pictures

These Grey's Anatomy cast photos were actually taken in Season Four, upon the additions of Brooke Smith (Erica Hahn) and Chyler Leigh (Lexie Grey).

But since they're pretty cool, and still pertinent, and we don't believe we've posted them yet (although you may have seen them before), here you go:

Our Grey's Anatomy Wish List For Season Five

It's hard to believe Grey's Anatomy is entering its fifth season next month. In honor of this much-anticipated, make-or-break fifth campaign, we've put together five things we're hoping for when the Grey's Anatomy cast returns September 25 ...

  1. MerDer love. Not MerDer angst. Further elaboration unnecessary.
  2. Happiness for The Chief. We know Chief Webber (James Pickens, Jr.) is more of a supporting character, but his on-again, off-again tribulations with Adele make no sense. Let's have them stay together, be happy and just ... carry on.
  3. A Cristina Yang love interest. Regardless of how you feel about Isaiah Washington, the show has not been the same without Preston Burke. While no one could replace that man, a new love interest for Cristina would be a welcome this year, as Yang finally tries to put the past behind her.
  4. A spectacular Izzie flameout. We heart Izzie, and certainly don't wish our girl any harm. But we're getting a wee bit tired of see this terrific character reduced to whining and treading water emotionally. Note to producers - give her something interesting to do, or get rid of her in style!
  5. More Alex back story! The finale of Season Four gave us more of a glimpse into the mind of Alex Karev than we've had in... well, four whole seasons. We hope the scene pictured below is the gateway to more interesting revelations about a young doctor whose personal life - and background - is still the least known.
