If you thought Patrick Dempsey couldn't get any cooler, think again!
Patrick unveiled a cancer center in his name at the Central Maine Medical Center in his hometown of Lewiston, Maine, on Monday.
The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, which opens March 31, will offer education and support for cancer patients and their families.
The handsome Grey's Anatomy star, 42, says he was inspired after his mother successfully overcame ovarian cancer at the hospital.
"For a family to get a cancer diagnosis is devastating, and all the information out there can be overwhelming," the man behind Derek Shepherd said.
"A lot of the Web sites I went to just didn't have enough information."
Patrick Dempsey provided a seed grant for the center and will also take part in the center's public education campaign about cancer prevention and detection.
His sister, Mary, a hospital employee, will run the center.
Dempsey has been married to his lovely wife, Jillian Dempsey, since 1999. They have one-year-old twins, Darby and Sullivan, and a six-year-old daughter, Tallulah.

That is so sweet! He is such a good person for bettering the devastation in which cancer causes for those unfortunate enough to be diagnosed. To see him doing something extremely positive with his fame and hard-earned money makes me think of him as even more dreamier and I respect him the most I ever have. Right on, Patrick!

I read this article today about PD. He is continually doing things that make me love him even more. He is such a great guy. I had not heard until I read this article about him helping with the opening of a cancer center in Maine. It is actually named after him. What a great thing to do for people and helping in his hometown. He is such a caring person. Attached is the article and video. It shows him with his Mom and Sister.

For a family to have the realization of having to deal with cancer is very tragic. i can attest to this personally, after seeing my mom go thru hell & back & knowing the outcome would be fatal,it brings a sense of joy & peace to know that someone we love to watch on telvevision could be so caring & loving & passionate about such a cause.Patrick , I dont know if you read these comments but if you do-i just want to say "i love you "for being such a passionate person& to help such a worthy cause!!
