Talk About a Love / Hate Relationship
Below is the perspective of Meredith... Goldstein, that is. She's a Boston Globe columnist, and we thought you'd like to see what she has to say about her namesake and the Grey's Anatomy protagonist:

I hate Meredith.
I have my reasons.
She whines incessantly and puts y's on the end of words that don't need them (after all, she's "dark and twisty").
She can't be alone, she only talks about her love life, and an entire hospital staff orbits around her.
She got her job because of her mom.
During the 15 seconds she was single, she met a perfect veterinarian who cooks.
She used a sick dog to perpetuate adultery.
She slept with a million guys and never freaked out to her roommates about whether she got an STD.
I hate her because McDreamy is a stupid nickname.
I hate Meredith for the same reason someone posted this note on a blog last winter at 2:20 a.m.: "I think Meredith's character needs to gain about 20 pounds and stop crying." And for the reason someone posted this one on a blog just a few months ago after last season's finale: "Meredith looks like some skeleton someone found on an archeological dig and did a voodoo spell on to bring her back to life. Someone get her a Twinkie, a pizza and a Luna Bar and fast."
At least Ally McBeal sang sometimes.
I hate Meredith because sometimes she has a lisp and sometimes she doesn't.
I hate her even more because the lisp is cute.
When Meredith is doing her job, which involves cutting people open and exposing their organs, I'm pretty sure she's thinking about boys. She breathes loud to be dramatic. She probably doesn't even have asthma!
She thinks she's unique -- everybody's parents get sick and divorced.
I hate Meredith because she wants what she can't have.
Because she's probably going to get her way.
Because if she doesn't get her way, I will feel incomplete.
And because tonight, against my better judgment, I will tune in and root for her just like everybody else.

Do you think maybe «an entire hospital staff orbits around her» because the show is called «Grey's Anatomy» ?
I think Meredith is great and I root for her as well.

finally!!!! i just got addicted to the show.. but i also have a love/hate relationship with meredith. she IS whiney... but god why do i root for her every week... and as for sleeping with a bunch of guys.... soooo many girls do that after a break up.. its normal!! but still... meredith annoys the shit out of me... im stickin my by girl izzy...

Hateful, irresponsible bit of so-called journalism. That an editor did not step in an put an end to this rant is beyond me.
To dislike a character on television is one thing, but to make such spiteful comments about the actress who plays said character is distasteful.
The actress, her family/friends/well-wishers as well as detractors will read this - think of the embarassment. And no, being a celebrity does not make her fair game to your cheap insults - very clever hiding behind "quotation marks".
Shame on you, Ms. Goldstein.

OK it's time for me to get on my high horse. First of all Cristina came up with McDreamy and you didn't even mention that. And I don't care who you are if you had a life like Meredith has had you wouldn't even be half as sane as she is. She has her moments and about 3/4 of it's someone else turning her world upside down. Their all friends and they orbit around each other. How can you say your rooting for her if all your going to do is bash her.

i think what this chick is trying to say she hates meredith because she likes her so much. she wishes she got MOST everything she wanted and her friends orbited around her problems and not theirs .. is that what you're trying to say? cause it sounds like it ..

I think the writer is just like every other Mer fan. One mintue you love her then the next you hate her. Right now, I dislike her and moved on to Addison.(For now at least)!

I love Meredith. I love the way she supports her friends. I love the way she shares her home with her roommates. I love the way she cares about her patients. But, I can't understand why she hesitated at all about her choice between Finn and Derek. That was annoying. I hope she comes to her senses soon. For two seasons she has loved Derek. Now he professes his love for her and she has to think about it? Seriously??

i love meredith's character. she has so many things in her life that most of us can relate to. i mean seriously. how many of you have had a thing in your life when you had to pick between two people? i mean it might not of been this BIG of a pick but i bet you've had at least one time when you've had this problem. i think it's good that meredith is taking her time picking between derek and finn. i don't think she needs to go running to derek right when he decides that he wants her. she needs to keep him hanging so that when she does pick him .. he'll be more greatful and he'll want her more than he ever did before. it's amazing how a television show can get you this freakishly obsessed. i love it!

Listen I know not everybody is perfect okay. By the way McDreamy is a fabulous nick. Everybody has problems okay. Yeah ok nobody's perfect. But what did you expect? Its a tv show ok. What did you want? Some perfect little twit? Thats not interesting to see.

I like Meredith, but the show needs to move along re her relationship with McDreamy. Either make it stick or move on, don't be like Jag and keep hanging on for 7 years, we got bored and left.

i think you'd be whiny too if you were in meredith's shoes
and i don't have a love/hate relationship at all with her
i just LOVE her
her and derek are meant to be together
if the fella u loved turned out 2 have a wife and ur mother had alzheimers and so on i would whine AND cry too
there is nothing wrong with crying
it's not as if shes a size zero either and mcdreamy is the best nickname ever
we don't wanna hear if you don't like meredith, so keep your REASONS to urself
we love her

ALSO meredith cares about others, especially her patients, even when she's having a rough time
AND she didn't get the job because of her mother
she is good at what she does
for crying out loud
the show is a phenomenon and shes the title character-i think that says it all

i think that this person is kind of right. I mean she's obviously jealous of meredith, i mean who isn't? shes good looking,has a cool job,has great friends and a gorgeous doctor is in love with her. But Meredith is quite whiny, and slightly self-centred - this doesn't mean that i hate her myself, just that i can see where the author is coming from. i have to say that i prefer izzy personally. and i love George!

merder don't be so stupid. after watching code black for the first time i have a newfound respect for Meredith. She is so brave and that anastesia doctor is a lowly coward who should be fired! i do however still love Izzy and George!

I have a friend call Nita .She Have a bad habits.She always tells lie.But se is very trustful,that why i am her friend.I would like everybody to give me some comment.
Sometimes I get very well with her like sister,but sometimes we hate each other.I hate her but yet she is kind to me.

I am sorry for the fans of Meredith that can't stand the fact that other's might have another opinion. By the way I will tell you something: IT is just (JUST) a TV show...Voila,
BTW: Yeah sure we are all super jealous of a TV show characther!
