Round Table Discussion: Blues For Sister Someone

This week on the Round Table, a mommy-tracked Bailey is back on the warpath, Meredith is back on the dating scene, and Alex is more obnoxious than ever...

Does Dr. Bailey deserve to be monitored?

McCritic: Bailey is a success due to her intense focus -- but a baby can even placate a nazi. Isn't that the tagline all storks wear around their necks before dropping newborns into the world? Until Dr. Bailey can prove she has the physician fire back at full flame, it makes sense that the good chief won't let her carry on by herself.

Married-to-McDreamy: No. There is no reason for the Chief to be mommy-tracking this self-sufficient, sassy attending surgeon. She can clearly hold her own in the operating room, despite the new (little) man in her life.

Dr. Mom

iheartizzie: I love the Chief. I think he's a cool guy and does a great job running the show at Seattle Grace. He's got to lay off Miranda here, however. If memory serves, she was performing surgery while very pregnant, her unborn son kicking up a storm in the womb. That was okay, but she gets mommy-tracked now? Come on, Chief. How about cutting one of your top surgeons a little slack? On a side note, I can't believe I just said "womb." Gross.

What's the proper punishment for Alex?

iheartizzie: Izzie's Scrabble showdowns with Denny can get pretty heated. I think they need a full-time referee to sit there and monitor their witty wordplay / sexual innuendo. One whose mouth must be duct-taped shut.

McCritic: Being locked in a basement and forced to listen to Ashlee Simpson songs on repeat all night.

Married-to-McDreamy: I think the punishment dished out by Addison -- forcing him to continue assisting her in her surgeries -- is sufficient enough. The look on his pompous face when she told him that was pretty priceless. He needs to be faced with some gory gynecological procedures and perhaps then he'll realize that he should shut his mouth and start treating the ladies around there with a little more respect.

Birthing a horse: total turn-on or dating disaster?

Married-to-McDreamy: Total turn-on... for Meredith, that is. If it were me, I would have turned around and run out the door. Horses scare me. Finn Dandridge

McCritic: If there's no mounting or riding involved, as well as a severe lack of riding crops, I don't see why this would be a turn-on.

iheartizzie: While it was a bit unconventional, Meredith's first date with Finn could have been a lot worse than the emotional force of birthing a horse, of course.

Who has better odds of lasting until Season Three: Denny or Alex?

iheartizzie: i Scribed back in March that Alex was a strong candidate for departure from SGH. Now it's looking even more likely. Being a pompous jerk is one thing. Going out of your way to get Addison and the hospital sued is quite another.

Married-to-McDreamy: Denny, for sure. This guy is not going anywhere. Alex, on the other hand, may be pushed over that nice glass balcony outside of the Chief's office any day now.

McCritic: Denny stands at 4:1. The savvy Scrabbler may not even need a new heart soon -- his current one beats anew to the beauty, love and affection of Izzie. It's been restored, sans modern medicine, with contemporary cuteness. Alex, however, may go off at 7:5. He's blown his chance with the lovely doctor, blown his lid at every superior and seemingly blown his load... of possible story lines in which he can be used.

    You guys are funny.

I think we should all bow down and rock Izzie's world...she looked fabulous in those photos...i just wanted to rip all of her cloths off and get down and dirty...like a pig in the mud.

Who was the actress playing the overstressed divorce atty. woman? I know I've seen her before but she's not credited on any GA site. She's aged a bit since I last saw her.

  4. iheartizzie Says:

Jayne Brook is the actress who played the seizure-prone divorce attorney, even though she is not credited by any site. She also had a recurring role on ABC's Boston Legal recently.

  5. Julia Says:

Who played the violin solo on the episode "Blues for Sister Someone"? I would also like to know the title of the piece of music and the composer. Many thanks!

  6. Kevin Says:

I second Julia's request: Who played the violin solo on the episode "Blues for Sister Someone"? Seems like all the pop music tracks are documented, but I can't Google up anything about the violinist. Thanks...

  7. Elle Says:

I, too, have been looking for 45min for info on the violin solo. It's incredible! If anyone has any ideas, please share! Thanks a lot.

  8. Kevin Says:

I found this link, in which someone thinks the "violin" is really a viola, specifically Telemann Viola Concerto.

At least we have a clue now.

  9. Rebecca Says:

Unfortunately I don't think it is the Telemann Viola Concerto...you can try listening to it on something like classical.com. Same with the suggestion above regarding the 1st movement of JS Bach's Concerto in D Minor. I might be mistake about this second one though, since Bach had more than one Concerto in D Minor. Still, from what I remember of it, it doesn't sound like Bach.

Meanwhile I'm appealing to people to put up a clip that contains the music so it might be easier to identify which key, what period music, etc. Maybe all those ear training tests for piano and violin will finally pay off :]

Who was the composer of the violin solo on the episode "Blues for Sister Someone"?

  11. Kevin Packard Says:

OK, I'm really desperate to find more info about the violin recording. I just bought the episode from iTunes thinking I could rip just the violin solo, but there's too much dialog.

Someone out there knows who the violinist is, and might even know where I can get the recording...please post!

    Thanks.

  12. Susan Says:

Hi there! I think the same Violin song can be heard in the movie "Pride and Prejudice (new version)" (when Lizzy and Darcy are dancing). I watched the GA episode yesterday and I think I have recognised the melody. Check the Tracklist in the end credits! Best Wishes from Germany! S.

  13. Charlotte Says:

Guys, the piece is rondeau by Henry Purcell.

  14. Kevin Says:

I think the piece playing during the surgery scene is Partita No. 2 in D Minor for solo violin, part I Allemande, bwv 1004 by J.S. Bach
