Ellen Pompeo Graces TV Guide Cover

Ellen PompeoUnlike most women, Ellen Pompeo, who's featured on the cover of the newest TV Guide, prays for bad hair days.

Not for herself, of course, but for basket case Meredith Grey. After all, it seems the surgical intern played by the 36-year old Pompeo is often trying to wash one man or another out of her hair. When she's going through hard times (pretty much non-stop), Meredith's hair looks particularly rough.

"The worse she's doing, the messier it is. She sleeps with too many guys and never seems to learn any lessons. But I guess if she did, it would mean no show," said Pompeo, who rises at 5 a.m. to begin shooting Grey's Anatomy.

In real life, Ellen's morning rounds consist of feeding Valentino and Gigi, her brown and black miniature toy poodles, then coffee with her boyfriend, music producer Chris Ivery. After that, some yoga and, time permitting, some weight lifting. The rail-thin Pompeo has jackrabbit-like metabolism and relies on workouts to build muscle tone.

"I'm the type who has to build muscle to get any curves at all," she said.

At work, Ellen's trailer is stocked with multivitamin lemonade and vitamin water to power her through the day. Between scenes, if she isn't napping, she catches up on phone calls, e-mails and film scripts. If she's filming very late, Ivery comes by to hang out. Pompeo, who swears by her TiVo, says her current TV obsession is Bravo's Blow Out, but considering Ivery's line of work, there are American Idol evenings as well.

Such is the life of the eponymous Grey's Anatomy star. You'll have to grab the new edition of TV Guide to read the full story, but for now, you can check out the pictures from her photo shoot in our image gallery!

Grey’s Sings the Blues, Fans Don’t

Forlorn McDreamy?It's about time!

When Grey's Anatomy returns this Sunday at 10 Eastern after a four-week layoff, fans will be elated despite the episode's sad-sounding title, "Blues for Sister Someone." The title is the name of a Lenny Kravitz song, and music plays an even greater role than usual this week as Dr. Burke must treat a legendary jazz musician who happens to be his hero.

Addison, meanwhile, is introduced to a Catholic patient and mother of seven, whose husband refuses to use contraceptives. She's not the only Shepherd dealing with a dicey issue, as Derek treats a divorce attorney who asks him if Derek is in need of her services. Hmm. Dr. & Mrs. Dr. McDreamy appeared to have turned a corner, but does this mean things are still rocky between them?

That remains to be seen, as does how their marriage impacts Meredith, who is courted by Finn Dandridge (Chris O'Donnell), her dog's vet. While our sources haven't clarified anything specific, there's also a good chance that George's relationship with Calli continues to heat up, and that Denny will also be featured. Cracking jokes. Wooing Izzie. Waiting for a transplant, hanging on for dear life. You know, the usual. Regardless, it should be fun to watch! Much better than some silly recap episode.

Washington Among People’s Most Beautiful

We know he's a talented performer (and a brilliant surgeon), but Isaiah Washington is being recognized for more than his acting chops these days. The 42-year old Grey's Anatomy star was named one of the world's 50 Most Beautiful People by People Magazine in its annual feature.

Isaiah Washington

Washington has won acclaim for his portrayal of Dr. Preston Burke, a brilliant heart surgeon and consummate professional whose light-hearted side has also shone brightly in recent episodes. He is a key component of a talented, under-appreciated and diverse cast that has made Grey's Anatomy one of TV's most popular shows. Washington has nearly 50 television and TV credits to his name.

Actor Hopes To Live Another Season

In the parking lot of a restaurant near the home of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the actor was recently approached by one of his fans.Denny & Izzie

"My wife says you're dying, but you look healthy enough to me," the fan told Morgan.

"You can't die," the man's wife pleaded. "You're too cute to die!"

This conversation, hardly the first of its kind, elicited a good laugh from Morgan, who plays charming heart patient Denny Duquette on Grey's Anatomy. The character has emerged as a fan favorite as he woos the beautiful Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl, above) from his hospital bed while awaiting a transplant.

Not only are Morgan's services winning praise, but they are in high demand — sometimes for roles that require him to actually stand up and walk, no less. He has appeared twice on the Showtime series Weeds as Mary-Louise Parker's dead husband (via home videos and flashbacks), and plays an MIA dad on the WB's Supernatural, which airs at 9 p.m. Thursdays. Somewhat like Denny, his character is a man targeted for death… only by evil forces.

Grey’s Anatomy is Under Pressure

To come out with a new episode, that is. While last night's recap episode, "Under Pressure," contained some memorable moments, we'll be happier next Sunday when the show finally returns with something new. "Blues for Sister Someone" looks like it will be entertaining, according to the brief previews shown last night.

Joe the BartenderLast night's synopsis of Season Two was narrated by Joe the Bartender (played by Steven W. Bailey, right), the recurring character who owns the local watering hangout favored by the SGH gang. Apparently Meredith had the week off from her typical narrating duties.

For addicts, last night was a chance to relive the drama and Cristina's many snarky comments. For new fans, "Under Pressure" provided an opportunity to get caught up Denny Duquetteon everything.

From the infamous Code Black to the Shepherds' struggling marriage, and from Meredith's drunken one-night stand with George to Izzie's blossoming romance with Denny (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, left) and subsequent breakup with Alex, hopefully you're now up to date.

The fireworks resume in a mere 155 hours. Start the countdown! In the meantime, amuse yourself with our comprehensive image gallery, list of quotes and new Caption Contest!

Grey’s Anatomy Caption Contest, Part II

Our first-ever Caption Contest elicited 14 replies. Not the kind of participation we were hoping for, but not entirely bad for its debut. Congratulations go out to Lisa Woj for submitting the caption that was unanimously named the winner by our editorial board. Thanks to all who participated. You know the drill. Come up with something witty. Something deep. Something just plain goofy. Your call. Whatever you think would make a good caption, leave it as a comment. If we get more replies each week, we will soon start giving out actual prizes. Take that under consideration.

Three Stars To Present at Daytime Emmys

Three members of the Grey's Anatomy cast will be presenters during ABC's live broadcast of The Daytime Emmy Awards, reports the network.

Kate WalshThe 33rd annual gala will take place in Hollywood next Friday, April 28, from 8-11 Eastern Daylight Time. The trio of Grey's representatives will be Chandra Wilson (Dr. Bailey), James Pickens, Jr. (Dr. Webber) and Kate Walsh (Mrs. Dr. Shepherd, right). Other presenters include Food Network star Rachael Ray and supermodel Tyra Banks.

The award show, which recognizes outstanding achievement and performance in daytime television (perhaps as oxymoronic as it gets) during the 2005 calendar year, will open up with a performance by musician and former General Hospital star Rick Springfield. Whether or not his set list will include the hit "I Wish That I Had Dr. Shepherd's Girl" remains to be seen.

Katherine Heigl is Pregnant!

Katherine in BedIn a new movie, that is.

The Grey's Anatomy star is set to appear in Knocked Up, a Universal Pictures project and writer/director Judd Apatow's follow-up to his successful The 40-Year-Old Virgin. The film is scheduled for a 2007 release, and revolves around an unexpected pregnancy and other consequences of a one-night stand. Why anyone would leave Katherine after a one-night stand is perplexing, but that's just us.

Heigl, who stars as Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens on Grey's Anatomy, takes over the role vacated by Anne Hathaway, star of The Princess Diaries and Brokeback Mountain. Hathaway withdrew from Knocked Up due to creative differences. Seth Rogan, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, all of whom starred in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, have been cast along with the 27-year old Heigl.

Katherine's most recent film was The Ringer, where she starred alongside Johnny Knoxville, as he tried to fix the Special Olympics. What a jackass!
