ABC Sort of Denies Plans to Kill Off Heigl

Rumors have been running rampant about star Katherine Heigl's departure from Grey's Anatomy. The most prevalent theory, bolstered by news of Jeffrey Dean Morgan's return to Grey's Anatomy, revolves around Izzie contracting a brain tumor.

Yesterday, ABC entertainment president Steve McPherson commented briefly on the subject of Heigl's future, and while he said that Izzie isn't going anywhere, reading between the lines a bit reveals some awfully ambiguous statements.

According to McPherson, Katherine Heigl is still very much in the mix with Grey's Anatomy, and Izzie Stevens won't be offed anytime soon.

In fact, he promised the following:

"Katherine is absolutely staying with the show. She has an unbelievable storyline this year, which is central to everything going on this season. Shonda Rhimes is really excited about that; she’s the one who actually crafted that."

Sad Eyes

McPherson tried to brush the recent controversy Katherine Heigl stirred up when she withdrew her name from consideration for the Emmy Awards.

"She is a fantastically talented actress," he said. "I think it’s unfortunate when there’s any kind of turmoil on the show. There are so many people who work so unbelievably hard to make that show; we have the No. 1 show in the country. I think it’s a beautifully written, beautifully acted, beautifully produced... Everyone from the grips to the writers to the executive producers, I think deserves an enormous amount of credit."

All in all, he's told us nothing, but made it sound good and certainly got us wondering what's to come in Season Five of Grey's Anatomy.

Guess that's why he makes the big bucks!

Finally, when asked for comment on the matter, Grey's Anatomy co-star Eric Dane said of Katherine Heigl: "She's a great girl, very professional, she likes her job and I don't think Shonda has any intentions of killing her off."

ok. katherine heigl has to stay for at least for this season. she said that the material she got last season wasn't up to par, but season 4 was a messed up season because of the writers' strike. so they can give izzie a brain tumor this season, that's fine but they have to keep her on the show

I'm done with the whole Izzie mess.. Heigle honestly isn't all that talented and her character has become a disaster. It's only a matter of time before she's off the show but rather than a brain tumor here's my idea - Have Izzie's daughter come in needing some sort of transplant that only Izzie can give her. The transplant is very risky for both involved and after much deliberation, Izzie decides to go forward and during the procedure Izzie dies and daughter lives. And guess who's there to welcome her to the other side! Denny!!

Story works for everyone... Izzie is off the show and we don't have to deal with her anymore, she can go on to make more movies, guest appearances for two actors and we fans get to oogle over the gorgeous Jeffrey Dean Morgan. :)

I think Katherine should stop whining about her not having a good role this season, as I think all the characters didn't have much of a great role this season due to the strike and all.

This has nothing to do with Katherine Heigl, but I think Rose is pregnant in the 5th season. I remember reading something saying that since Derek and Meredith were going to have a good relationship, where would the drama be. Well making Rose pregnant would definitely add heat to the relationship. Or if Callie was pregnant it would add some drama to the love triangle of Callie, Erica, and Mark. It wouldn't really make sense for Meredith to be pregnant.

Why was the show snubbed by the emmys? It's simple, because all this season was a mess (but the season finale)... it wasn't as good as the two previous season... katherine is totally right with what she said, had the writing been good, it would have got a nomination, but it didn't... therefore the writing this season wasn't that good... i don't this is fair to bash her like that...

but in the other hand, the brain tumor storyline would be FANTASTIC. I think katherine has enough talent to pull it off, and it would probably bring the show to season 2's greatness again. I just hope she doesn't die, it would be a terrible mistake and would mark the end of the show (trust me... the oc went downhill when mischa barton got killed off... if they kill of kat, it will be the same scenario). I'm pretty sure the last scene of the season will be izzie in a bed during the surgery, and everyone wondering wheather she dies or not...

im pretty sure whatever KH said was taken out of context and blown out of all proportion. as are most useless controversies the media concocts to sell their product and profit off advertising space.

also, JEG, shonda has specifically said that rose will not be pregnant.

I'm glad some people agree with me, that KH was right, her character did not have an emmy worthy storyline. I think this whole thing is ridiculous. And it's a double standard. Do you honestly believe if a man had said he wasn't going to input his name for Emmy consideration that he would be labled as an opinionated, ungratful bastard? I have never seen such bashing of a woman in my life, all because she spoke her mind. Some people may not like a strong woman voicing her opinion. I think that is pathetic. For those on here who are bashing her, and are women, your comments to tell her to shut up just put the womens movement back 50 years. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Read an article by Mark Harris in this weeks Entertainment Weekly. He talks about this who BS about the "Emmy snub". He said it perfectly. KH, you have a fan in me and if you do leave GA, I will be looking forward to your thriving movie career.

Katherine H was right about what she said. she told the truth and people are up in arms about it. why? if Patrick D said anything like that, people wouldnt care. Izzie this season wasnt that good. the whole George/Izzie/Callie triangle was a complete mess. KH aint going anywhere. I applaud KH for her open mind and being a strong women.
