An Interview with Lauren Stamile
Grey's Anatomy finally returns tomorrow, for what will be the last episode we'll see until the writers' strike comes to an end. It's extremely sad, but at least "Lay Your Hands On Me" is shaping up to be rather interesting.
One reason? Rose. The character introduced a few episodes ago, and played by the lovely Lauren Stamile, has done nothing but spark controversy. Here is an interview Lauren recently did with E! Online's Kristin Veitch ...
E!: I heard your mom and dad met just like Rose and McDreamy.
Lauren Stamile: Yes! My mom is a nurse, and my dad is a doctor, and it's actually kind of cute, because you know how they wear the surgical masks? Well, my dad saw my mom's eyes, and that was it. Very romantic.
Lauren Stamile (Rose), Patrick Dempsey (Derek), Ellen Pompeo (Meredith).
E!: So, what was it like the first time you met Patrick Dempsey?
Lauren Stamile: I met him in my last meeting [with the producers], and I didn't realize how nervous I was until I met him! He's definitely one of the most charismatic and charming people I have ever met. I wasn't ready, I don't think. I was laughing and red and embarrassed and probably ridiculous looking.
E!: How very Rose-like of you!
Lauren Stamile: Yeah, I was so very much myself during that audition. I wasn't sure at first if that was good or if that was bad. I guess it wasn't too bad.
E!: So, how jealous are your friends that you're smooching McDreamy?
Lauren Stamile: Very! [Laughs] I would be, too, if I were them. My family is very excited. I can't quite believe that's really my job!
E!: What was it like to film that first kiss? Please be specific for our female readers!
Lauren Stamile: I was nervous. A scene like that is always nerve-racking, it just is. And usually my way of coping with things like that is talking about it. So, I said to him, are you freaking out? Because I'm freaking out. I was very upset I didn't have hair in that scene, I had the shower cap on. I don't even look cute, I look like a turtle. So, I spent time making fun of myself and then he made fun of me, too. We laughed our way through it. It ended up being very comfortable and nice, actually. But it was definitely a nerve-racking day.
E!: Now the money question: Will there be more kisses for Derek and Rose?
Lauren Stamile: I don't know. I think I'm like everybody else in that I don't know what's going to happen. I think their relationship could kind of go either way. I guess we'll have to wait until things start up again after the strike.
E!: Have you heard what the fans are saying about Rose?
Lauren Stamile: I've heard some. I try not to look at the blogs or anything like that, because I am sure there are many people who are not happy. But my family and friends tell me, "Oh, yes. There are people who are not happy." But there are people who are happy, too, so I'm sure that's probably happening.
E!: What do you want to happen for Derek and Rose?
Lauren Stamile: Well, gosh. I was a very big fan of the show before this job, and there was an episode where Derek was saying to Meredith, "I want to have children with you, I want my life with you and I will wait." And I remember, when I was watching that episode, I was like, "Oh! I hope nobody comes along, that's awful, they need to be together!" And now I'm realizing,"Oh, that might be me." So, I think they've been going on a back-and-forth thing for a long time, and I think sometimes, the way you truly value somebody is to see what it's like not to have them. It might even be good for their relationship if things took a turn for a little while. And if that involves me, I would be very pleased. [Laughs]

lauren seems lovely. she looks a little like lauren graham actually, who is one of my favorite actresses. i love how she is on mer/der's side. i guess she realizes how many people are pulling for them as a couple. but you guys, remember how long ross and rachel were apart. but they got together at the end! and they still had great scenes even when they weren't together (i think some of the best scenes are actually when they aren't together--ex the closet scene w/ mer crying, the scene when they're on a bench outside the hospital and der is tearing up)

The thing is Mer/Der ARE NOT "Ross and Rachel" This is not a half hour comedy. This is a show where these two have been the key couple since the first moment on camera and have been utilized in every conceivable way to sell the show and now to keep them apart at fans expense and that's just wrong. I do not want to see Mer/Der together in the last five minutes of the last episode of Grey's. While I'm sure Stamile is lovely, there is just no need for YET ANOTHER Mer/Der "love triangle" and this one is useless and so poorly written it's painful at times to watch. The cast is over bloated as is. Right now we have 13 cast members on the show (both regulars and recurring) and it takes away the time we need for the regulars who sadly have been so under used now. Please lost "McPlotDevice" and get this cast down to a reasonable size. Stop it with all the needless "Love triangles" and just write well for our main characters on this show and DO NOT wait until the last five minutes of GA, to finally get Mer/Der together. That would just be ripping the fans off fro the sake of revenue and ratings.

exactly what im saying, claire. i love when derek and meredith are together. it just makes the show so much better!! i dont want another ross and rachel ending, there are too many shows like that all ready.

i agree die rose. derekisformeredith! grey's has managed to differentiate from the beggining because of its original writing! i'm sure those insightfull writers can find ways to keep it interesting without turning it into this soup-drama disaster. because this time, neither a bomb nor a near death experience will save the day

No big Grey's fans really like Rose or want to see her and McDreamy get together, everyone wants Mer and Der together obviously, that's what the writers set up, if Rose and Mer were switched and it had started with Rose then we'd want her not Mer, the point is, we're set up to want this, which is fine, great even, it means good writing; however we can't hate the actress, and if Mer and Der were always together with no problems then there wouldn't be much of a plot, like you said it's a drama not Friends comedy!

Y'all are crazy! Meredith is an obnoxious character. I like what she brings to the show, in that I love to hate her. But, Derek deserves better and Rose is just about perfect for him. Not to mention she's about the most attractive woman on the show since Addison left...

Meredith has so many emotional problems. She is afraid to leave the comfort zone and live. Derek deserves better. Rose on the other hand is secure in herself and knows what she wants and she is cute. I'm in a similar real life situation wish I could meet someone like Rose.

I like Lauren Stamile. She seems like a really sweet person. And I like her character. I'd probably like her character even more if she were to hook-up with someone else on the show. Anyone other than Derek.
But I guess we'll just have to deal with her hooking-up with Derek for now.

well, i like lauren stamile. she seems like a nice person, and plus, she likes merder! i think if she were to be on the show, she should be a character who has nothing to do with merder's relationship. i think then i might like her. unless she messed with another relationship i like. oh wait, i forgot. there aren't any other good relationships.

Lauren Stamile is lovely. Rose is a great character, and I have to admit that there is chemistry between Derek and Rose. Unfortunately, the writers have turned Meredith into someone quite pathetic this season.....all that said, I hope it goes like Rose described...a chemistry-laden short relationship between Rose and Derek, then Derek realizing Meredith is the one he loves, Meredith finally growing a bit, and MerDer ending up together. But, I like Rose too so I'm ok if she sticks around for a little while.

ok I think that the show has taken an evil turn for the worst. Im scared that it has turned into ER too much drama and too many characters. We never see cristina or any of the core characters anymore. I love meredith and derek but they focused so much on them that they have lost focus on what the show is and should be as a creative whole. Rose should be a character that makes derek and meredith realize that they are meant to be together. Meredith needs to realize that she can be healthy and happy on her own before she even tries to be in a relationship. And derek needs to grow up himself. This is a man who has always said that meredith is the one but every woman in the world seems to sway him. Im gonna stay with my wife wait no Im not. I dont want her to be with mcvet oh wait yes I do. I want to build "our" dream house but I make out with another woman the night before. Man needs to figure out what the hell he wants before he gives meredith or rose false hope. greys needs a makeover. go back and watch seanson one and two and try and figure out where you went wrong!!
