Grey's Anatomy Fans Petition for Show Changes
Have you heard about the online petition that's been sent to ABC and Shonda Rhimes?
Disgruntled fans are demanding "something to be done to fix the mess [the show] has become." They've apparently become disheartened by "dark and depressing" story lines - and the 400 people who have signed the document (at the time of this posting) are meticulous in describing their problems with the show.

"The most affected would have to be Derek," the petition reads. "In season 1, we were introduced to the perfect man. He was that guy that everyone wanted to find, everyone wanted to be with. Now he's a shell of that man. The fans are wondering how someone who would always show up, someone who called Meredith the love of his life, who understood her and wanted a lifetime with her became the man he was on our screens January 10, 2008."
(Many on the staff of Grey's Anatomy Insider would point out how difficult it's become to date the self-involved, wishy washy Meredith and wonder what, exactly, Derek did wrong on the aforementioned date, considering his previous warnings and Meredith's reaction to his house plans).
The petition writers, profoundly, ask: "WHO is McDreamy? A question none of us should be asking four seasons into a show."
In short, petitioners explain the reason for their protest as follows:
"We want to know that we're valued, that our feelings and opinions do matter to the people who run the show. We would like to stop feeling alienated and start to feel like they are actually writing for us."
Do you agree with these complaints? Do you think Derek has become lost as a character, or has he simply been forced to adapt to the ever-wavering Meredith? As always, discuss it all now in our FORUM.

Oh my goodness. This show is amazing. I'm glad there finally is a show that isn't perfect, nothing is perfect. So the story lines are dark right now, well you know what some people's lives really are dark. So you so called fans need to shut up and start paying attention to the good parts. What about the healer that saved Bailey's child?! Is that dark?! I think not. Losers.

gonna have to disagree with you sarah. this show used to be so awesome, not that it isnt still awesome, it just isnt AS awesome. i want it back to normal. it was dark enough for me in the first three seasons. im all for this petition. =]

I liked season 2 the most. Season 3 was ok, and season 4 was just wierd for me at times. Anyone know where I can sign this?
January 15th, 2008 5:42 PM
agreed sam123. it goes 2nd, 1st, then 3rd. and 4th was ok. i was wondering the same thing... wheres this petition?!?

I agree with everyone else that seasons 1 & 2 we're the absolute best, and it's been downhill ever since.
The writers just have to figure out how to keep it interesting without making it ridiculous (rose).
I read a poll in Entertainment Weekly, it said that Grey's Anatomy was voted as the show with the worst writers' slump- and I agree with it.

As one of the writers of the petition, I would like to point out we also complained about Meredith's characterization, asking the writers to please make her human again, and to get her back to a different Meredith, and not the character so many people now hate.
It isn't that we don't find the show good anymore, we adore this show with every fiber of our beings, but we are tired of poorly written plots and the assassination of our favorite characters (Derek and Meredith both).
As of right now, over 800 people have signed the petition, either by e-mail or the petition online. If you would like to read/sign the petition, please follow the link:

Thanks guys!

Personally, I think this is kind of overkill. I mean, Grey's Anatomy really is a great show, don't get me wrong...but that's what it is. A show. And I think it's the writers' right to do what they think is best for the storylines. The only problem I've ever had with the show is Meredith's consistent whining, but that's just who the character is. And with the writer's strike being built up to as these first new episodes were written, it isn't hard to believe that some of the writer's gloom and dissatisfaction rubbed off into the scripts!

I signed this petition. Changes need to occur. I used to watch Grey's Anatomy crying and becoming so emotionally involved with the characters that it was probably a little ridiculous. I did not do that on January tenth. I was utterly uninvolved. They're not the same characters I fell in love with at the beginning. It isn't even a matter of character development. It's character-twisting, character-stretching, whatever you want to call it, it just isn't them and I'm hoping something is done to change that.

what a greta petition! nicely written! i signed it. =] hopefully it will work this time.

Heres my question? WHo gives what these dumb people think anyway. If they dont like the show, then turn it off. I doubt Shonda cares and I know she has better things to do then listen to people bitch and complain.

I am most disappointed with Izzie's character. She was awsome with Denny. Then the writers made her shallow. I think she would be smart enough to know that after being with George and still having to work with Callie, and be respected. Her and George should have just been a mistake, (my favorite mistake) and Callie tried to forgive but they made George think with the wrong head. I think they did good with Christina when it came to losing Burke, selling the wedding gifts, mama, the apt, but Izzie has gone nowhere in growth. The Ava and Alex thing should have become more. Her showing up for a bootie call now and then is cheap. If her husband dumped her she knows Alex wouldn't be there. Alex teased her when taking care of her and she fell for that man he was at the time, her doctor and someone for her when she had noone. As for Derek, I don't mind him looking elsewhere to see if that is what he really wanted, but Meredith breaking up all the time is getting old. We do need to see them get married and possible have some kids move into the story line, which can make for good comedy. Not Bailey's baby almost died. That was too sad for me. We already went through Tucker almost dying. I do agree the writers need to listen to the viewers before it's too late. I would also like to see Burke return, give him his job back come on!!

I would have signed this petition if it did not mention Gizzie in a negative light. I agree with the rest of it, but not signing anything that talks against my favorite couple.
January 15th, 2008 7:50 PM
Personally, I think Seasons 1 and 2 were the best, Season 4 is a lot better than Season 3...but both PALE in comparison to the first 2 seasons...and it's really sad....
January 15th, 2008 8:08 PM
i totally agree with the petitioners.
greys isnt even that funny anymore, its just really depressing. of course, im not going to leave the show, but i would like it to be a bit happier and for derek to be more considerate towards mer.

If people don't like the show then turn it off. Or, create your own show, then you can have everything you want. Its the writer's job to write the shows, not the fans. For whatever reason, people feel the need to whine when they don't get the storyline they want. Mer/Der fans especially - so tired of hearing what they are "owed" by the show.

I do agree with the patition, I signed it. I am a little... ok a lot disappointed with the show on Jan 10th. Up until then, I thought that maybe things were starting to get better. But in my opinion, I felt the show on Jan 10th was rushed. They just belted out the episode in a hurry. I had read somewhere that the episode was changed around due to the writers strike and that Shonda had nothing to do with it because they were already striking. It just felt like they had to get this over with. I am very interested to see if this petition changes anything. But fir now I am holding out hope that the writers get what they deserve and get back to business. I want the old funny, emotional, real Grey's back.

SEASON 3 was the best except 4 the episodes where meredith died that was wayy too sad!!! season 4 is the worst in my opinion!!!
January 15th, 2008 9:10 PM
I fore one will say I totally agree w/ the petition, hence why I signed, What I also use to love about the show and feel has been missing is the lack of unity. I feel like the all the interns/residents use to be more like a family, there sense of togetherness is gone. I would like to see more group interaction in the basement, in another really old guys room, lunch, whatever I just want more

I have to say that I have been just as excited watching this season as I was watching season 2! I feel like this season has been mirroring that season, with just the right amount of humor and drama. Plus, in that season we got, "pick me, choose me, love me," in this season we got Derek saying, "I want to marry you." In each season, so far, it has not worked out in them being together. Slowly, we are getting them closer to being in the same place emotionally and that is great! I have no problems with this season, I am loving it. Shonda has made some mistakes, all writers do, but I trust, overall, where the characters are going. Have hope!
January 15th, 2008 9:26 PM
I agree, some where along the line the writer lost track of McDreamy, first episode, he had a good grasp on Meredith and then episode 11 happened, big downfall. I like how insider staff points out wishy washy Meredith, but doesn't seem to bat an eye and they fault of Derek's character, and the character of Derek has just as many flaws and problems as Meredith, he just doesn't admit to them. Agree totally with the petition!!!
January 15th, 2008 9:37 PM
I want to sign the petition. I've stopped watching again. There was a ray of hope on the 1st show of the season - some of the wit & fun returned but alas it went back to the dreary adolescent soap opera this season like the last.
January 16th, 2008 12:36 AM
I really think that MERDER need to get over their problems and just be happy. i would love to see them (especially derek) be bright and shiny for real. seriously! like hopefully make that house that derek was talking about and actually be a good couple. please shonda save this show!!!

Have you all forgotten Patrick Dempsey's birthday on January 13?
January 16th, 2008 1:08 AM
Is this petition serious??? I feel bad for Patrick. It's almost like a personal attack on him even though it really isn't it just feels that way. Actually nevermind...I feel bad for Shonda and the writers. Do you think they are even going to consider this petition?? Fans of Jerchio did a petition for the show and they got it back on air. Maybe this petition will work for Grey's.
Okay so the show isn't what it use to be and McDreamy is now offically a McWeenie.[I go that from an article that I read in Cosmo about how Greys Anatomy's fans were complaining about how Derek isn't the man they once feel in love with. Name one show that has stayed the same over time! I feel like this petition is just to get Lauren off the show. Hello people, Derek isn't going to marry this chick he's just hanging with her for the time being.
