Round Table: "Piece of My Heart"

While fans gather in our forum to discuss each character, couple and plot twist, the Grey's Anatomy Insider staff comes together to talk about the key moments and share their opinions regarding the latest episode of our favorite drama.

We apologize for the delay in posting this episode's Round Table! Our topics for "Piece of My Heart" include Addison awkwardness, Alex's potential parenting prowess, George's dart skills (or lack thereof), and Callie's choice of teams...

1. Who do you think is better at darts, George or Lexie?

McCritic: Lexie. As proven by his affair with Izzie, George is all over the place. I'd hide behind my beer mug if I were seated anywhere in the bar when George O'Malley stepped up to throw.

iheartizzie: George may score big with the ladies (Olivia, Meredith, Callie and Izzie), but sorry, I can't see any bulls-eyes or triple-20s being thrown by the bumbling intern.

missingBurke: Tough call there, but both of their scores should begin to improve once Lexie steals the dartboard for their apartment.

2. Callie says she loves penis. Do you believe her?

iheartizzie: Not entirely. About 40 percent of our poll respondents think she and Erica Hahn would be a good couple. If 40 percent of you can envision girl-on-girl action involving Callie Torres, her love for the cock is at least somewhat in doubt.

McCritic: Yes. Moreover, based on her decision to go home with Mark Sloan at the end of the episode, Callie obviously loves dicks, as well.

missingBurke: I believe Callie. If she harbored any lesbian tendencies, she would have come on to Addison long ago. Much more her type!

Addie and Callie

3. More awkward moment involving Addison: her hug with Meredith, or her interaction with Rose in the OR?

missingBurke: Rose sucks, but I couldn't help feeling a little bad for her when Addison burst out with the question of who Derek's dating. Rose's smart-ass reply effectively dumped gasoline on an already awkward fire.

McCritic: Option C: Anything she does on Private Practice.

iheartizzie: Addison was cool to Mer overall, but that hug showed how one can't fully embrace one's ex-husband's dirty mistress without some level of discomfort.

4. Would Alex Karev make a good father?

McCritic: Not at first. Karev is easily frustrated, prone to emotional outbursts. I can see him dressing down his offspring for spilling peas and carrots all over the table. But Alex also learns from his mistakes. The tyke will break through this doctor's rough exterior and find a place in his heart.

iheartizzie: I think he would actually be very good. Alex Karev remains guarded about his own tough upbringing, but is keenly aware of the problems it has caused. Alex Jr. would definitely be raised much better!

missingBurke: Good... I think. Can we just discuss how disjointed the whole Rebecca / Ava plot line is? She bolts Seattle, then shows up, then leaves, then shows up again and is supposedly pregnant, but really isn't? It all seems a bit thrown together and haphazard. I'd love to know where Shonda is taking this.

Mark Chides Derek

Rose: Dear God, I'm ugly. McDreamy is way to hot for me. I don't deserve him.
Mark: Who needs another slutty nurse? You should drive over Rose with a steamroller!
Derek: Hmmm... that's actually not a bad idea.
Addison: La la la la la!

Stacy McKee on "Piece of My Heart"

The head writer of last week's episode, Stacy McKee, talks about "Piece of My Heart" in great on the show's official writers' blog. Here's what she has to say about last Thursday's terrific Grey's Anatomy episode...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, before I start the blog, I have a confession to make. About the character of Addison: I love her. Not vagina monologue kind of love â€" but love nonetheless.
I love her sense of humor. I love her friendships with Callie and Bailey.
I love how Addison Montgomery has always known exactly how to call Derek out on exactly whatever it is he needs to be called out on.
I love how good she is at her job. I love that she's basically Sloan's McDreamy â€" even if his feelings aren't reciprocated. I love that she loves potato chips.
Back in Seattle
I love that she walks the hospital halls in heels that any normal woman would twist her ankle in... I love Addison. And I love that this was her Grey's Anatomy episode to come back to Seattle Grace for a visit.
The nice thing about bringing Addison back right now is that â€" she's been gone a while. She hasn't been privy to most of the Seattle Grace shenanigans since her departure.
So she's uniquely qualified to walk back through the doors at SGH and call things like she sees them. She can react the way we're all secretly reacting to Derek Christopher Shepherd pining away for someone OTHER than Meredith Grey.
Ellen Pompeo Reflects on Meredith, Grey's Anatomy
The wait is almost over for Meredith and Derek fans, as they will finally reunite (for good!) in the May 22 season finale of Grey's Anatomy.
In preparation for the big day, Entertainment Weekly talked to Ellen Pompeo about the reconciliation, the show's future, and how she lays low when she's done working for the day on Grey's Anatomy.
EW: How did [Grey's Anatomy creator] Shonda Rhimes tell you that Meredith and Derek were getting back together?
Ellen Pompeo: I came in a couple weeks before we were going to go back to work and she invited me in to talk. She pretty much started off by saying she had time over the break to watch the entire series, saw where it started and where it went and where it needs to go now. It helped her get some perspective.
EW: Did she say she made some mistakes?
Ellen Pompeo: This is Hollywood. People don't admit mistakes.
Wonderful and Sweet
Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo shines on- and off-screen.
EW: How did you feel about the Mer-Der reunion?
Ellen Pompeo: I told her to please make it be in a way that makes sense. Don't put us together because the fans want it: so â€" poof! â€" we're together. Please make it make sense. I would have preferred that we really stayed apart for a while and then slowly got back together. I just worry how realistic is it after all of the mess.
EW: How had you been feeling about the relationship?
Ellen Pompeo: You can't really judge characters, because that's when it gets really hard to play them. But sometimes Meredith has made choices and I'm like, Why would she do this? Why would she continue to keep going back to him after that? You gotta try to find a way to do it, but it's not always easy. I would never let a man treat me that way.
EW: When did you start to feel that Mer-Der was becoming repetitive?
Ellen Pompeo: Last season. Season 3 is when the show really started to get a little unfocused with crazy things like Meredith's [failed] suicide, and then George and Izzie. It just sort of seemed like it was all over the place, which it kind of was. I know Shonda was writing Private Practice and her attention was diverted.
Ellen Pompeo Gets Some Exercise
Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo went for a morning jog, then sauntered to Starbucks for a cold drink in Los Angeles on Monday.
The 38-year-old Grey's Anatomy actress wore a white shirt and green Adidas sweat pants. Isn't she just the best? See more photos here.
Justin Chambers: Feeling Better
Grey's Anatomy star Justin Chambers is finally doing better.
"I'm doing really good â€" I'm actually sleeping!" Chambers, 37, who plays Dr. Alex Karev on the ABC hit, told a reporter at the kick-off party for the Butterfly Ball Tuesday at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills.
In January, Chambers voluntarily checked himself in at UCLA Medical Center to get help with a pre-existing sleeping disorder for three days.
These days, "I am really enjoying life," the Grey's Anatomy actor said.
What's helping Justin Chambers (with wife Keisha) settle his life down?
Bikram yoga, which he's been doing for the past two months.
"It is where you sit in a 104-degree room, and you stretch for an hour-and-a- half," he explained. "I swear by it â€" it's incredible."
His wife Keisha Chambers â€" with whom he has five kids â€" has also been a source of support.
"We are going on 14 years," Justin Chambers said. "When we get to 50, we will send you a postcard!"
