Grey’s Anatomy Spin-Off Reportedly Gets a Tentative Title: Private Practice
The heavily anticipated Kate Walsh-led Grey’s Anatomy spin off finally has a name. A tentative one, at least: Private Practice.
According to Buddy TV, ABC unveiled the moniker for the new show at a star studded media buyers event during network development week.
ABC executives lauded the spin off’s spectacular cast that in addition to Walsh, includes Taye Diggs, Tim Daly, Amy Brenneman, Chris Lowell, and numerous others.
The Grey’s Anatomy spin-off is being touted for its stand alone premise that will take Kate Walsh’s character out of the realm of nightmare medical emergencies and incorporated hospital trysts into a setting they think less hard core medical drama fans will appreciate.
In that sense, the proposed name for Grey’s Anatomy 2.0 is quite apt.
ABC execs are quick to caution that the name of Private Practice may change, however. The two-hour episode set to sample the themes of the series will debut May 10, but don’t think of it as a pilot. Grey’s Anatomy is riding a high enough wave at this point that the second series is virtually a lock, whether the initial sample piques interests or not.
It has been noted, in some cases not very kindly, that the bulk of the supporting cast is made up of refugees from failing shows: Taye Diggs from Day Break, the Lost stand in that died after only three episodes; Tim Daly from The Nine, which failed to retain enough from its Lost lead-in to remain viable; and Chris Lowell from the thought-to-be-doomed Veronica Mars.
Does ABC anticipate big things from Private Practice?
The feedback from attendees was that the show is expected to quickly occupy a top spot in their fall lineup. For now, however, there is no proposed air date or time for the new series, which will premiere with the rest of ABC’s new fall lineup.
I love Kate Walsh, and hell, I’ll even give the show a chance.
But for some reason, I just don’t see this lasting.
I have the same feeling why can’t Shonda just stick to GA they are an ensemble and what about the rumor that Sara Ramirez did not sign for a complete season 4. GA is “comfortable” for us fan don’t ruin it please Shonda you have already enough on your plate and according to a pol season 3 is not the best season. In french we say you can’t have the butter, the money of the butter and the smile of the milklady…… (le beurre, l’argent du beurre et le sourire de la crèmière) in other words don’t push your luck.
If this spin-off flops, does that mean that Addison’s gonna return to GA? If that would be the case I ask all GA fans in the US to boycott the spinn-off!

I don’t think that they should even have a spinoff show. I think that it will hurt grey’s ratings because addison belongs at seattle grace, not anywhere else. and the show won’t last. It’ll probably be like day break and have like three episodes mayble.
what about the saying..if it ain’t broke..WHY are they taking Kate out of SG? she belongs there…well if the spin off bombs…Shona BETTER bring KATE back to SG!!

As much as I have come to love Kate and the character she plays I don’t want her to have her own show. I like her on GA of course as long as she is’nt with Derek. From what I have read she does get to come back if it’s a flop. And another thing Im not crazy about the title either it sounds to generic.

although i am no fan of kate, i still want her to stay with the GA team. I also dont like the idea of shonda sharing her talent at the moment, besides GA still has a long way to go even though its still the best show. All this spin off thingy sounds to me like a gold digging conspiracy.

one or two? I’m for two. They belong to the same world so characters can visit and go back and forth. I think this is a great idea! It opens up more story lines, and who is to say that McSteamy doesn’t follow her there? He followed her to Seatle from New York. Way to go SHONDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im not sure about this show, i mean i love kate walsh and i think shes an amazing actress and everything, but like i dont know, greys anatomy is amazing as it is…
My feeling is - although I hope I’m wrong - is that if the spin off flops then that will hurt Grey’s ratings in turn too.
I just think that it’s too risky - even for Grey’s - to do a spin off so soon and take a main, and major, character off the original.
I have to admit I did not like Addison when she first appeared on GA. ( I have this thing about ANYONE interfering with Der and Mer. But, as time has moved on so have I. I REALLY like her, now ,that she and derrick are divorced. I also like Kate as an actor and a real person. I too was not comfortable with a spin off from Grey’s in the (3) Season. It just seemed to soon for that. I really thought it would be disastrous. But, now I ‘m going to watch and wait and see. I will miss her on grey’s and I do wish her all the success she deserves. I just don’t want the writing for grey’s to get lost in the schuffle. There are still hundreds of story lines that need to be told about each character on grey’s. Just PLEASE don’t lose this momentumn.
There is a clause in KWs contract, so that if this flops, she goes back to Greys.

In the spin off can Denny come back???? no only kidding.. I like Addison and i will watch the spin off if its shown in UK but I would not like anything to detract from Greys…It is truley the best thing ever… I love Izzie…..She needsa good man to cheer her up…..this time one who stays alive.

Team Private Practice! I’ve been disappointed in Grey’s of late. I think it’s lost the edge that made it so special in seasons 1 and 2. Hopefully, Shonda will find that edge again in a fresh start, and the character of Addison is a perfect “jumping off” point.
To me, the best thing they can do is put Private Practice on Thursday nights at 10:00.
I love Kate Walsh and I am totally gonna give the show a chance. If it doesn’t work out, she has that clause in her contract that says she can go back to Grey’s Anatomy. So either way, I’m happy.

First of all, I think that Grey’s is losing its touch. Second season was awesome and third is stuggling to match. Kate Walsh is an awesome actress and I love her, but I fear for her career in GA. Frankly I fear for GA. If the show flops…will it be the end of GA as we know. Will it slowly crumbling like the Russian Empire, once great, then taken over by the own citizens? What is GA falls because of the viewers? Personally, GA need a boost, I’m just not sure how, but I know Private Practice can’t be the solution. Anyway, when the show Private Practice, they better show it on a different night at 9:00 ( I can’t stay up to 10:00 to watch T.V ) Anyway, Kate Walsh is hot and amazing!!!
I am really tired of not seeing the show Grey’s Anatomy continue on a regular basis. They just don’t seem to care if we continue to watch current programs. Just drop the plot like a hot potato and put on what they please without any warning. Discusting! ABC needs to wise up.

im excited for the show because that means that addison and alex have to hook up first. I’ve been waiting for that for like EVER. I wonder what mark does because it says that he “fails” at his 60 no sex thingy. Hmmm… i wonder who it is that makes him “fail”???
From what I understand it’s in Walsh’s contract that if the spinoff fails, she goes back to GA. Wouldn’t YOU make that a condition of the deal? The woman’s busted her butt for years in Hollywood. Give her a break and support the spinoff. Plus, she’ll FINALLY get all the screen time she deserves. Devo, you’re so right!!! Kate Walsh worked her butt off all her life. At 14, she was working in a Burger King. She typed up reports for her stepfather to make money. All this woman knows is to work and work. I feel sorry for her. She worked as a waiteress in Manhatten, she worked everywhere!!! She deserves this. I’ll watch totally watch it. I was going to watch it anyway. I LOVE HER!!! She deserves more than 2 seconds. Sometimes, I think she’s not even in the episode! Yet, she’s an awesome actress that should be in award winning movies!!

I loved the show last night!! I was thinking to myself that it would make a kick ass spin off!! Guess I was the last to know lol. I am a HUGE fan of Taye Diggs and his wife Idina Menzel and I hope that this show does aire because I want him to bounce back onto the screen. I love Kate Walsh and I think the move would be good for Addison but if she did move, I doubt that Grey’s Anatomy would be completely out of the picture.
The Other Side of This Life was the 2nd time I watched Greys Anatomy. I am now a fan. I loved the characters in California so much. I was hoping it would spin off. Please spin.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love watching Grey’s Anatomy and I will continue to watch it but I really felt that Kate Walsh wasn’t getting enough screen time and Addison is such a cool character, so it makes me excited that there will be a show dedicated to her.

I just read an interview with Kate Walsh and she said that she is so happy to be working with a new ensemble and is excited for the spin off. She said that she doesn’t know what will happen if Private Practice doesn’t continue, and that she might now go back to GA.
Do you really want to risk that? I mean, come on! Addison is just a character. She’s barely been on GA and even so she wasn’t happy. Its not like Kate Walsh is going to play a different character in Private Practice, she’s STILL Addison.
Kate is happy. Addison is happy. With the new show there is a wide range of possible storylines and the cast is awesome. Why would you jeprodize that?
What if Kate decided not to go back to GA? Then you would totally lose Addison.
I think that they should keep the new show. I hope that the ratings go up because I thoroughly enjoyed last thursday’s episode.

I have to admit I thought the spin-off was a horrible idea … buuuut..
I absolutely LOVED the two hour episode introducing Private Practice.
It was so good ! I cant believe people are against this. Two is always better than one! Kate Walsh is still Addison, that means Private Practice will still inter-mingle with GA every now and then. I’m so excited. More story lines, and now it’s almost like a double dose of Grey’s Anatomy a week!

Yes i totally agree with this idea ! plus the actors who were in the double episode were great and one reaaaally handsome (wait… i’m not saying that he was more handsome than Patrick Dempsey… THAT’s IMPOSSIBLE…) but still.. handsome, so yeah, i hope it will be broadcasted in France ! anyway, i’ll find a way to see it.

I’m sooooo happy for Adison and Kate Walsh! I’m sure this show will do great, everyone who sees GA will probably see this show, no matter what they say. I think it’ll be great, and we all know what an amazing cast it has. The only thing that i hate is that she’ll have to leave GA, she was one of my favoroit characters!
