Three Burning Grey's Anatomy Questions

Okay, so there's no new episode on tonight. After we stopped crying, we pulled it together and took the time to reflect on the five episodes of Season 3 that we've been treated to thus far.

Then we found three burning Grey's Anatomy questions in People magazine and thought we'd share them with you. Let us know what you think -- and pose ongoing questions of your own by clicking on "comments" below and sharing your thoughts!

1. Is Izzie milking it? Or losing it?

Izzie Stevens: Perpetual Mourning? The thing about Izzie (Katherine Heigl) is that you're expected to always be worrying about her, and that gets exhausting. It's an Izzie tizzy!

She's almost literally paralyzed by grief over the death of Denny Duquette (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) -- understandable, since they made a great romantic team. Now she's worth $8.7 million and dreamily wondering how to use it.

As of last week, though, no one could quite persuade her to deposit the check. "I'm fine," she kept saying, with a smile, but also with a faraway look in her eyes. She's probably seeing Denny's spirit somewhere on the horizon. Feel like going back to work at some point?

2. Has Dr. Bailey gone soft?

The staff still refers to Miranda as The Nazi, but since she had her baby, has she become too much of a softie? And is that a bad thing?

Dr. Bailey: Softer Nazi?In the season premiere, "Time Has Come Today," she actually wept along with a patient. In "What I Am," she had an inspiring talk with a salesman whose face had been burned severely. This shows us a different side of Miranda, but is it the kind we want to see?

Chandra Wilson is too clever an actress not to suggest that Dr. Bailey must have been bluffing, to some degree, when she told the salesman how love and respect were what mattered in his career, and not his face. It's just that Bailey used to boast such conviction and bluntness.

She hasn't done a complete 180, but at times, she's close.

3. Can we move past Washingtongate?

It's unfortunate (not to mention frustrating and annoying) that reports of Isaiah Washington's real-life fight with Patrick Dempsey disrupted the show's free-floating romance. Grey's Anatomy is more about the invisible chemistry of love and friendship than the clinical practice of medicine.

T.R. Knight is a very good actor in a very good cast, and his character, Dr. George O'Malley, was always more of an underdog -- an unsung everyman, rather than a McDreamy-style hunk.

There's no reason any true fan won't be behind Knight 100 percent of the way, and pulling for O'Malley sort out his feelings for Drs. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez), as usual.

But it may take a few episodes to get past all the distraction, especially if some members of the media keep beating it to death.

  1. GA4ever Says:

Season 3 is a disappointment so far. Grey's anatomy becomes "soap-opera". Endless sex scences between characters (which do not even help the story lines), unrealistic patients, and a terrible on-set fight among actors using homophobic slur. Who could have imagined this after watching such a classy and beautiful season 2? Sigh...

  2. Allie Says:

Yes, it's a night-time soap opera. Also called a DRAMA. Where were these pointless sex scenes that you talk of? That's what people do. They have sex. But that's not all the show has been about. Read the article above! Dr. Bailey's struggle with motherhood, Izzie's struggle with a dead finance..... Obviously GA4ever really means GA4sometimes

  3. Grey forever Says:

I like season 3 it is great like were the two first seasons. So if GA4ever and other dark and twisty people don't like it they can stop watching. If I don't like a show I stop watching it after the first or second episode and respect that others enjoy these. This is only television so let us have our fantasy world. You seem to take it all so seriously. It is certainly soo much better then all those violent series with killing and shooting.

  4. Bonnie M Says:

Shonda and her staff do their research there are no unrealistic patients. The same sex is there that was there the previous 2 seasons. Just because things aren't going the way you want just wait things will change. They haven't been on top due to bad writing. And I don't know why people can't let the problem between Isaiah and Patrick go. You would think they didn't have anything better to do.

  5. mj Says:

That's the same question I was wondering too. Endless sex scenes? Apparently someone is not watching the same GA we're watching because there is actually less sex scenes this season, and less romance. Hopefully they'll do something about that soon, but I'll wait. This season has been great. Not one episode has disappointed me, not one! I think the reason why some people are disappointed is because their diehard Mer/Der fans, and it does matter to me. My heart belong to Burke/Cristina. If people are not loyal GA fans (forever not sometimes), then they shouldn't watch. And OMG, would they just please move on about the fight...jeeez! You would think they would be bore by now and sick of hearing themselves speak about it. As much as they would like to keep it going, it's over.

  6. Dawn Says:

I Love the show, so far season three is awesome. Seriously, I'm just dissapointed tonight is a rerun.

  7. Burke Backer Says:

Has Izzie lost it? I don't think so. I think she is working through the grief in a typical Izzie way, with lots of emotion and energy. I am ready for her to move on, but don't think she has been at all out of character. There were so many wonderful tender moments between Izzie and Alex, I hope we can get back to that. I love the sweet and sentimental Izzie that over decorates at Christmas time and invites everyone to Thanksgiving dinner even when she doesn't know how to cook. Let's get passed Denny.

Has Bailey gone soft? In my mind, Bailey has always been soft on the inside. I think about her standing atthe head of the table when Cristina was going through surgery with her hands on either side of Cristina's head standing guard, or how broken hearted she was when Jeremiah died. She is a perfect blend of strong and soft. She may push the interns and demand excellence, but when push comes to shove she really cares about them and her patients and it has always come through..

Can Grey's get past the fight between Isaiah and Patrick? Please remember that It wasn't one person involved here, it was two. We don't know what was said that lead up to the actual altercation. We know that T.R. Knight was late for a shooting. We know that Isaiah was angry about it and said something inappropriate and Patrick defended him. We also know that Isaiah did not through some slur at T.R. He wasn't even present. We also know that an apology has been given by Isaiah and from all we can tell accepted. Why T.R. was not expected to apologize for holding up the shooting, which started all of this to begin with, or why Patrick was not asked to apologize for his part in the problem which some stay started on their location shoot of a camping trip, I don't know. Maybe they did apologize and it just didn't make good reading in the gossip magazines. In terms of the free floating love that you describe above, I didn't really see much of that between Derek and Burke anyway. I saw mutual respect and a lot of competitiveness between Burke and McDreamy. The closest they ever seemed to come was the bombing episode when they shared that danger. It was the deep love between Derek and Meredith and between Preston and Cristina that attracted me to the show and keeps me coming back. The free floating love is among the interns. Since none of the five interns were involved in the actual argument, I can't see why this would impact it at all. If it were Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington that really disliked each other off screen, or Ellen and Patrick that dispised each other off screen, it would ruin it for me. As Shonda says this was 5 1/2 seconds in three years. They've gone past it. We certainly should, too.

Have you noticed that the US magazine does not invite reader's opinions? I would love to write them a letter to tell them how poorly I think they have handled this whole thing, but there is no where to write.

  8. purplemerder Says:

I don't know where people get the sex thing in this season....

I think that Izzie is just doing normal greiving...Except i would DEPOSIT the check...

I love the new Bailey...If after having a baby she didn't not explore the more motherly caring side then I would worry...So if people have a problem they definitily don't know how being a parent changes you....

The fight thing needs to be left along...as far as US magazine....they are just reporting the gossip, which by the way is what they make their money off of). And it is still going on cuz the mag only comes out once a week and so they are right on time.....I hate that Burke said a negative comment about George's sexuality, but we are all human and when you spend 18 hours a doay with people you say things in haste.....you always hurt the one's you love...I hope he apoligized because he felt it not for the public...and I respect that McDreamy stuck up for George and should be commended for standing up for someone that was being bashed behind his back...so why should he apoligize....but all in all I still love GA and though I wish that the writers would hurry up and let mer/der be happy together this is TV people and the fact that they are dragging it out is part of the reason we all love it...........

  9. Vicki Says:

Izzy.... I get it - she's greiving..but it's time to move on. I also get it that she loved him and Denny was a superiffic guy...however she was his finace for a whole 45 minutes. Its television - they need a story line ..but it's definately time for izzy to move on. (oh - and this is just CONSTRUCTIVE critism ...i would still watch if Izzie struggled for years with this....)
Baily ....PLEASE bring back the NAZI! I love cocky sassy Baily with an OCCASIONAL soft spot. But lately she crying and sappy a little too much than was introduced to us in the beginning. People change, i get that, especially after children (trust me i have 3) ...but she's Bailey...the Nazi ...and I just love her when she says things like "What have you done with my suck-ups?"...and "No one holds a scaple until I'm so happy I'm Mary Freakin Poppins" (one of the very BEST lines I've ever heard!)
And the Washington thing ...get over it media people. God ...like no one goes home and is in a bad mood and kicks their dog and regrets it? (not that i would ever kick a dog...but you know) ....ok - it was a fight - they are tired - they work like crazy - and they have the media up in their faces when they go to the grocery store..... give them some space to vent ... The best people to fight with are family ...you sometimes say things you dont mean - and they still love you 10 minutes later when you are choking on the foot in your mouth.
All in all - HUGE Greys addict here. I refrain from using fan...because I crossed that OCD line somewhere after McDreamy said "I have a thing for Ferryboats" .....hmmmmm. Gotta love him...if only he wasnt so ......FICTIONAL!!!! They dont make 'em like that in real life. URGH!

  10. Jennifer Says:

I JUST LOVE THIS SHOW!!! =)

  11. Cherish Says:

First of all, I totally stand by TR!! I support him 100%!! I love me some George! ;)

Izzie, I love sweet, dear, sensitive Izzie. I understand she is grieving, but I agree that yes, she does need to move on now. I can't wait for her to go back to work *crosses fingers*!!!

As far as Baily goes, I miss the hard-sassy-quick-witted-sarcastic Baily, but either way I love her!!

BTW, what's up with the rerun!?! I was so disappointed, I needed my Grey's fix! It's official I am completely and utterly addicted and can't wait to see what happens next!

  12. justin Says:

Isaiah should be canned. Not really for his bigotted attitude or gigantic ego but mainly for his poor acting skills. Sandra Oh carries him in every single scene. I usually fast forward the dvd-r when his scenes are on so as not to get completely bored. His story line is a bit of a snooze too. They should knock out his character and bring up someone more interesting. I know that Shonda is a bit fixed in her commitment to keep Burke but she surely has the talent to write him out and create a new love interest for Christina.

  13. Still Burke's Backer Says:

Those are fighting words, Justin. Isaiah Washington is Preston Burke. It is the way he smiles, walks, words things, looks half-way embarrassed (like when he walked into her messy apartment). It is the way IW plays the part that makes me love Burke. The chemistry between Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington is outstanding, but neither one carries the scene from my perspective. I thing they do great things together. They are both outstanding actors and I'm so glad that Shonda has found them, created a story line for them, and has put them together for us. I'm sorry you are having a personal issue with this. But, for heavens sake, get past it and don't even suggest firing someone so central to the show or that anyone else could play Burke. Isaiah Washington has brought this character to life and it is his artistic talent that has made a character that could have been arrogant and completely unlikeable into someone many of us care about. Like Sandra Oh said in speaking about Burke in the commentary on season 2, "I love the way he loves her." So do I and the show would lose something extraordinary if it lost this character or this actor.

  14. Bonnie M Says:

You can tell the real GA fans from the really I don't know what you would call them. Real fans would drop it and move on. I try to limit my comments until someone says something that gets under my skin. Isaiah made a mistake like so many people do I don't remember anyone saying he makes a habit of this. I don't think I will find a perfect person until the Good Lord calls me home. That point aside Nobody deserve to get fired and Isaiah is a great actor just like everyone else. It takes everyone involved to make this show a hit. I'll admit it took some of them longer to grow on me than others but you take the good with the bad. That's what true fans do.

  15. mj Says:

IMO, the only entertainment media that reports the entertainment news with style, without having to put their own little twist to it, would be Entertainment Tonight. You don't have to be sleazy to report entertainment news. And what really gets me is how they said Shonda and the other cast members have downplayed the incident. I don't feel that their downplaying anything, they just prefer to move on (even though the media would like to keep it going) and do what they do best- entertain.

  16. Sitaannew Says:

    Hello
all this not it is correct , it is correct only that

    jeep wrangler

    Bye
