I have to disagree with the petition. I LOVE every season of Grey's Anatomy, even the dark and twisty stuff. I think it shows that the characters are human and has helped each of the character's to grow as individuals. I agree with Sarah- life is messy and isn't always sunshine and roses. As for Derek and Rose- I do not hate Rose and am o.k. with Derek exploring a new relationship while Meredith gets her life together. What fun would it be if they were always together and never had any problems? I think they will eventually be together again. Also, I don't know why everyone hates Meredith so much. She does not get nearly enough credit. Her character has depth and flaws and is someone a lot of people can probably relate to on some level. Please get over your issues people and let Shonda do her thing.
what annoys me the most is the way people gave valid reasons for derek to move on and date rose. If that is the case then why did shonda even bothered to start building a romance b/w those two since from season 1 if things are going to end like this?
McCritic, just how is it right for a guy to move on in a matter of mins after breaking up with the love of his life? i think derek was looking for an excuse to date rose all along. when he said to her that he was sorry he has to see meredith through, he looked sad. Like meredith was standing in the way.

i agree. i don't know whether it's the writting or the direction or the actor's boredom, but what i saw was derek looking almost desperatelly a way to give up on mer just when she started to make progress, and 4 what? a forced romance taken like from a cheap soap-opera.
of course i pin 4 merder, but i think most people got more upset because they feel deceived. the storyline is too sloppy, like they r bored to write and so they take the easy road and depend on our passion 4 merder to keep us attached

of course everyone has a right to speak his mind but i'd just like to point out that this petition is not about demanding to watch the storylines we want. it's about reacting to being manipulated and disregarded. tv is about give and take b/w the creators and the viewers and u can't treat the second like u underestimate their intelligence, throwing at them mediocre work and depend on their past strong reaction to "similar" storylines(addison) to keep them.
sure we have to depend on shonda to give nice stories 4 grey's, but she also has to depend on viewers to keep airing a show

The reason why the MerDer fans are pissed off is because they were shoved down our throats as meant to be and soulmates and stuff in Season Two. For what? If this is the way it was going to turn out then i see why people are tired. The media has always hated Meredith and now Derek is getting slightly bashed and people can't understand why. He was never McDreamy to me just full of shit. Oh he has a way with words and a certain look that would make your heart melt. But that's it for me. I love Mer and always have but she's always getting slated. Half her family got wiped out, she almost died- she has a lot to deal with. Plus she's getting most of the blame for the MerDer relationship ending. She's a great friend to have and i honestly have not heard her whine that much. I'll still watch the show, can't wait for it to come back actually. But, like always I'll watch for Meredith. Derek and Rose can have their own show called Whatever. Bring back Finn.

greyslover is right. Mer can't seem to grow up. As I said in other comments, Mer doesn't want anything to do with a long term relationship. She knows that they don't work, and she wants Derek so bad that she doesn't want to lose him.
Mer is becoming really annoying, too.
(I want to see Rose hook up with Finn, and Mer hook up with Mark to show Derek that all his loves have ended up with him. That would make things interesting.)

I just signed the petition. Not because I don't like Grey's but because of the direction it's heading in. Shonda keeps giving us hope that the show will get better; characters will grow, well I havn't really seen much of it. Little by little each week I lose interest with the characters, and I'm probably the one of the biggest Grey's fans out there. What really made me realize how disappointed I'm getting with the show, was last episode 4.11 when Mer and Der broke up I didn't shed a tear. Was I upset? Heck yes, but I'm so tired of going back and forth and back and forth and frankly Im used to it so I didn't need to cry anymore.
The petition isn't to yell or give any disrespect towards the writers of the show, frankly just this petition shows how many people care about the show, but it's simply a way to get the writers to hear our voices, because they've yet to be heard. Hopefully this petition will wake them up.

the petition is incredibly stupid. first of all in the beginning of that episode derek wanted to build a house with meredith, live with her, love her, and build a life with her. if anyone needs to change it's meredith, she's not growing. or maybe she is and her growing is moving so slowly that we hardly notice it. anyway she wouldn't be meredith if she weren't that dark. i agree some things need to change, but only with meredith, she can still be dark, but she just needs to grow a little bit.
the show is doing fine, the only thing that's really pissing me off is the writers strike, we can't even watch the show anymore due to the early season finale. so maybe we need to worry about that more.
either way my point is that the people signing the petition need to just let it go, the show is amazing, i love the way bailey's character and story line has developed. george has changed so much and he's learning more, i love hahn added to the mix. christina needs more of a story line but i hear that joshua jackson (total hunk) is going to be her new love interest, but in the last episode she actually did show a different side of her character when she held tuckers hand even though lexie offered to do it. we really need to figure out what's bothering alex, what experiences did he go through? what happened to him? i love that they're adding more depth to his character, they just need to keep the ball rolling and actually tell us what's up with him. and i love lexie, although she needs more of a storyline, i did love how they showed her struggle with her alcoholic father though.
anyways to contrast this whole petition thing and everyone's comments here, i'm just here to say good job on the show to everyone who works on it, and just consider making minor tweaks, not the big changes everyone is asking for.
they're asking for a big romantic love story between merder, but that's not what they're relationship is about, they're struggling, so let them struggle, it wouldn't be as interesting if they were together officially. and that's the whole point of the show, meredith's struggles, and everyone elses. so honestly if you don't like it, don't watch it.

I heard the Ausiello's rerport today with some new spoilers about the show. Seems as if they were writing the next episode when the strike occurred. Cristina will start a relationship with JJ and Cristina will help Mer get over her split with Derek. Seems the split will last a while or until the conclusion of the Rose arc. Lets hope it ends SOON! We need to get rid of Rose and get Mer/Der back together!

I think that there are some serious problems with the show, and it goes beyond anything specific. I think Katherine Heigl said it best when she admitted Gizzie was a ratings ploy. Well, most ratings ploys don't garner LOWER ratings than the show previous. I understand that Grey's is in its fourth season, but CSI which is currently in its EIGHTH season doesn't pull things like that and they are currently beating Grey's in the overall ratings. Don't try to shock me all the time. If I wanted to be shocked and wanted my sensibilities challenged I would watch Criminal Minds (good show by the way).

I think the petition is a good idea if it works or not we have to speak up. The show has gotten way off base. I respect what Katie and Alicia are trying to do. Instead of just sitting back and complaining they are trying to do something constuctive. Right now it's considered the show with the worst writers block. The ratings have been going down pretty steady. If something doesn't happen in season 5 I feel like we might as well say goodbye to our favorite show. Attacking each other with words isn't doing anybody any good. Even some of the fun we use to have on sites like this is slowly disappearing. I think that is really sad.

I totally and completely agree with the petition and signed it the day it was put online. Because although the show is still amazing, it's not what it was in seasons 1&2. It's just not. 4.11 didn't make me cry. At all. I was...bored. =/ Was the Bailey and her son storyline heartbreaking? Absolutely. Was the Mer/Der break-up hard to watch? Definitely. But none of the sad, depressing storylines got to me like others have in seasons 1&2. They've just been sort of....flat lining lately.
Also, everyone needs to stop putting all the blame on Meredith or all the blame on Derek. Because they both screwed up a few times. They are both at fault! They've both hurt each other and it's not right to only blame one of them for their problems.
Derek's dating again. It's not like he just walked out on Mer and decided to flirt with a nurse. It's not like that. They both did things and said things and made their relationship the mess that it is. It took both of them to screw up the relationship and if you want to place blame, fair enough. But it's only fair to place equal blame.
Rose bugs the hell out of me, by the way. I don't think that it's even because I love Mer/Der as much as I do because Rose...isn't really a threat to Meredith and Derek. I mean, the only reason Derek's even interested in her is because she wants all the things Meredith isn't ready for. Derek likes the idea of Rose. He likes that things with her seem so easy and uncomplicated unlike with Meredith. But, to me, if being with someone is that easy and simple...then it's not worth it. The chase is....well, there is none. It's...boring. That's what Derek and Rose would be...boring.
And does she always have to be so happy? No one smiles that much. No ones that happy all...the...time. What about the engagement ring? Who wears their engagement ring around their neck a year after the engagement is over? It's just weird. I'm pretty sure I would hate Rose even if she had nothing to do with Derek...It's just her character....Derek really has nothing to do with it.
Because Lexie flirted with Derek in a bar and I wanted to kill her then but now....she's pretty awesome.
Chyler Leigh (Lexi) got death threats all over the internet last year when she hit on Derek in a bar. Lauren Stamile (Rose) makes out with Derek. She should definitely hire some body gaurds.

Congrats and good for you. I guess it's really easy for some fans to take the roll of apathetic bystander. To tell you, if you don't like what you are watching, don't watch. Well, we've all seen where the apathy gets us all in life. You show that you DO CARE about this show from the heartfelt petition you wrote and the fact that you care this much shows what a fan you are. EW weekly did a mid season report and where the shows stood overall in ratings a cople of weeks ago. Grey's was 5th in ratings based on the whole season so far. Last year at this time, it was first. Fans and critics have been lukewarm at best on this season. Sure, we can all take the stand of "if you don't like it , leave.." and then watch as this once beautiful show becomes one of those crap night time teenage dramas (and folks, it's heading there) So while I don't agree with the whole statement (especially on Meredith, she is not hated, it's just that many have chosen NOT to know the character and just jump on the bashing Mer bandwagon..I do not) I still wholeheartedly support your statement, your passion, the fact that you care, and your petition. I gladly signed and I thank you. Wish more fans were like you-so the show would finally improve in it's lacking quality. FOR ALL YOU MER BASHERS- TRY AND DEFEND DER'S ACTIONS AS THE GOOD GUY!
First I love DER and I really love MER too (loved her on morphine) but please MER has told him time and time again that she has ABANDOMENT issues. (and rightly so-which he is aware of ALL the reasons!)
Let's count how many times HE has abandoned her. (the ones that I remember)
1. Picked ex-wife over her when she sticks her neck out first and tells him she loves him and "pick me, choose me" so cute! Doesn't even go to the bar to explain-just leaves her there drinking all night! MER forgives him!
2. She decides to be "friends with him & share the dog" so that she can hang on to the relationship and has to be friends with ADDI too. Meets someone- He is so jealous that he implies she is a whore and ends the friendship. MER forgives him.
3. Tells her "SHE has a choice to make because when he had a choice to make I chose wrong-I LOVE YOU"- TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED! Then HE decides for HER that Finn is the better guy and ends the relationship again.
4. She tells him she dumped FINN AKA " Well I choose you Derek-how about them apples" HE ignores her….. and sorry I need some time….. not really sure what I want anymore. She is gracious about it, take the time that you need with a smile.
5. As she is recovering from almost DYING/losing her MOTHER, starts to show signs of more confidence, intimacy and communication (even though she was a little smart ass about it)- DER -"I don't know if I can do this any more" "Breathe for you anymore" MER is devastated but comes back and tells DER that the accident has changed her-please stay!
6. Teases her with a weekend away (which I was really wanting to see) (which he could of used to reel her back in) Then he gives her that speech about he loves her, wants to marry her, have kids with her and "I KNOW YOU ARE NOT READY" BUT if someone else comes along soon â€"you might just be out of luck! GIVE ME WHAT I WANT OR I'LL DUMP YOU? Not the most romantic ending to "an I love you speech for your soul mate!"
I think MER'S character is growing and DER'S hasn't. (Not that MER'S character doesn't still have some growing to do) Maybe that is the point of Rose to force DER to Grow too and realize there is only MER for him even if he has to WAIT!
Why doesn't DER go to counseling with FINN/Christiana/IZZIE and try ….
"SHUT UP MER" " I LOVE YOU" and I am not going anywhere no matter what crazy stupid thing you say and give her a MCDREAMY KISS that makes her speechless! We know he has that talent! They both did things and said things and made their relationship the mess that it is. It took both of them to screw up the relationship and if you want to place blame, fair enough. But it's only fair to place equal blame.
Rose bugs the hell out of me, by the way. I don't think that it's even because I love Mer/Der as much as I do because Rose...isn't really a threat to Meredith and Derek. I mean, the only reason Derek's even interested in her is because she wants all the things Meredith isn't ready for. Derek likes the idea of Rose. He likes that things with her seem so easy and uncomplicated unlike with Meredith. But, to me, if being with someone is that easy and simple...then it's not worth it. The chase is....well, there is none. It's...boring. That's what Derek and Rose would be...boring.
And does she always have to be so happy? No one smiles that much. No ones that happy all...the...time. What about the engagement ring? Who wears their engagement ring around their neck a year after the engagement is over? It's just weird. I'm pretty sure I would hate Rose even if she had nothing to do with Derek...It's just her character....Derek really has nothing to do with it.
Because Lexie flirted with Derek in a bar and I wanted to kill her then but now....she's pretty awesome.
Chyler Leigh (Lexi) got death threats all over the internet last year when she hit on Derek in a bar. Lauren Stamile (Rose) makes out with Derek. She should definitely hire some body gaurds.

Well if Meredith doesn't want McDreamy, she can send him over HERE, where I would be happy to marry him/have his kids/have him build a house for us/grow old together/etc etc etc. Even though it's a TV show, you would think any "normal" woman would realize what a hell of a man Derek is and would grab onto him and not let go,and not give him a reason to go!

Congrats and good for you. I guess it's really easy for some fans to take the roll of apathetic bystander. To tell you, if you don't like what you are watching, don't watch. Well, we've all seen where the apathy gets us all in life. You show that you DO CARE about this show from the heartfelt petition you wrote and the fact that you care this much shows what a fan you are. EW weekly did a mid season report and where the shows stood overall in ratings a cople of weeks ago. Grey's was 5th in ratings based on the whole season so far. Last year at this time, it was first. Fans and critics have been lukewarm at best on this season. Sure, we can all take the stand of "if you don't like it , leave.." and then watch as this once beautiful show becomes one of those crap night time teenage dramas (and folks, it's heading there) So while I don't agree with the whole statement (especially on Meredith, she is not hated, it's just that many have chosen NOT to know the character and just jump on the bashing Mer bandwagon..I do not) I still wholeheartedly support your statement, your passion, the fact that you care, and your petition. I gladly signed and I thank you. Wish more fans were like you-so the show would finally improve in it's lacking quality. You did a nice job..I'm glad you care enough to not just "stop watching" I only hope that Shonda Rhimes can drop the ego and listen to the fans who put the show on the map. There's always a first time for everything after all....

FOR ALL YOU MER BASHERS- TRY AND DEFEND DER'S ACTIONS AS THE GOOD GUY!
First I love DER and I really love MER too (loved her on morphine) but please MER has told him time and time again that she has ABANDOMENT issues. (and rightly so-which he is aware of ALL the reasons!)
Let's count how many times HE has abandoned her. (the ones that I remember)
1. Picked ex-wife over her when she sticks her neck out first and tells him she loves him and "pick me, choose me" so cute! Doesn't even go to the bar to explain-just leaves her there drinking all night! MER forgives him!
2. She decides to be "friends with him & share the dog" so that she can hang on to the relationship and has to be friends with ADDI too. Meets someone- He is so jealous that he implies she is a whore and ends the friendship. MER forgives him.
3. Tells her "SHE has a choice to make because when he had a choice to make I chose wrong-I LOVE YOU"- TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED! Then HE decides for HER that Finn is the better guy and ends the relationship again.
4. She tells him she dumped FINN AKA " Well I choose you Derek-how about them apples" HE ignores her….. and sorry I need some time….. not really sure what I want anymore. She is gracious about it, take the time that you need with a smile.
5. As she is recovering from almost DYING/losing her MOTHER, starts to show signs of more confidence, intimacy and communication (even though she was a little smart ass about it)- DER -"I don't know if I can do this any more" "Breathe for you anymore" MER is devastated but comes back and tells DER that the accident has changed her-please stay!
6. Teases her with a weekend away (which I was really wanting to see) (which he could of used to reel her back in) Then he gives her that speech about he loves her, wants to marry her, have kids with her and "I KNOW YOU ARE NOT READY" BUT if someone else comes along soon â€"you might just be out of luck! GIVE ME WHAT I WANT OR I'LL DUMP YOU? Not the most romantic ending to "an I love you speech for your soul mate!"
I think MER'S character is growing and DER'S hasn't. (Not that MER'S character doesn't still have some growing to do) Maybe that is the point of Rose to force DER to Grow too and realize there is only MER for him even if he has to WAIT!
Why doesn't DER go to counseling with FINN/Christiana/IZZIE and try ….
"SHUT UP MER" " I LOVE YOU" and I am not going anywhere no matter what crazy stupid thing you say and give her a MCDREAMY KISS that makes her speechless! We know he has that talent! I think that he is going to have to prove to MER (and that is going to take TIME) that he is not going anywhere no matter how "dark and twisty " she is at times! Someone needs to remind DER about the VOW FOR BETTER OR WORSE since he is so set on getting married AGAIN!
DER has had a bad habit of running/pulling away when the going gets rough and not just with his relationship with MER.
Something for you MER BASHERS to think about!
