You've heard from our staff members in the Insider's weekly round table, and you've heard each other's views in our forum. But what does producer - and writer of the season premiere - Shonda Rhimes have to say about this memorable episode?
On her official blog, Rhimes has posted her thoughts regarding "A Change is Gonna Come." Follow the link below for the full version. Excerpts below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So... change. Change is good. Change is everything.
Change is also what's in the stomach of that guy who can't stop eating weird crap.
Welcome to Season Four. SEASON FOUR. I can't believe we made it this far. We're proud to have made it this far. Let me tell you, Season Three was not easy for anybody and we're glad to have it behind us. It's all new dawn, new day over here and people are happy as freaking pie about it.
The interns are residents now, with interns of their own. Except for George, poor George.
He's stuck repeating his intern year. He's a repeater. And it's not easy being a repeater. It pretty much sucks being a repeater. He's the only who hasn't gone through any change when we begin the episode. But by the end, he has.
He tells Izzie that he loves her too. Which takes guts. Because he knows what he is getting into. He's a married man, he's a married man with a great wife, and he never intended to be a married man who loved another woman.
Man, is he in for some change. I've been reading the boards. I know how a lot of y'all feel about the George-Izzie of it all. But stay tuned because it gets really interesting. And funny. And sad. And I'm pretty sure what comes is unexpected.
Meredith and Derek are "broken up" by the end of this first episode. But what does that really mean? Especially when break up means break up sex?
Are they really apart? Poor Meredith can't quite deal with all that is expected of her in this relationship but they love each other, they really truly love each other and so⦠how much can they really be broken up?
I gotta say, I'm really rooting for the two of them to make it. For Mer to get her act together and learn to trust someone. Someone other than Cristina. Whom she honeymooned with. That was my favorite detail.
I love what she said about George, not wanting to hurt Callie but being in love with another woman. Hopefully, they find a way so Callie does not get hurt too much but George and Izzie can get together. I want Callie to find someone who loves her truly, and that is not George. George's heart belongs to Izzie.
Hmm, she doesn't give away much, she just seems to be trying to throw those little hints to get people to watch, but nothing much new here. he said she hopes MerDer makes it through, well she is the writer so she is the one that chooses, weird. And she says George never meant to fall in love with Izzie, which is something else we know, and hints the triangle will be there for a while, which I had also figured out.
I really wish Callie and George could divorce and he could be with Izzie, they obviously love each other even Shonda says it, but she loves to torture everyone.
george and Izzie love each other and after the divorce is through, they could be a really cute, sweet, fun couple, yet she is turning them into MerDer 2.
Gizzie is my favorite couple and I am terrified she will ruin them.
For some reason, all the comments people posted under Shonda's blog were all happy "I loved the ep and I love you Shonda!" comments.
They filter those right? Because my impression is that most people were largely unimpressed.
Hey.
Loved the epsiode except the 3 things.
1. The Dear plot.
2. Some awkward writing. (Bamby speech, Lexie telling Mer at that moment)
3. No Bourke, No Addie (two favs)
Love gizzie. Im still scared she's going to kill them off though... please dont kill them.
Loved "Joey's" compusive object eating problem. Glad he survived the surgery to remove all that metal. Bummer that they wouldn't give him all the coins they recovered from his stomach. Must have been considerable value. Hope they bring Steve Porter back later in the year. Perhaps he can return to report he saw a therapist and is cured of Pica.
