Grey's Anatomy Writers Fire Back at Heigl
One day after Katherine Heigl announced she would drop out of this year's Emmy race, because Grey's Anatomy did not give her material to warrant a nomination, a key show insider is fighting back against the comment,
Contacting Entertainment Weekly to address the actress' public complaint about the show, the Grey's Anatomy writer/producer was far from pleased:
"The show bent over backwards to accommodate her film schedule, and then she criticizes the show for lack of material? It's an ungrateful slap in the face to the very writers responsible for her Emmy win in the first place."
She made the comments June 12 after the star's name did not appear on the list of Emmy contenders distributed by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
The omission was especially bizarre, considering that Katherine Heigl actually won last year's award for outstanding supporting actress in a drama.
Critics jeered Heigl's performance early in the season, complaining about the romance between her character, Izzie, and George (T.R. Knight).
But the actress shined in Grey's Anatomy's Season Four finale when her character redeemed herself, as well as her career at Seattle Grace.
This isn't the first time Katherine Heigl has publicly criticized the show that helped to make her a household name, as we know.
Last year, she dropped out of salary renegotiations, reportedly because she felt the studio doesn't value her as much as it does her cohorts.
ABC fired back, insisting the Grey's Anatomy star had in fact been offered a substantial raise. Heigl has since received a salary bump.

I find myself increasingly less reluctant to accept the idea of her not being on the show anymore. If she insists on publicly shaming the writers who, up to this point, have done nothing but redefine and elevate her career, she needs to seek support elsewhere... as she'll quickly lose it from a very loyal GA fan base after behavior like this. Has she not learned a lesson from both the actions of Isiah and the advice she personally and publicly dispensed to him about said behavior?
Your scenes are only as good as your method, investment and delivery. If you're unhappy with your performance of supplied material, maybe it is time you looked in the mirror and stopped pointing fingers. You're success can only be attributed to others around you and the opportunities they've afforded you. Please, show some respect... or you might be out of a job.

Your success, rather.

I'm totally on the writers side.. Katherine is pretty ungrateful to them.. that show gave her the fame and limelight she has now.. and this complaining won't help her at all.. she can lose lots of fans with these things..
i guess she just simply wants to get out of her contract, but i don't think that's the right way to do it..
June 13th, 2008 7:25 AM
Ever since Katherine has gotten into movies her ego has grown way too much and she thinks she's too good for Grey's now, which is fine...I certainly wouldn't miss her if she's FIRED, she is simply easily replaceable with another Izzy.
All this whining she is doing is giong to upset people and then they won't be going to see her movies, then she'll come crying back to Shonda. Get rid of her Shonda...if she cannot appreciate all the hard work you have done writing her storyline, the the hell with her!!

Her storyline did suck the latter part of season 3 and early half of season 4. Yes her words were harsh, but true.

Rumor was she wanted out. She just seems to be making it easier for her to be let go. I definitely see it as a slap in the face to the writers -- although, I do concur, her scenes were not as good as earlier seasons.
June 13th, 2008 9:17 AM
Well if she wants out, continually opening her mouth in this manor might just be her ticket out. I think she'd be a fool to leave the show. But hey, if she wants to put out the same old romantic comedies over and over again and be a one trick pony than I say good riddens.
The writers of Grey's have given her some great material but she can't always be the center of the storyline, she needs to learn to share the stories with her other co-stars, and make the best of the material she is given.
June 13th, 2008 9:53 AM
seriously ... i am not gonna miss her if she's fired from grey's .. i missed burke ..but i am not gonna miss her. i can't believe how ungrateful she is to them .. they made changes to suit her schedule and they're the reason she's famous right now .. i used to be a big fan of hers but ever since her movie career became big she can't get over herself...i agree her material wasn't gr8 but she could have made it gr8 if she wanted to .. i remember those rumors about her wanting to leave the show but now i am starting to believe them .. anyway if she continues to speak in public like that she might actually lose her fans .. i hope she doesn't

katherine heigl is a piece of shit.
she is the very example of what an ungreatful and arrogant holier than thou attitude is.
i think grey's anatomy SHOULD let her go, her character is easily one of the most dislikable characters on the show.
this one trick pony ingrate will be eating her words.

I cannot believe that SHE complains about not getting good material. I felt like every episode in the first part centered Izzie and her 'deep' monologues.. If there is anyone who should complain, it's Sandra Oh. Season four was way worse for her, than for Heigl. It's such a shame, because Oh is a great actress. Katherine is getting VERY VERY demanding. It's not Heigl's Anatomy and she has got to let the rest of the cast get some storylines too. Don't you agree?
June 13th, 2008 11:44 AM
I get that maybe she didn't get the best storylines this season, but that doesn't give her the right to slam the show that made her famous in the first place.
June 13th, 2008 11:46 AM
Katherine needs to remember that Grey's is an ensemble cast. She is not the star, not now and never will be. She has been given great material in past seasons ( i.e. her relationship with Denny) which in my opinion gave her career a tremedous boost. She should be thankful to Shonda and the writers. Last season really wasn't so much about her character's development. She set the stage for that by trying to establish a film career. She should be especially grateful to Grey's for supporting her and giving her the time she needed to pursue it. Face it, Katherine, it's time you took a backseat to some of the other actors, especially Sandra Oh, Eric Dane, and Justin Chambers. I bet Shonda has some wonderful story lines ready for these actors and it's time to let them shine!

It could be that she's just being modest?
June 13th, 2008 2:19 PM
I don't really think so that it's about modesty. not at all.
June 13th, 2008 2:51 PM
Is she for real a lot of people had never heard of her before GA. The more she talks the more unlikable she becomes.
June 13th, 2008 3:01 PM
i'm just surprised that the writers and producers were able to control themselves. They could've really let her have it if they wanted to...but they are being more mature than her, which shows CLASS. Katherine obviously does not have that. To talk smack about the writers and the show that put her in the spotlight, that's just wrong. She def needs to have a slice of humble pie.
June 13th, 2008 3:02 PM
She is quickly becoming another annoying/arrogant/egotistical celebrity.
June 13th, 2008 3:41 PM
I always had the impression that Heigl is an arrogant person and now i'm sure. She's so pretentious and to tell you the truth i don't think she deserved that emmy and i think she's the least talented among all the cast. My sister never watched grey's before i was an addict since day 1 so one week she has a grey marathon and watched all 3 seasons then out of the blue she asked me how come heigl won an emmy? i didn't see anything extraordinary in the way she plays her role……….I think if anyone deserves to complain is Ellen and Patrick they're both are amazing actors and they aren't recognised as they should be…………I think if she continues with this attitude the writers should write her off and beleive she won't be missed at all i think in a way she's blackmailing them to do so ‘cose she got the fame she doesn't need the show anymore
June 13th, 2008 5:44 PM
i believe Katherine is being very ungrateful and her ego is getting way too big.. how could she trash talk the show that gave her her fame.. wat a !@#$%
June 13th, 2008 7:17 PM
Personally i see nothing wrong with her not putting her name in for an Emmy and her reason for it. Grey's is a show with lots of charaters. It is hard to give every character a storyline that could be considered emmy worthy every season, and even more so this year with the writer's strike. Katherine never said the material she was given was bad or that she didn't enjoy playing her part as izzie stevens, it simply was not her characters year to shine and that happens. The media are twisting her words and making her look like she is ungrateful. Also going for an Emmy is her business and she owes no one a reason as to why she didn't put her name in this year.
June 13th, 2008 7:40 PM
she should question her acting, a good actor, a great actor can do great acting regardless if of the storyline. Take for example Sandra Oh and her character, i feel she did not have a great storyline this season but when she did have a part she put in great acting. I can't say the same for KH. She's just pissing off the wrong people, and maybe her wish of killing off izzie will happen in season 5.
June 13th, 2008 7:41 PM
its not the fact that she took herself out of the running. its that she insulted the writers of greys. which was the thing that made her a well known actress and got her into all these movies
June 13th, 2008 7:42 PM
five bucks says shes in the news next week saying how they took her words out of context and all other kinds of bullshit just to make amends.
June 13th, 2008 8:03 PM
She needs to shut up. Seriously. I am really starting to wish she wasn't on the show period. She is extremely immature. She didn't deserve the Emmy last year, NO WAY SHE SHOULD HAVE A EMMY BEFORE SANDRA OH. Sorry but true, the best actresses on Grey's are Sandra and Chandra. I like Ellen Pompeo, but those two steal the spotlight everytime. It shouldn't matter how the material is if you are a good actress, Chandra has less of a storyline then her and I still enjoy every minute. She is very ungrateful. The writers of Grey's gave her a career, she needs to show some respect.
