Rhimes: Grey’s Wedding in the Works
Perhaps she was just eager to talk about anything but the controversy that has been surrounding her hit show in recent weeks, but Shonda Rhimes — the notoriously secretive creator and executive producer of Grey's Anatomy — threw fans a major piece of gossip in a recent interview.
"There's going to be a wedding in the near future," she told People magazine. "And it's going to be spectacular."
Rhimes' comments to the magazine regarding star Isaiah Washington and his alleged remarks toward co-star T.R. Knight were published Thursday. The print version of People contains a considerably longer article, however, which included this minor spoiler from Shonda.
The unabridged report also included additional interviews with the cast. Both James Pickens, Jr., who plays Dr. Webber, and memorable guest star Jeffrey Dean Morgan defended Washington's character and downplayed the fight that has dominated headlines of late.
Rhimes didn't say who would get married or how soon, of course, but the prospect of a Grey's Anatomy wedding already has us guessing.
We certainly have some ideas, as you surely do. Who do you think it is, and when do you think it will occur? We'll have to wait and see.
I’m keeping my hands cross for Burke and Cristina. They’ve come such a long way. If they don’t get married this season, hopefully they can get engaged, and married by early next season. Come on Shonda, you can do it.

I bet it’s probably not as big of a deal as we’re supposed to think. Maybe the Chief and his wife will get remarried? Or it will be the dying wish of a patient and the whole staff will take part? I’m definitely interested…
I am thinking the chief and his wife will renew their vows.
My 2nd choice would be Burke and Cristina but that’s a long shot in my opinion lol.
I don’t think burke and christina will get married yet. i think it’s too soon/obvious. i think it will be someone not in the main cast.
Of course a lot of people are wanting Derek and Meredith to get back together and live happily ever after and have a baby before the show ends. I can’t see Cristina wanting a big wedding. But my first guess I am thinking Mark and Addison then they will go back to New York.
I think its Meredith and Derek because so many fans are complaining about their relationship in season 3–on the ABC GA website over 1200 posts in response to the writers blog, MANY seriously unhappy with how things are going with Mer-Der. Some losing interest in the show….I think this may be Shonda telling fans to hang in there, it will be worth it…
It definitely won’t be Mer/Der. It wouldn’t be believable. They’ve been apart so long, and really haven’t gone through much in turns of a couple, other then just being apart. If anyone comes close, it would be B/C. Remember Shonda said “in the near future.” That could be close to the end of the season, and I can see that happening for B/C at the end of the season.
Maybe it’s McDreamy’s sister… why else would she come down? Maybe she is coming down/visiting b/c of her wedding… i highly doubt its mer/der or chris/burke… but joe and his bf is an idea too… lets wait and see!
Oh, I really hope it is Burke and Cristina. They would be fun because I think she will be just as big a hand full after they are married as she is before. As much as I love her sometimes I just have to think Bless Burke’s heart for putting up with her. How fun! We could get both of those mothers together trying to out boss the other one. Joe and his boyfriend would also be fun. We don’t know them as well though, so I don’t know that the word spectacular would be used. I don’t see Richard and his wife getting back together. In fact, I don’t see Adelle being back on the show at all. I’m still kind of hopeful for Ellis having some lucid moments and would like to see Richard be with her through the scariness that is alzheimers disease. I can’t imagine Addison marrying Mark. No matter how hot he is, he is just not marriage material. Derek and Meredith will take longer, I think. Izzie and Alex haven’t even realized that they belong together yet. George and Calli can’t seem to be on the same page at the same time, and Bailey is already happily married to Tucker. The only pair really both in love with each other at the same time are Burke and Cristina, and, well, Joe and his partner. So, I am crossing my fingers for Burke and Cristina.
My money is on Joe and his boyfriend or Addison and Mark. Because Shonda did say in an interview that the wedding invloves two of trhe main characters and since Eric Dane and Kate Walsh aren’t signed on for the next season, I mean it fits don’t you thing? It would put a happy twist to the whole love triangle/cheating thing.
But I’m just going to wait and see.

I would love it to be Meredith and Derek but their relationship has been so up and down, they haven’t even told each other they love each at the same time, of course they should be probably be together first, which they still aren’t! A Cristina and Burke wedding would be hilarious just to see both of their moms planning a wedding together (does anyone remember Diahann Carroll battling it out with Patty LaBelle in A Different World with Dwayne and Whitley’s wedding?). I’d go with the Joe/Boyfriend or the idea that a patient is getting married and asks all the surgeons to be in the wedding.
I’d have to agree that it would be too soon for Burke and Cristina upon their actions. It would be just ridiculous for Meredith and McDreamy to be in that state of mind. Joe and his boyfriend sounded pretty convincing. But, a re-marriage for the Cheif and his wife sounded a little more convincing. A good come back for the show. A few of the episodes in the beg. of the new season had me dissappointed. That never kept me from watching it though.
Mark/Addi would be SO CUTE! I don’t beleive it’s that though- they’re not even together yet! Definitly not MerDer- too soon. Not Cheif/his wife either- they’re split for good, I think. Maybe Christina/Burke, but probly not- they’re not very exciting this season. I think it’s Der’s sis- that would explain the visit. But then again, I would hope if it’s so big, that it would be a main character.

I don’t think it’s going to be one of the main characters getting married. I agree with whoever said this before, I think it’s Dereks sister. AND this is a stretch but Mark was hugging Dereks sister in a preview. MAYBE Derek and Mark will be in this wedding, forcing them to be somewhat friendly. yea…long shot, I know. But I doubt it will be main characters actually getting married because I don’t think she would have said anything then.

I think it might be Izzie/Denny but it would be her like dreaming about what her wedding would be about, but it also could be Derek/McDreamys sister because it said 2 main charctars are involved. That dosen’t mean they’re getting married they could just simply be part of the wedding party. But I don’t know ugh i hate how Shonda loves to play with our heads!
Let it be Mer/Der they truly love each other. Cristina isn’t into Burke all that much she is a stone cold surgeon.

This is fun to speculate about. I don’t really think of Joe and his boyfriend (don’t even remember his name) as main characters. Shonda said it would be a wedding involving main characters. We don’t know Derek’s sister yet, so I wouldn’t consider her a main character either. But, it could be that Derek and Addison will be in his sister’s wedding or that Mark cheated on Addison with Derek’s sister (like someone else suggested) and now she is pregnant with Mark’s baby and that they will get married. That wedding could involve main characters Addison and Derek (rethinking about their marriage, yet again) and Mark. I don’t see how it could possibly be Mark and Addison. There is still too much to figure out about both of them and their relationship with each other and with others to have them get married at this point. I hope it isn’t a dream wedding for Izzie and Denny because that would kind of be a cop out. It wouldn’t be real. Izzie would be a beautiful bride though. I disagree with whoever said that Cristina isn’t that much into Burke. She told him she loved him after the bombing episodes in season two, even though he was asleep at the time. I think she absolutely loves him, she just doesn’t have a clue how to show it and caring that much scares her to death. She is growing as a person, though, through their relationship. I think he is showing her how to love someone. She doesn’t like to be touched and yet seems content curled up in his arms. When ever he draws a line and says you have to decide, to commit, she does it. I would also love to see a wedding for Alex and Izzie, but Izzie isn’t over Denny yet. I think it will take this whole season to actually get Alex and Izzie back together. I think it will be a fun to watch Derek and Meredith discover what we all know and that is that they belong together, but I don’t see them getting married any time soon. There is still too much story there. It can’t be someone that the marriage will mean the end of the story. Their story is getting them together. That’s why I like Cristina and Burke, because marriage could be just the beginning of the story. They are already together. Their story is trying to figure out how to stay that way.

What if its Izzie and Alex? There were some suggestive moments between them. It was only a smile. But they were sincere.
I think it will be Derek and Meredith. Everyone knows they love each other. Meredith already told Derek when she found him, she was “done” looking. Derek told her he’s been in love with her “forever.”
After he gets some space, and clears his head, one thing will remain. He still loves Meredith. And when two folks are very clear about that - there’s no point in dragging it out. They have much to learn together. Marriage isn’t the end of a happy story - it’s just a beginning of a new story. I want Shonda to show the world you CAN have a successful show when the two love birds unite.
There are plenty of other reasons to watch Grey’s. I want to see them flirting and fighting at work, having to be always together, and making up after. Ooooh, I especially want to see that, but they can’t show us enough on TV!
I also think it will be a Derek and Addison flash back. From what I understand we are supose to see a lot more of them as the season goes on. I also read a rumor where Addison is supose to sling her wedding rings over the side of a ferryboat. That would be good to think about your wedding and throw your rings in anger I’ve seen a friend of mine do that more than once. It just proves there is so much more they can write to keep us interested for a long time.
I havent the slightest clue as to who will be married….but I’m hoping it’s Yang and Burke so far they are the only couple that is still together….I cant help but to think the impossible. What if it’s George?? Im kind of hoping that it’s a dream or a flashback I think marriage is too soon for any of the characters. What if we find out that Burke was married in the past?? Wow!! That would be good. My imagination is running wild!!!!
Hmm…this is hard, after six days, Mark and Addie seems to be a stretch. Meridith and Derek, need some more time. I’m thinking George and Callie. Though they seem a bit far apart at the moment, he might just pop the question, or Yang and Burke. I’m hoping it’s yang and burke though.
Mr Washington should go. What he has done is simply rude times 50. He is obviously a homophobe and just needs to go elsewhere and do some soul searching. The american people have been working incredibly hard for the last 25 years to become more politically correct and aware of diversity and respect human rights and feelings.
What universe did he come from that he is so inconsiderate about defaming labels! Like Nigger!
