Chyler Leigh Promoted to Cast Member
TV Guide reports today that the Grey's Anatomy brain trust has officially promoted Chyler Leigh (a.k.a. Mer's half-sister, Lexie Grey) to a series regular.
An ABC Studios rep confirmed the move, stating that Chyler Leigh is signed for at least 13 episodes at the present time.
The news confirms our story from last week about Leigh possibly joining the cast.
It also comes in spite of a report that Grey's test audiences chewed up and spit out the Lexie character during a recent focus group.
Her flirtation with Derek Shepherd - one of only two scenes featuring Lexie Grey thus far - didn't help.
In any case, Chyler Leigh appears to be here to stay.
In related news, the spin-off, Private Practice, also added a new star in KaDee Strickland (The Wedding Bells) to play the administrator of Oceanside Wellness Center. She too will be a series regular.

Somebody please help me understand this. Nobodty liked George and Izzy so they drop it. Did I not just read that nobody liked Lexie either and their still wanting to keep her for a long time. I'm asuming that Shonda hopes that we grow to like her as we did Addison. Unless her storyline keeps her away from MerDer I just don't see it happening.

Does 13 episodes constitute being a regular. I was also wondering if Shonda expects her to grow on us. I think it would take something major to do that like putting her in a coma for about 11 of the 13 episodes.

my opinion - everyone carrying on negatively about the Lexi factor is about a potential relationship with Derek - not only would that plot line put him in a profoundly dislikable situation - it raises moral compass questions that move Grey's away from the it's appeal. Not unlike making George & Izzie lovers which was a strange diection to move into.
Can GA writers please go back to good writing and drop these faux plot twists they appear to be using. I'm out until I read in the press/web this got fixed this fall. I don't usually write in these forums but in this instance just want to express my concern for the direction of the series in 2007. I was a big fan. Grey's in Season 1, Season 2 and first half of Season 3 was well written plus charming, challenging, well produced, and well cast. What happened???

Dear shonda, i have to tell you right now you are not in so many people's good book and just in case you havent noticed yet, majority of your viewers are either half in love with Patrick dempsey or are already are. My point is if you dare let something happen btw him and lexie, the audience are not only going to stop watching but you will forever destroy that mcdreamy image you have created and thereby hating patrick dempsey in the process.

I've seen some interviews with Patrick and Ellen and they both want MerDer together. I know in one interview Patrick said when Addison showed up he was very disliked for about three months. When he was interviewed at the Indy 500 he said the Lexie thing was'nt getting him the attention he wanted .He even said season 3 was depressing for them. You think Shonda would get the hint. If we have to put up with her then let her chase after Alex or something like that. Leave MerDer alone.

I really hope that "Lexie" will only be Mer's sister and not a trouble maker where Mer/Der is concerned! Shonda really played with our emotions last season when she introduced Lexie flirting with Derek at the bar and again in the finale with George. Maybe that was intended to get us worried when she actually is not heading down that path at all! (trying to think positive here). And, I don't think we will hear anything about the Mer/Der/Lexie storyline until the season starts because I think Sonda is hush hush about Mer/Der because she knows this is the one couple that all of tv is dying to know about. So this way, she can keep us hanging on till the season starts and we'll find out then. If she is having to rewrite the George/Izzie storylines because the fans don't like that....well then you know she has to be aware of the upset fans of Mer/Der that feel as if she broke them up in the seson finale! So with Patrick and Ellen on our side...lets hope they will have some influence in the decisions of their relationship because we all know they love to be together as much as we love seeing them together! Lets think positive and hope Shonda will not let us down!

She's like a nightmare that won't go away. You know they are suppose to cast Derek's sister Kathy. Put her and Lexie on there at the same time and if she's anything like Nancy there won't be enough nerve pills to go around.

How do you pronounce her name? Is it like "Sylar" as in the TOTALLY EVIL VILLAIN on Heroes? Because she might as well be the villain on Grey's, much more so than when Addison first entered Seattle Grace.

I have faith that it will be a great season even with McBarSlut. I don't like her...but I didn't like Addison at first either. Now I hate that she is gone.

I don't know whether or not I am suppose to be upset or happy. I just knew that they were going to make her a series regular. She better stay away from Derek and get with Alez instead.

I´m fine how are you any news. Yeah the only reason i gooled McBar slut i wanted to see how old the BITCH is & i found out she´s youger than ME. & If McDreamy is too old 4 then he´s too old for her. Not that he´s old coz 41 is not old. & away McDreamy is like a good bottle of wine the older he gets th e BETTER he gets.
By the way i agree with everything th you said. If McDreamy gets with Lexie he won´t be McDreamy anymore he´ll be McJackass AGAIN whitch is not GOOD AT ALL.

I just realized something and now have to contradict myself on my last commented article. Bonnie said that she thinks Shonda is hoping that we will learn to like Lexi as we did Addison. And I for one am willing to bet that nobody liked Addison in the beginning but now were sorry to see her leave Seattle Grace. It was a point in Dereks life that needed to be known and dealt with. Same goes for Meredith. As much as we are going to hate her, Mer needs this to happen.
