If Addison did find the panties in Derek's coat I'm glad. It is what she deserves for walking in and ruining every thing between Derek and Meridith after she screwed around on him. She stayed with Mark even after Derek left and only came to Seattle after she found out Derek had meant someone else and moved on. She was the one who ruined their marrige and now we are supposed to see her as the victim? I do like Addison but not with Derek.
The only thing that could have made the season premier better was if it showed Derek dumping Addison, no matter who Meridith picks.

I can't believe that our station showed episode 2 instead of the opening episode this week! Meredith ends up just flipping a coin at the end but decides to date both Finn and Derek at the same time and tells them that. Christina has to deal with Burkes Mom. Addison puts Mer's panties on the board and Callie says that they are hers. Addison ends up with Mark coming out of the shower in her hotel room after sex and Dereks discovers them there! There marriage then is officially over. Will be a bore next week now that we have seen this. Yikes.

Overall, I was a little disappointed with the episode. I understand that it's a lot of set-up for things to come, but on its own, it wasn't a very good episode. Someone coming into Grey's Anatomy new this season might not be inclined to watch it again based on that. It just didn't stand on its own very well.
Also, I find myself caring less and less about Meredith. I'm glad other plots are being developed.
I wonder if the writers are having Richard and Adele split as a set-up for a possible hook up between Richard and Burke's mother?

I enjoyed the flashbacks and the new episode in general. It was interesting to see characters acting in uncharacteristic ways. Bailey was not the Nazi, but rather an emotional wreck over not being able to help Omar. Derek realized he could have missed his opportunity to tell Merideth that he loves her after a season of trying to deny it to himself. Cristina vulnerable as she asks Preston to never die. My personal favorite line in the whole show was Dr. Burke response to Cristina's plea, "I'll do my best." It was just about his only line (other than a flash back) in the whole episode, but I loved it. My most favorite thing about this entire show is the diversity of characters and the fact that race is so completely insignificant, as it should be in life. People are people, relationships are relationships, and at Seattle Grace ethnicity is not an issue. There is genius in that.

For sarah...Derek stayed at the hospital all night after the prom. He told Richard that he had performed a surgery that night and wanted to see if Richard could get someone to cover his rounds for that morning. But, Dr. Bailey came up and talked about all the patients they had, and he had to stay. He was wanting to go talk to Meredith before it was too late. I loved the episode. I do wish that Derek would have said something to Meredith about Addison...like I am leaving her...I guess when he said he made the wrong choice that means his marriage is over. I hope Meredith chooses Derek...their chemistry is so great.

Overall i thought the episode was FAB!! and i didn't mind at all the flashbacks especiall the part with addison and derek was super intense. Also all the other flashbacks was in one way or another related to the theme of the episode so it was all good.
And I want to see more of Burke and Christina so i can't wait for the next episode!

Meredith has to follow her heart and her heart is telling her to choose Derek. She is in love with him. Personally, I would choose the man I KNEW I was in love with over the man I could POSSIBLY fall in love with someday, anyday. I'm probably in the minority, but I REALLY enjoyed the flashbacks. The one between Addy and Derek was so powerful and moving and just so poignant. It gave me a whole new outlook on the characters, especially Derek. Yes, we know that he found Addy in bed with his best friend, but for me, seeing it was much better than hearing about it. I wanted to see his reaction, I wanted to see her beg for him to stay. I loved it. I have to say, I totally love Meredith and Derek together and am praying that they reunite, but I am also looking forward to see Addy move on from Derek. I want to see her character go in a whole other direction. I want to learn more about her, not just who she was with Derek. I can't say I would mind a new love interest for her either. I love Addison and if she left, the show just wouldn't be the same.

I am not sure who mentioed it - but I think Callie was making Paella. It was definitely a Paella pan. I saw that and I thought i was a perfect subtle touch and nod to her heritage.
As for the others - I definintely loved Derek's speech at the end. I am going to have to re-watch to see Addison wearing Derek's jacket, I didn't catch that and it was puzzling me how she came across the panties. But it was a nice little touch that Derek wanted to keep them.

i've been trying to piece together what we saw in episode 301 + stuff "spoiler" said earlier int he comments and also what we've seen from the frey's video clip "how to save a life".
so, meredith has a choice, decides to flip a coin and dates both finn and mcdreamy:
- this would explain why she is making out with finn and about to make out with derek in the film clip (must be episode 2 or 3)
- doesn't really explain why when both der and finn rock up to the pub it looks like derek is super mad and leaves (maybe coz he sees how happy she looks with finn? oh nooo!!!!!!)
- (okay i'm reading into this too much) but she is wearing a red jumper int hat scene at the bar, and also when she is making out with finn, and derek is in some baggy jacket at the bar, which he also shows up to addison's door (somewhere) in
- so maybe at the bar she chooses finn, goes home with him, whist derek gets denied, goes back to addison, and finds her with mcsteamy???
I don't know... it's so much to think about!
and can i just say, i've never been a callie fan, but i really warmed to her in that episode, she was really good!
and also, the flashback at the merry go round - it sort of explains why ellis says (earlier in series 2 i think) about being scared or not liking merry go rounds to the chief....
oh, and i didn't get why bailey was emotional... very un-surgeon like i thought... but ogod acting!

I have to agree with Cherish, I don't want Derek and Addison to stay together, because I love him with Mer, but I do hope Addison stays on the show and gets back together with Mark. He is VERY nice to look at and really seems to love her. Someone earlier said they could see an Alex and Addie story line, but I hope Alex get back together with Izzie. He may have been a rodent before, but I loved how tenderly he cared for her when Denny died.

I really liked this episode it was soo good that i watched the encore ep the next night!! it was cool to see how everyone was before we really got to know them like Cristina being a big dork in front of Burke and now to see them together... really funny. the flashback that pissed me off was of George talking to Meredith and she wasn't even paying attention to him and he was still talking to her. to think back and have George say that he was in love with her and how he had her ear the whole night just makes me mad at him b/c he liked her soo much but was soo blind that she was not clearly into him... GEEZ GEORGE!!!
i also loved how they were sitting shiva for Izzie eventhough she's Catholic lol. If i were Meredith i would definately choose McDreamy b/c he said he loved her and Finn hasn't (well Meredith really hasn't given him too much of a chance). I wish Meredith and McDreamy could just see the chemistry b/t them if they haven't b/c it's amazing!! they belong together.

My biggest problem with the show was that Meredith did not have a big come back speech for Derek. She has had so many great speeches (choose me and the you do not get to call me a whore) and then he tells her I chose wrong and she says nothing. Why not say prove it or you are still married or something. Also, totally unrelated but does anyone else have a problem hearing what the actors are saying when music is being played in the background. There seems to be a lot of background noise too. (like people talking in the waiting rooms, and in the halls, etc.) I have a problem hearing some of the lines. Is it just me?

I loved this episode. I found the flashbacks to be significant to what each character was going through at specific times. I'm a fan of a Meredith and Derek coupling. Yeah, he screwed up by not being forthright about his marriage and what he left behind in NYC, but none of us are without baggage, right? I guess that while it was difficult to witness, I can even understand Derek making the choice to give it a try with Addison. I don't think he did it out of genuine love for her, but out of an obligation to try to make his marriage work. But in the end, he couldn't deny that he was in love with Meredith. He could admit it to himself and even to Addison in Joe's bar during the holidays, but probably saw no point in hurting Meredith further by making that same confession to her. He tried to let Meredith move on while making every effort in keeping his vows to Addison. Alas, Meredith is right - we can't help who we love. I have issues with Izzie's paralyzing grief over Denny. His death was terribly sad to be certain, but how much of a foundation was created in the short amount of time Izzie knew him? Her making the comparison to Yang/Burke's relationship isn't fair. The show does a great job showing us where these people have come from and the efforts they're making to move forward. I'm not an Addison hater, but the MerDer chemistry is simply to strong to ignore - the universe would spin curiously off it's axis if they don't end up together.
I have a serious addiction to this show. And yet, I'm not ashamed to admit that.

Ah to merder- the ball is in mers court- more power to her, here's a new twist- i like how derek tells her that the ball is in her court, it shows that derek is letting her have a choice of whether she stills wants derek or not, its a very good thing- as to this spoiler person= addy and MCSTEAMY get back together? really? wow. didn't see that coming. not. but its good cuz derek won't have to worry about her anymore!

Yayness! Seeing all these wonderfully thought out comments about the season 3 premiere and seeing that I am not alone in my psychotic obsession makes me very happy! I have to agree with the some peopl that the episode was very mellow for Greys, BUT it was still worth watching. Hands down, my favorite flashback was between Derek & Addison. You really saw that they used to have something special together and when Addie sits on the staircase and holds onto the bannister, loved it! Although, I adore Addison, I would like Meredith and Derek to get back together, as long as Addison has Mark or someone to be with. They just cannot take away Addison, her character adds so much to the show. Look back @ season 1, although it is the most briliant season 1 of any tv show ever, it is missing the Addie element. I also loved Meredith's childhood flashback. Overall, I am so excited about this season and I hate waiting a week for the next episode so I have to surf the net looking for ways to talk about Greys and waste the time until the next episode airs. Its been great sharing. I was thinking we should take a poll for fun . . . who is everyones favorite female character? (Choices: Meredith, Christina, Izzie, Addison, Bailey, & Callie)

In response to TeamAddison's poll, it is almost hard to pick just one favorite and that's what I love about this show so much. I like them all in one way or another. Meredith is my favorite, but Baily comes in a close second.And I do like Addison, but absolutly not with Derek.
As for the mellowness of the show, they had to have a filler. We all knew they were going to drag out Mer's choice or else there would not be anything to drag us back to the couch every Thursday in anticipation.
As other have said, it is nice to share my freakish addiction to this show with everyone else. It is such a weird obsession because I normally don't watch tv at all. Now I do every thurday night.

Yayness! Seeing all these wonderfully thought out comments about the season 3 premiere and seeing that I am not alone in my psychotic obsession makes me very happy! I have to agree with the some peopl that the episode was very mellow for Greys, BUT it was still worth watching. Hands down, my favorite flashback was between Derek & Addison. You really saw that they used to have something special together and when Addie sits on the staircase and holds onto the bannister, loved it! Although, I adore Addison, I would like Meredith and Derek to get back together, as long as Addison has Mark or someone to be with. They just cannot take away Addison, her character adds so much to the show. Look back @ season 1, although it is the most briliant season 1 of any tv show ever, it is missing the Addie element. I also loved Meredith's childhood flashback. Overall, I am so excited about this season and I hate waiting a week for the next episode so I have to surf the net looking for ways to talk about Greys and waste the time until the next episode airs. Its been great sharing. I was thinking we should take a poll for fun . . . who is everyones favorite female character? (Choices: Meredith, Christina, Izzie, Addison, Bailey, & Callie)

In response to TeamAddison's poll, it is almost hard to pick just one favorite and that's what I love about this show so much. I like them all in one way or another. Meredith is my favorite, but Baily comes in a close second.And I do like Addison, but absolutly not with Derek.
As for the mellowness of the show, they had to have a filler. We all knew they were going to drag out Mer's choice or else there would not be anything to drag us back to the couch every Thursday in anticipation.
As other have said, it is nice to share my freakish addiction to this show with everyone else. It is such a weird obsession because I normally don't watch tv at all. Now I do every thurday night.
