Did you think about the setting of the show..winter in Seattle...the winter jackets...it's COLD...????
Once a warm human body hits cold water temps. chances are the body will go into shock..can't talk..can't move...usually problems breathing ect...(maybe the reason why she said she had so much more to say, in her thoughts, verse words)
Suicidal - NO!
Body processes shutting down - YES!
Body going into shock - YES!
Also, next weeks show title...something about a "Miracle"...(Grey's Ipod cast via ABC.com, interview with 2 of the writers about last weeks show and this coming week)

Reading everyone's comments has been great--it's like a fix to get me through until 8pm on Thursday. I'm glad I'm not the only addict on the planet!
I'm also hoping that the mammalian reflex thing will keep Meredith alive. I can't imagine the show without her and McDreamy, and the thought of his grief if she does die is almost too much to deal with.
I will say that they need to stop picking on Meredith for a while. She almost got blown up in the first season; she had appendicitis in the second season; now this--and that's not even counting all of her angst over finding out Derek was married. Seriously, Shonda, leave her alone and let her find some happiness!

I think the best odds are that it will be Derek.
1) It would be a "devastating conclusion"
2) It would be someone "we don't expect:
3) The How To Save a Life preview video shows a car accident. I think Derek leaves the hospital distraught thinking she's dead and crashes his car and dies. Meanwhile the "stubborn, know-it-all" interns save her.
4) Shonda asks in her blog who Derek is if he doesn't know "how to save a life?"
5) Shonda has been know to kill off popular male characters whose names begin with D.
