Ellen Pompeo, Eric Dane to Join Patrick Dempsey at Indianapolis 500
If star gazing is your thing, then the Indianapolis 500 is for you, even if you aren’t a big auto racing enthusiast like Patrick Dempsey.
After all, the 500-mile race, set for Sunday, will feature none other than Grey’s Anatomy’s Dempsey as the pace car driver.
What’s more, his co-star and on-screen love, Ellen Pompeo, will be flying in for the big race, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Last week’s Greys Anatomy season finale left viewers wondering about Derek and Meredith, but their off-screen friendship must be a little more solid.
Pompeo is engaged to music producer Christopher Ivery, while Patrick is married to wife Jillian, with whom he has three young children.
Another Grey’s Anatomy star, Eric Dane, will be among the celebrities walking the red carpet Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Officials at the Speedway released the names of more celebs expected to be in town for the 500-Mile Race - and attending a prerace red carpet walk in Pagoda Plaza.
He’ll be joining some other familiar faces, including Ashley Judd, wife of driver Dario Franchitti; Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, Dempsey, Pompeo, Dennis Farina, Ray Liotta, Survivor legend Rupert Boneham, Gene Simmons of Kiss and legendary TV mom Florence Henderson.

I seriously just to wish McDreamy the best of luck with the race on Sunday. Not that he needs it .Because all of his fans who love him know he´ll do great, & even if he dosen´t win he´s still a McWinner to us. I also think it´s really sweet that his on-screen McGirl is going to show him her support.
I think that its great how Ellen shows her support to Patrick for his love of racing! I know he has to be thrilled that she will be there and share that with him. We all know that these two are great friends off screen and it just reaffirms that by things they do for each other like this! You can really tell how much they care for each other by whatever they do together! I hope we get to see them on tv this week-end. I’ll be watching!

Yea so my mom asked me if i wanted to go to this a while back because her and her boyfriend are going and i was like no i dont want to go cause i dont like the whole car thing but then i found out Patrick was driving the pase car so now i’m going and then i foind out this morning that ellen and eric are going i’m so excited. i’m bringing the digitale and there will be a lot of pics taking

Ellen Pompeo just won my heart all over again, it just shows how kind a person she is, flying all the way to give a friend her moral support. goodluck mcdreamy and well done ellen. I hope merder will eventually be like that too!
Patrick and Ellen have a friendship that just totally awesome. Their love and respect for one another just shines through when they are together. TR and Katie also have that same quality.

I totally agree! Patrick and Ellen are a perfect couple! He does have a wife and she does have a boyfriend, but it is just so evident the connection they have for each other..on and off screen! They do seem like the perfect real life couple. I remember reading somewhere when they did the NY & Co photo shoot together, that one of the photographers (I think it was) said that you would think they were a real life couple! So its not just us crazy fans that see the connection between these two! Even on one of the podcasts, (6 days part 1 and 2 that airs tonight) it was mentioned that these two actors really enjoyed working together and had so much fun together making each other laugh all the time. They said they had a time getting the scenes completed because these two were laughing so much. (Most of been during the snoring scenes and when they were playing around when he was tickling her). Anyway, like someone else said, if we can’t have them as a real life couple…I’m glad they are great friends because it really shows onscreen how lovable this couple can be!

I think I just saw Patrick Dempsey!!!!!!
My office is downtown on a major thoroughfare close to the 500 Festival offices….I’ve been seeing the same guys driving around in the pace car replicas for 2 weeks…they’re orange corvette convertables with a special paint job. I’ve seen the same guy over and over & he always has the top down - and the cars have special numbered plates…
Anyway - I was sitting in my office, and saw a DIFFERENT pace car (different plate #) with the top UP - but from my 3rd floor view, I could see the driver inside - a dark headed guy with a dark blue shirt (like the one PD was wearing in the Fox interview)….
I’m going to believe it was him, anyway….can’t wait for the parade tomorrow. A friend has connections, so we’ll be getting a curbside view….
That is great that you think you saw PD! That would be a dream come true! Do you know if the parade will be televised? I wonder if Patrick and Ellen will be together in the parade? I would think so! I can see them now ….. him holding her hand either walking down the street or sitting side by side in a car in the parade! I really hope everyone gets good pics of them! Well, I’m back from the parade….Eric Dane was riding in an old mustang. He looked great! PD was in an even older car, don’t know what model. There was a woman in the front seat, but it sure didn’t look like Ellen. PD looked GREAT! Tan, smiling….Both he and ED looked thinner. ED’s hair was more salt & pepper, PD’s was dark! Oh, he is sooooo handsome.
I wasn’t terribly happy with the photos that I took, they weren’t as close up as I would’ve liked…but I’ll still share if someone can tell me how / where to post them. The girlfriend I went with had a zoom lens and she thought her photos would be much closer…but her camera was a film camera and she was taking the filrm to be developed right after the parade….
It was great, can’t wait for tomorrow!

The parade will be videotaped for broadcast from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today on ESPN2 and from 8 to 10 p.m. locally on WISH-TV (Channel 8).
EP wont actually be there till race day apparently. I think thats what ED was also doing but they somehow managed to put him in the parade.
But yeah Ellen will be there on the actual race day, she’s supposed to be!
That is a really cute photo of McDreamy. But i do think his hair is a little too short. I like it a little longer. But still looks seriously dreamy though.
He’s already been interviewed at the track this morning, as has Eric Dane. PD had on a ball cap, and a Vision Racing jacket over a white polo shirt. Looking good….very up and excited about driving the pace car. Had some very nice things to say about the city.
i saw PD and ED yesterday at the parade too.
and then i got eric dane’s autograph today cause my seats were in the best area (between gasoline alley and the area where all the press was going on). so.. i saw patrick about 9480928 times today. he totally blew me off for an autograph though. the race had already started and he was just walking around and he walked by me (there was no one else around) and he saw me and my ticket and sharpie, but ignored me and walked by. but i saw him a TON today, so he might have been slightly creeped out haha.
eric on the other hand didnt notice me at first, but when he did he was almost inside the building but motioned me to come back (since i already started walking away) and signed my ticket for me. i wish i got a picture but there was no one around to take it. but that was ok cause he was smiling at me the whole time and hes so adorable!!
o and i dont think ellen was there today. cause she wasnt at the “red carpet” thing and i saw pretty much every celebrity there, but didn’t see her. i think at least some of the time she woulda been with patrick and eric, cause they were together a lot right before the race, but she wasnt.
Wonder if Ellen was there? Like you said, you would have thought you would have seen her with Patrick if she was there! What a shame, would love to have seen PD and EP together!
I dont know if she was there but she could have been i mean the only celebrity that was really covered was ashley judd who’s husband won the race.
And an article said that she was going to watch it from some suite thing they provide so maybe because it was raining she went striaght to the suite.

Hey, sponge…that’s awesome!!!Yeah, I heard from a co-worker’s husband that worked the race (cop working security) that PD was walking around a lot. I think he must’ve been pretty excited about driving and all the delays were making everybody crazy….
I don’t think EP made it either…or she was extremely low key, I never heard her name mentioned during any of the events. unfortunate for the fans, but wouldn’t it be cool if she could just have a fun day supporting a friend?
I think it’s fun that PD and ED seemed to have such a good time together….the clips of them riding around in the pace car were a lot of fun.
I saw this clip from GMA as PD is interviewed. He was so cute answering the questions about GA. He admits that he and Mer had a depressing year and hopes that they get back together. Even though he also says he has no idea what will happen!
