Tonight: Don't Stand So Close to Me

Conjoined twins. Adult twins. It sounds a bit ER-like, but we have no doubt that the Grey's Anatomy writers and producers will turn this scenario into some compelling drama tonight.

Sexy McDreamyPresumably, the close-knit brothers must be separated, and Derek and Mark - once close-knit (and practically brothers, in Derek's words) themselves - will be forced to work together and perform a nearly-impossible operation.

It will be interesting to watch the parallels between the patients and these two surgeons, as well as how the relationships withstand such incredible stress.

It will also be interesting to monitor Derek's relationship with Meredith - but that goes without saying at this point.

We know that Dr. Hahn (Brooke Smith) will be back, and sooner or later, Mr. O'Malley has to have his surgery. When he does, odds are that she'll be performing it. As for Dr. Burke, he must deal with the fallout from his blow-up with Cristina and being outed in front of the Chief. How Miranda treats Dr. Yang after these developments reamins to be seen as well.

We'll have our episode guide, quotes, pictures and music list from the episode up as soon as we can. If this is half as good as "From a Whisper to a Scream," we're in for a treat this evening.

Round Table: From a Whisper to a Scream

This week on the Round Table, Dr. Burke's future is left in doubt, Dr. Hahn makes her presence felt, Alex and Addison share an intense moment, and Seattle Grace sees a new side of George ...

Dr. Burke: What's Next? What will happen to Dr. Burke?

McCritic: Anybody else is fired, stat. But this is Preston Burke. He may have to pass an extensive number of tests to make sure all tremors are in the past, but his reputation and mad skills will save his reputation. Soon enough, the Chief will deliver the two words we all love to hear: Carry on.

iheartizzie: It's doubtful he'll be shown the door, but his prospects of succeeding Richard as Chief of Surgery are on life support.

Married-to-McDreamy: Dr. Burke will be given the golden handshake. With his left hand, of course.

Would Dr. Hahn make a good addition to the staff?

Married-to-McDreamy: Yes. Not only is she a talented cardio-thoracic surgeon with a take-no-prisoners attitude, but she has great hair!

Dr. Hahn: Here to Stay?McCritic: A woman who seems focused on her job and not the opposite sex every second of every day? No way. She'd never fit in at Seattle Grace.

iheartizzie: Dr. Hahn is awesome. She kicked everyone's butt in medical school with the exception of one person, and that eats at her to this day. She's ruthless, but a consummate pro who also gives credit where it's due.

Her rivalry with Burke made both of them better surgeons, and a woman of Erica's talent and strength would invariably raise the bar for the staff.

Do you like the new George?

Married-to-McDreamy: Yes! It's about time George stood up for himself. The new George is finally showing that he is a strong person and it's going to earn him respect in the long run, even if he does manage to piss off all of his friends and colleagues in the meantime.

McCritic: The one that loves his father and remains loyal enough to Dr. Burke to keep his secret quiet? Yeah. He's a pretty good guy.

iheartizzie: Meek, confused and bumbling George is endearing and someone we've grown to love. But you have to stand up for yourself and act strong sometimes, especially when it comes to family. It's good to see that Bambi can evolve into a strong buck, if you will, when the situation calls for it. Sincere apologies for the awful deer analogy.

Would Addison and Alex work as a couple?

McCritic: No. Never. Don't even think about it. Stop sticking your stethoscope on the hospital torso, doctors. There are members of the opposite sex outside Seattle Grace, you know. Sexual tension and awkardness is high enough on this show without any more OR-gies taking place among the staff.

iheartizzie: The sexual tension between Dr. Montgomery and the Vagina Squad Captain is palpable. While this pairing would seem, on the surface, completely illogical, being confined to Addison's service for a time allowed Alex to grow in ways we never knew he could. Maybe these two will share more than just the moment last week. Plus, in Dr. Karev's own words, Addison is McHot, and the Insider wants to start a poll in which readers choose the official couple name - Addex, Alexison, Montgomerev, etc.

Married-to-McDreamy: I'm not sure if they would work as a couple, due to their strong personalities, but they sure do look good together! I would love to see that relationship develop.

Grey's Anatomy Caption Contest XXXIII

Great Caption Contest responses this week, people. Not as many as we would have hoped for, but quality definitely wins out over quantity, as they say, and that was certainly true in this case.

The glass shard removed from a patient's heart by Burktina inspired many a funny caption from our readers. The temptation was to name the very first submission - by Bryan Adams, or at least someone using his name and tying in a reference to one of the Canadian rocker's hit songs - but it turned out that many warranted serious consideration.

Jules, Kimmy and curiousgeorge came close, as did many others who wrote in with their captions. Yet there can be only one winner, and there was little doubt among the Insider's staff members who that should be. luvthisshow, we luvyourcaption. Congratulations!

The winning response appears below. Scroll down to read the full list of captions. Thanks to all for participating and good luck this week!

Here's this week's Caption Contest image...

Cuts Like a Knife?

Hmm... look what I just pulled out of my back. Wonder who put that there?

Cristina Yang: Woman Without Sound

Cristina Maintains Focus... BarelyDevoted fans probably noticed that the voiceover during the beginning and end of "From a Whisper to a Scream" was by Cristina (right), a departure from the usual narration provided by Meredith.

This has occurred twice before in the show's brief history - in "What Have I Done to Deserve This," when George provided the narration after his awful experience with Meredith, and during the season-ending "Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response," when the entire staff delivered an ominous introduction.

Despite being extended by 10-15 minutes from the show's usual hour-long time slot, the episode airing on Thanksgiving featured only three songs, which is less than the average of 5-7 songs per episode.

The reason for this? The writers felt that while nearly every cast member has a soundtrack playing in their heads, Cristina would not have one, for she is so incredibly focused at all times. Since Dr. Yang's inner turmoil was the focal point of the episode, the writers decided to reduce the amount of music.

At least the three selections were good ones. Many fans have discussed "9 Crimes" by Damien Rice as a terrific inclusion, and Kate Havnevik (whose "New Day" was featured Thursday) is one of the producers' favorites.

About Brooke Smith (a.k.a. Dr. Hahn)

Brooke SmithIn reprising the character of Erica Hahn, a no-fills, abrasive and brilliant heart surgeon seen at the end of Season 2, Brooke Smith was one of the many highlights of last Thursday's thrilling episode, "From a Whisper to a Scream."

We're not sure how long she'll be sticking around - although we do know she will appear in this week's "Don't Stand So Close to Me" - we thought you might like to know a little about this talented actress.

Growing up in New York, in the shadow of show business as the daughter of powerful publicist Lois Smith, Brooke's big break came as Catherine Martin, the abducted young girl in The Silence of the Lambs.

Other key roles included Sonya in Louis Malle's Vanya on 42nd Street, as well as Dawn in Daniel Minahan's Series 7: The Contenders. Her TV credits include Law & Order, Six Feet Under, Heist and Crossing Jordan. Smith, 39, has more than three dozen movie and TV credits to her name.

Whether she is humming a Tom Petty tune, like her character does in Silence of the Lambs, or showing a different side of pregnancy as she did in Series 7, Smith is known for giving brooding, intense performances - as Grey's Anatomy fans have seen from the four episodes she's appeared in.

In addition to acting, she also enjoys filmmaking. She has directed a short film and a feature length documentary, and published interviews with actors Steve Buscemi, Ed Harris and Fred Ward (who also guest starred on Grey's Anatomy this year as Denny, Sr.), among others.

A medical school rival and frequent adversary (but nonetheless, respected colleague) of Preston Burke, Dr. Hahn adds yet another dynamic presence to Seattle Grace Hospital. Hopefully we get to see more of her.

Ellen Pompeo On How She Distracts Chris Ivery During Grey's Anatomy

Ellen Pompeo in AllureI guess even the best jobs have their drawbacks.

Ellen Pompeo, who's featured on the cover of December's Allure magazine, dishes on how she attempts to keep her fiance, Chris Ivery, from watching her steamy sex scenes on Grey's Anatomy:

"I thought I was being really clever in distracting him right at 9:00 and I asked him if he could help me with the laundry so that he wouldn't see that portion of the show. Then, 20 minutes later, he realized, 'The show's on and we're not watching it.'"

"That's when I said, 'That's okay, we can get to it.' He said, 'Oh well, I have it TiVo'd so we're okay.' I knew [the steamy scene with Patrick Dempsey] was right in the beginning, so I thought, 'If I can just sort of preoccupy him for 15 minutes, I'm good.'"

Funny stuff. Obviously Ellen and Chris have been able to work around the steamy aspect of her occupation. Below are two scans from the article. Click to enlarge (as well as with the cover photo above)!

Katherine Heigl Talks About Fame, Grey's Anatomy, Down Time, Knitting, Etc.

Katherine Heigl has been on camera since she was nine years old, but the flashbulbs have never been brighter for the Grey's Anatomy star.

Katherine Heigl: Famous and HappyThe 27-year-old blonde beauty, who plays Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, said she's still adjusting to the challenges of fame. But she digs the perks: One acting gig helped Heigl find her fiance, singer-songwriter Josh Kelley. She was hired to star in his music video, and the two ended up engaged.

Kelley was by Heigl's side when she was honored recently by Cosmopolitan magazine. Editor Kate White hosted an intimate dinner to celebrate her appearance on the cover of December's issue. The actress' manager (who happens to be her mom) and co-stars T.R. Knight and Kate Walsh were also there to toast Heigl.

Katherine took time out to talk about the pressures and pleasures of celebrity in an interview with the Associated Press. Here's what she had to say:

AP: What's it like to become instantly famous?

KATHERINE HEIGL: It's weird. I've been doing this for so long and I always imagined what it might be like to have this success, but you can't really know what it will be like. The most pivotal point was at the "upfronts" (where broadcasters present programs to advertisers) in New York last year. People would come up to me and tell me how much they loved the show, and New Yorkers just don't do that! The excitement for the show was just unbelievable. I've been waiting 15 years for this kind of success and I'm just so grateful and really thrilled. It's definitely overwhelming at times.

AP: Is there a downside?

KATHERINE HEIGL: With all the magazines, there's so much access into people's personal lives. You feel watched all the time and it feels like you can't be yourself, like you can't go to the grocery store unless you're wearing a cute outfit and look perfect. But I feel like I'm learning how to live with it and be myself regardless of judgment or criticism. All I really care about are the people I love. It is overwhelming. I think it takes experience.

AP: What's it like to see yourself on the cover of Cosmopolitan?

KATHERINE HEIGL: This is huge for me. I've always read Cosmo and loved the covers, the fashion spreads and the sex advice. It feels sort of like an out-of-body experience, like it's happening to someone else.
