First Promos For “Love/Addiction”

Here’s the promo that ABC aired immediately following “A Change is Gonna Come,” advertising next Thursday’s episode “Love/Addiction.” From Alex getting decked at the hospital to a surprise appearance by Mrs. Burke to some serious S&M (sex and mockery), it looks like there will be plenty going on in this episode!

Follow the jump for ANOTHER PREVIEW of “Love/Addiction” - one that is not only different, but steamier - that has been appearing on CTV …

Grey’s Anatomy Second in Ratings

Reviews of last night’s season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy have been strong, but the show fell significantly in ratings compared to a year ago, when Season 3 premiered amid a Meredith-Derek-Finn love cliffhanger.

With 24.9 million viewers, CSI outperformed its own 2006 opener by some 13 percent, and in doing so, trumped ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, which garnered 20.5 million (down from last fall’s 25.15 million).

Although Grey’s Anatomy fared better among advertisers’ key demographics, this is Gil Grissom & Co.’s biggest margin of victory over the ABC titan. The Office (9.67 million) also bested its previous premiere by 670,000.

Katherine Heigl Makes Waves

Or just waves, period. Riding high from her hit summer movie, Emmy win and the return of Grey’s Anatomy for its 4th season, Katherine Heigl is all smiles en route to a meeting at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood Wednesday.

Katherine (Izzie Stevens) and the rest of the Grey’s Anatomy cast shined Thursday night in the first episode of the new season, “A Change is Gonna Come.”

Round Table: “A Change is Gonna Come”

Grey’s Anatomy Insider is happy to announce the return of the Round Table!

While fans gather in our forum to discuss each character and story line, our staff members will come together each Friday to analyze key moments, developments and thoughts from each Grey’s Anatomy episode.

Topics for “A Change is Gonna Come” range from Ms. Lexie Grey to Alex’s new look, to some of the night’s dramatic rescues and what we felt was missing …

1. Should Derek be Mark’s friend?

Derek ShepherdMcCritic: Yes. Mark knows how to reattach body parts. Maybe he could show Derek how to grow some … you know.

iheartizzie: Hells no. Homeboy slept with Addison and tried to get Meredith in the sack. Don’t buy the “it’s just Mark” defense. Guy is bad news. Sexy, though.

AndYouveGotTheHair: Ideally, no, but with Burke and Addison gone and Meredith a little spacey at times, he’s gotta hang with someone. I really miss Burke.

2. He said “I love you, too,” but do George and Izzie stand a chance?

iheartizzie: Regardless of how you feel about O’Mizzie as a couple, their cover hasn’t been blown yet. The surely negative backlash they face is going to put an entirely different spin on things, I believe.

AndYouveGotTheHair: I know I’m in the minority, but I don’t despise these two as a couple. There is good chemistry there, great acting on behalf of both Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight. Sure, George is married and Callie hasn’t done anything to deserve this, but you can’t control who you fall for. George clearly wants to do the right thing… he just doesn’t know what that is, it seems.

McCritic: Not if there’s a God in heaven. Or a writer with a quarter of a brain.

3. Save of the Day: Derek / Cristina with the spinal cord patient, Izzie with the deer, or Lexie with George’s psyche?

AndYouveGotTheHair: You have to hand it to the new Ms. Grey on this one. Without going over the line with someone she doesn’t even know, she got George to stop whining in a way that really was kind of awesome.

McCritic: Lexie. It’s nice to see one Grey sister can worry about more than just herself. (Note to Meredith lovers: BRING IT!)

iheartizzie: Gotta go with Isobel. While it was the least remarkable in terms of skill (how much research does it take to deliver a massive electric shock), that deer was the cutest of the creatures needing saving. George has nothing on a real-life Bambi. Also, how great was Izzie’s reaction when it worked?

Oh, Deer!

4. Alex’s facial hair: Yay or Nay?

McCritic: A stronger “Nay” than the answer a horse gives when asked if he wants to visit the glue factory.

iheartizzie: Eh?

AndYouveGotTheHair: Yay!

5. What was your least favorite part of the premiere?

AndYouveGotTheHair: The way Lexie chose to drop the latest bomb on Mer. In the middle of a medical crisis! As if anyone would be so self-absorbed as to do that. Then again, her surname is Grey …

McCritic: The status of the Chief and his relationship with Adele. Didn’t he realize last season he needed to dedicate himself to his marriage? Didn’t these two make up during the best moment of the season finale? Wasn’t there a drawn-out story line focused on his replacement?

iheartizzie: The episode’s title. Instead of “A Change is Gonna Come,” they missed a great opportunity to go with “Change is Gonna Come… Out of That Dude’s Abdomen!” Come on, Shonda. There was, what, $2.35 in there?

When Grey Girls Collide: Meredith Meets Lexie

It’s so great to have the Grey’s Anatomy cast back, and so far, the critics seem to agree - “A Change is Gonna Come” - has been received positively by most.

We’ve read many reviews since the premiere aired. Here’s an interesting one from Jennifer Armstrong of Entertainment Weekly that sums up the feelings of fans who really love their favorite show despite its many perceived faults.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So here we are, back again at Seattle Grace Hospital. Our first few scenes back made it clear — with a Shonda Rhimes-penned script, no less — that there would be no dark Sturm und Drang to match that very emotional finale.
Meredith GreyShiny new interns! Happy opening music! A sunny establishing shot of Seattle! It feels like the first day of school — a brand new day, to borrow from a certain omnipresent promo ABC has been running for a certain spin-off show on Wednesdays.
The back-to-basics vibe stuck throughout “A Change is Gonna Come,” which, while not exactly life changing, did successfully deliver a very strong message right from the source: Classic Grey’s Anatomy is back, viewers.
Yes, we can totally do the addictive combo of banter, soap and metaphorically resonant surgeries without Isaiah Washington and Kate Walsh, dammit!
All the trademarks of old-school Grey’s Anatomy were there:
  • Alex and Izzie and Cristina and Meredith traded mildly witty barbs while sitting on that one gurney in that one hallway where they like to hang out.
  • A mid-level disaster (car accident) provided a variety of surgeries (pregnant lady with severed arm, dude who seemed dead but wasn’t).
  • A quirky twist (the deer from the car crash must be saved)!
  • A string of preposterous coincidences popped up to wreak havoc on our characters’ already complicated personal lives.
Katherine Heigl, T.R. Knight Preview the Premiere
After quite a season finale, Grey’s Anatomy returns tonight.
To recap where we left off in May, Cristina (Sandra Oh) was left at the altar by Dr. Burke. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) sort of broke up, and George (T.R. Knight) found out he failed his intern exams.
“He’s repeating his intern year,” T.R. Knight tells Entertainment Tonight on set of the hit medical series, referring to his troubled character.
“His options were to walk away, or to repeat it, so, he’s a repeater. He’s made a lot of mistakes and that was one of them. You know the adultery and all that, so he needs to work out some stuff.”
And part of working out that stuff means he has to figure out whether he wants to stay married to Callie (Sara Ramirez), or pursue friend Izzie (Katherine Heigl).
Justin, Katie, T.R.
While neither T.R. Knight nor Katherine Heigl would reveal the future of “Gizzie,” they did talk about their romantic kissing scene - not!
“When we were kissing, I was chewing that gum,” T.R. recalled, laughing.
“They have this apple gum on the camera cart,” Katherine added.
“It’s apple flavored, but, literally, to me, it smells like vomit… like that taste in your mouth before you are going to throw up. So, the fact that I had to kiss him, and he had that gum in his mouth, was really throwing me off, because all I was thinking of was throwing up.”
Well, that’s hot! The season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy, “A Change is Gonna Come,” airing tonight at 9 p.m. on ABC, is different this year.
The title is appropriate. With the exception of George, the rest of the gang - Meredith, Cristina, Izzie and Alex (Justin Chambers) - are now residents.
“We have just a tiny modicum of power now, but not like Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and not like Callie who is the chief resident. We have our own interns - a group of young, eager students… basically who we were two years ago,” Katherine Heigl said.
T.R. Knight Reflects on Following His Own Path
What a difference a year makes: T.R. Knight says his life has been better since he publicly came out of the closet amid on-set controversy last October.
“I feel I’ve learned so much this past year, so, I’m grateful for that, so yeah, that changes you,” he said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday.
Asked what he thinks about actors who do not come out of the closet, T.R. Knight said, “Everyone has their own path. You have to respect that… I don’t think it’s right to force it. It’s impossible to know. There’s a lot of soul searching you have to do.”
Knight, who plays Dr. George O’Malley on the hit ABC drama, which returns with its fourth season premiere, “A Change is Gonna Come” tonight, got a nomination for a best supporting actor Emmy for his work in Season 3.
Just as importantly, though, he received a special birthday gift.
Co-star Katherine Heigl - who is also a close friend off-camera - surprised Knight with a puppy, which he named Arrow, on his 34th birthday.
“I had been talking about [getting a dog] for quite a while. I guess there’s a point … too much talk and not enough action,” Knight said. “So Katherine made the decision. It was great, yeah. She showed up at my house with it.”
Knight in Shining Armor
Although he is happier with himself since he made his announcement, T.R. Knight says that coming out hasn’t much affected his love life.
“Recently Kate [Heigl] and her fiancé, Josh Kelley, and me and her mom went out to dinner, and it was reported that it was with me and my new boyfriend. But that was her mom,” Knight joked. “So I guess I’m dating Katherine’s mom now.”
A Preview of Tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy Music
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we can tell you about one of them right now early: Tonight’s premiere, “A Change is Gonna Come,” will feature “To Build a Home,” by Cinematic Orchestra.
