Ellen Pompeo, Chris Ivery Engaged!
Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery, her boyfriend of nearly three years, are officially engaged, Us Weekly reports.
Ivery, 38, proposed on Friday -- which was Pompeo's 37th birthday -- with a 3.5-carat emerald-cut diamond and platinum ring by Tacori.
That's quite the birthday gift, but their relationship is laid-back. Chris popped the question after breakfast at home, and following that, he and Ellen proceeded to celebrate with a fairly low-key day.
"We had a great day," Pompeo told People. "We walked on the beach, then we came home, took a shower and went out for sushi. Then we laid on the couch with the dogs and watched TV."
Pompeo has risen to fame as Meredith Grey on Grey’s Anatomy. She has also starred in various movies, including Old School and Moonlight Mile. Ivery is a music producer she met in an L.A. grocery store, and though Pompeo wasn't interested in a date originally, she agreed to go out with Ivery when they bumped into each other again six months later.
That's when they discovered that they grew up 10 miles from each other outside of Boston and that Chris knew Ellen's father.
"I had to go 3,000 miles away to meet a guy who practically grew up next door," Pompeo told the Boston Herald last year. "But I guess everything comes full circle."
Although the couple has not yet set a date or location for the big day, the romantic European destination of Italy might be a good guess.
"My boyfriend and I travel to Italy quite often and I think that’s always the most romantic for us," Pompeo told Us earlier this year. "We went to Bologna and he has family there and I think that’s our favorite place."

Im happy, because it seems that she is happy with him, but i think that she deserves better, she is so freaking gorgeous and chris is definetly not hot!!! He looks old... and so is jill, patrick dempseys wife.
Patrick and Ellen should really hook up, They look so good together, and jill and chris are so ugly for both of them!

Congratulations to Ellen and Chris who are so down to earth and obviously in love! The fact that they have dated for three years shows just how commited they are, they do not HAVE to get married but choose to celebrate their relationship by doing so, kudos to them! In response to a couple of opinions by tllaird and mega: opinions are free to share but tllaird's is very narrowminded; to say that all multiracial couples are whores and pimps shows that you yourself must only have exposed yourself to whores and pimps so you apparently are in the gutter to know those types of folk. Upstanding citizens know other upstanding citizens and the same is true for gutter trash......they assimilate to their own. Mega: grow up; compatibility has very little to do with how a couple look together. More importantly they connect by spirit and thats the only thing that will sustain a true relationship.... not two hotties hooking up..... write in when you graduate grammer school please!

So I saw the couple and read the article and thought it was nice to see a Hollywood couple coming together and not breaking apart (though there is time for that to happen!) Anyway as I scrolled down to the bottom of the story I noticed the comment section and immediately thought "okay, there is going to be at least one racist chiming in." Sure enough Tillarid comes in to fill the role of a$$hole, injecting negativity in a string of comments that universally wished the couple well. At least descent non color obsessed folks vastly out number idiots like Tillarid both on this forum and increasingly in the world. Progress is good.

Regardless of color, I have a feeling this relationship will be no different than many other hollywood hookups. If Ellen was smart, she'd marry outside the industry. Marrying someone in the music biz does not qualify. But, I hope I'm wrong and I hope they enjoy a long life together.
I give it 2 years... Anyone wanna put a wager on this one?

I really do feel that Americans need to grow up!! The racist remarks and immaturity is just unbelievable. Cannot anyone just be happy for a couple instead of beating them down before they even tried?? The racist comments show nothing but ignorance. And those of you who made those comments: if you trace your line back you probably aren't one pure race anyway. The world is better when people can fall in love and express it regardless of of what color, creed, or age they are. I wish them the best and hope that their marriage lasts.

you know...when i first read that they were engaged, I was so happy for them. It hadnt even occured to me that there might be issues due to their race, because, at least in my society, race is not an issue. But when i read the ignorant comments of people who clearly have never left the confines of their own little corner, I was shocked and disgusted. To imply that interracial marriages are "bad" and that the only way they work out is if they are whores and pimps is disgusting. Clearly, the minds of such ignorant people has still not progressed beyond the mental capacity of mice. Honestly, do you feel good about yourself when you say these things? its disgusting.
